Imagine what a kick in the teeth it would've been for poor Zoey and Mira if the Golden Honmoon HAD killed Rumi.
Like, they dedicated actual years of their lives to achieving it, they sacrificed so much, they risked their very lives, all while having to live precarious double lives in the public eye. And how does the Honmoon repay them for all their hard work?
By taking away someone they both cared for and loved deeply simply because of what she was born as!
This is the thanks they get from the universe. After everything they had to endure just to protect it, because they were the only ones who could. This is the thanks Rumi gets; Rumi who worked her entire life and dedicated every waking second to the Honmoon.
It took her away from them. It took her away from them!
It's not fair! They gave the Honmoon everything! They gave, and gave, and gave, and the Honmoon just took and took! In the end, their "cosmic reward" was yet again something (someone) that the Honmoon took! The one thing in the entire world the two of them ever wanted!
If they could destroy the Honmoon, even tear into it a little bit, if it meant that there was even the slightest chance they could get Rumi back by utterly ripping the Honmoon to shreds themselves (however they manage to figure out how to do that), they'd do it in a heartbeat! The world be damned for it!
They'd do it in a heartbeat...that is, if it didn't feel like such an incredible insult to Rumi for them to even consider harming the Golden Honmoon. After she gave her very life for its existence. No. How could they do that to her? Even think about doing it? They couldn't. Rumi would be so, so disappointed in them. They have to respect the Honmoon.
It's what Rumi would want them to do.
