If your dialog feels flat, rewrite the scene pretending the characters cannot at any cost say exactly what they mean. No one says “I’m mad” but they can say it in 100 other ways.

Wrote a chapter but you dislike it? Rewrite it again from memory. That way you’re only remembering the main parts and can fill in extra details. My teacher who was a playwright literally writes every single script twice because of this.

Don’t overuse metaphors, or they lose their potency. Limit yourself.

I want to preface this by saying that I am not from Gaza. I am from Mexico. I know how messed up things are over there right now, so if you want to donate to only one thing, look for a good Gaza support group and give them money.

This is the first time I do this. It took me some time to evaluate my options, but I am out of them. I am in a serious financial problem, as the last few months I haven't been able to get more money/another job to compliment my current job (48 hours a week), and because that job consumes so much of my week -I only have most of Wednesday and Thursday as my 'free days'- I haven't been able to find another job or improve my situation. I've also used up the little money I had saved and I need to pay my credit card so as to not generate interest, otherwise I know it'll be an uphill battle in the next couple of months. I have currently stabilized my situation (regarding my rent, food, etc.), cutting any and all unnecessary purchases, and downgrading my groceries until things improve.

One of the reasons I was hesitant to do this is because I'm just a guy on the internet. I don't post art anymore, nor stories as I used to, so people just know me from my political posts/shares. Also, I think the majority of people are going through a horrid time (like I am), so... "who am I to ask for help?" At least that's what I kept asking myself before taking the decision of making this post. I don't know if anybody will read this, much less help me, but I wanted to try nonetheless.

Anyways, I'm asking for donations to help me pay my card. I am able to pay part of it with my next payment (on May 20th), but I'm left with around $352 USD left (around 6k pesos). If you can donate a couple of dollars, I would be eternally thankful. My goal is to cover the debt, but the next best thing would be to just pay as much of it to reduce the interests. I often wonder if this is why you so commonly see the sentiment that we are in an era of uniquely bad literature, or at least that the fact that most books don't have artistic aspirations and are not aiming to be anything other than mindless entertainment is new. In fact what's new is the idea that everything is worth preserving (and also the internet making it easier to preserve it). The dumb artistically unambitious trash books of the past have survived only sporadically, because people thought of them as literally disposable.
