Starting off with Maggie Stiefvater's The Scorpio Races. Not particularly proud of these drawings, but they were the oldest, I drew them over the course of December 2025.

I had my ambitions about it, predictably failed, bit it's something.

(The book? Screw romance, it has CARNIVOROUS MYTHOLOGICAL HORSES, how cool is that?)

i’ve no idea if this has been touched on by someone somewhere, but maggie stiefvater writes in an author’s note that “there was also an eerie shape-shifting element to the myth” of the scorpio races— water horses turning into men on land in order to sure maidens to their death behooved sirens, i guess.

this was obviously scrapped, but i think you see the original shape of the plot nonetheless. particularly with sean and his uncanny understanding of capall uisce magic, his eerie draw to the see. you see it in puck, too; they’re both wild, old things in young bodies. that part of the myth lives on.

so like. sean was definitely going to be a horse, right?
