the image of the flood is of the biblical sort. water is held to sacramental value across many cultures as a symbol of purification. the body passes through water and is made clean, birthed anew. a downpour of summer rain falls over the 9th arrondissement of paris, down the marble face of the palais garnier, its gaping maw fed with the bodies of the evening's patrons as they descend inward. the man ( who is not really a man ) stands off to the side of the entrance, the portrait of nonchalance. the rain makes a painting of the devil. his coat, long and black and already soaked, billows out behind him and turns to shadow like a flock of wild birds. he is smoking something unnecessary and expensive. the smog curls around his wrist, a snake uncoiling. there is no inherent need for these human indulgences, but it amuses him to have them all the same. his hands, cigarette grasped loosely in one, are clasped together in mock prayer, which also amuses him. in the end, it's all theatre.

❛ i wasn’t sure you’d come. ❜ lucifer says by way of greeting once he espies his intended company. the small grin across his mouth betrays his pleasure — the whisperings of prayer have had their desired result. ( michael is an ancient wound at the crux of his being. not even the water can wash away the rot of it, so he will pick at it, over and over, until both of them are sick of it. ) out of his pocket, he produces two tickets for the opera, waving them to @audaciiae as he strides forth to meet them. from the side, perhaps they appear no different from any of the guests. he finds that to be a funny thought.

eve turns liminal at the cusp of the witching hour. a little pocket of uncanny, allowing one to slip between the cracks of reality and dreams, when the world sleeps. with the streets outside lulled to slumber by the night's fog, the existence of the universe narrows down to the simple walls of @vei1s' living space. it is such liminality, the crossroad of evening and morning, that tends to beckon unvited guests. all things from that-other-world, the realm outside the normal that exists parallel to our own, begin to crawl out and slink into houses and towns and minds, making themselves at home. there are different types of hunger in different creatures: food-hunger, love-hunger, soul-hunger. the kitchen might be the heart of the house, and the heart divulges all of this and more. the devil ( only ever hungry for entertainment and enlightenment, it seems ) stands by the counter and dips a frail martini glass in a round dish, covering the rim in salt, before pouring dry vermouth and gin, topping it with an olive. it is courtesy of himself, this whim he procures for them both, because the kitchen hadn't even the basest of these products.

the streets around the cattedrale di santa maria del fiore are as vacant as the end of days. perhaps it is an omen of something worse to come. perhaps it is just early, with hints of first light peeking between the fog, spilling out into the sky like oil paint. dawn is a kingdom of its own, cold and distant even in its bright hopes. lucifer's domain, to which he beckons lilith, always. the cathedral casts shade over them as they walk, as surely as history does over their story — it never bothered him, but he thinks it might have bothered her.

only it is not his lilith that falls in stride with him now; not as she was. it is @riviyerah who walks in tandem with the devil; her arm does not find his, nor has he offered it. taking her to florence had been a decision wrought partially by the distaste he held for london's weather, and a great desire to irk michael.

he had brought her a gift, all the same, a velvet box in his hand. inside, neatly arranged, lays a diamond necklace with a moon charm. a similar one had once adorned lilith's neck. he is not a sentimental creature, but he can appreciate a good bit of irony. when he grins and motions for her to turn so he may clasp it, she does so, yet not without complaint.

the very existence of her is rebellion and he cannot fault her for it without betraying his own ideals. it vexes him, her complaints, and her resistance, and this flesh she wears. lucifer only scoffs, bemused by her exclamation. she has voiced similar sentiments before, yet she indulges him still, and he taunts her for it. ❛ love is for poets and artists, mortal things with hearts. we were not made for it. ❜ what sits between them is ancient and gnarled, and nothing like poetry. no, it is not love, he can concede, it is eternal in all the places love isn't.

"immortal beings that keep meeting up throughout different eras" trope.

a funny side note to the above: imagine you and your ex are both immortal and you run into each other every century or so. like how annoying is that.

on the topic of different eras, period dramas!! anywhere from b.ridgerton to p.enny d.readful vibes, i'm here for it. ancient times? regency & romance? victorian gothicism? anything goes! michael is on earth investigating demon interference, gets roped into sidequests with your muse. lucifer is there to tip the scales in his own favour and sway more souls, but also he likes to inspire knowledge and inventions and it boosts his ego for mortals to turn to him, so he keeps getting distracted.

heaven & hell politics. paradise lost style. and also, i see all your myth-based and deities blogs - and i know that amidst all the pantheons.. heaven & the angels probably have the worst reputation.. because of the entitlement of it all. but it could be so funny. it could be so messy. diplomacy b/n deities let's gooo.

any and all interactions with angels and demons. please.
