MerMay has been a bit of a bust this year (life is hard) but I'm working hard to get back on a regular posting schedule. So! I am posting these dry photos of the morpho gown by Bryan Humphey from Dragon Con 2025. In these photos you can really see the modifications I made to the skirt, adding petticoats and an interlining to bring the shape and color even closer to the concept art. How it started vs. how it's going. TBT to the very first set of the very first photoshoot I did in my tail. Just me and my seaster Kaiya and a place called "Selfie Wyrld" at the mall on its last day before going out of business. Natural hair, wedding headpiece, top half of a ballgown. Four years later I got the chance to shoot with the same tail on a different swing, with Brett Stanley at MerMagic Con, in my Pose wig, Moonfire crown, and Bayou Mermaid top. #mermaid, #underwater photography

Revealing the final image form the @waterbearphotography shoot. These are the wings that took seven years to make. They were the first wing design I ever sketched, in the waiting area of The Little Gym that isn't there anymore. I spent the following years making small, simpler wings in different designs, some including the upper panels from "Titania." I learned a lot about wire engineering and paint techniques, perfecting my methods on wing after wing until I finally had the skills to execute my vision. I'm going to be real for a second: for the past week I've been feeling like I'm teetering on the edge of creative burnout. It's been a stressful few weeks at home, between minor illnesses, snow days, and rearranging furniture. The news, especially from Kansas, has been worse than usual, and the sources of hope that sustained me early in the month are harder and harder to find. Making content for billion dollar platforms in return for, essentially, exposure, is thankless and unfulfilling. My energy level, which has a low baseline due to ME/CFS, is pretty much depleted. I feel like a dying ember in a sea of darkness, struggling to keep the light from going out. Even though I had other content planned, it felt right to make and post this edit of Kimber's photo to express that feeling. I hope that someone sees this and realizes that even if they're feeling burned out, at least they're not feeling that way alone. I'm planning my next Twitch stream for Sunday, 3/1, at 11am Eastern. Please stop by and say hello, even if it's only for a minute or two. I think we can all use a little time to relax with friends.
