Or at least the ones showcased on Netflix, 90% of the films about a lesbian scenarios have women tangled up in each other, or kissing, and you're meant to believe they're naked. They have something about summer romance in the titles. Why? Seriously, why. Especially when they aren't comfortable depicting men the same way. They're implying that a large majority of romances between women are summer flings, that are heated, but brief. Sexual, and potentially deeply romantic but end, because it was all just a summer experiment. Where are the movies about girls who crush on coworkers and classmates secretly and hate themselves for it?? Where are the movies that show girls being brave and strong and wanting to stay by their best friends side, because they love them so deeply, and truly, and won't jeopardize by confessing to them. So they love them from a distance. Protect them. Want to save them, but can't. Or even love stories about women who meet and have a happy ending. Something born purely of love. Yes sex is involved but I feel like they focus primarily on just that. And for the men. Why not show them naked and embracing. Lips locked. I just hate it. We have a long way to go still, I guess before these things are completely normalized, and not over fetishized.
