the older i get the more i realize i love a lot of intensely personal literary fiction but often tire of the wink-wink ~autofiction~ flourishes that accompany it in modern writing. like i'd rather just read a story about ""a fictional character"" and then later read the author's bio which is near-identical to that of said fictional character. that way the two of us can go on mutually lying to ourselves about the power of the imagination without the author needing to, like, break the fourth wall or give the character the same name as them or any of that.

I can see death fast approaching Damien Karras once again so I would like to share a story: tonight-- on my way to play Avalon -- I was distracted by my phone while walking down the stairs. I remembered the ending of the exorcist n quickly put my phone away, thus preventing myself from falling down the stairs and sharing his fate.
