Narnia de la Grâce is a bit of miracle cat that was born this year as part of the Céleste breeding program. It is currently still being tested if he is a chimera or if this is a special colouration. 

It technically shouldn’t be possible to express two different solid non white colours on a male cat (male torties and calicos excluded) and on top of that showing a full colour (black) AND a diluted colour (blue) at the same time. YET HERE WE ARE. WHAT IS HAPPENING?! 

I have been following this little guy for a while now and am just as fascinated and interested as anybody else what genetic wonders he might reveal.

The gene that is responsible for Narnia’s blue eyes is the same gene I have already talked about in my Topaz post and which also may be a reason for his peculiar coat colour, since we’ve seen highly unusual patterns emerge there too. Instead of aiming for a fully new blue eyed breed, the Céleste breeding program however “only” aims to introduce blue eyes into the British breed and is not affiliated to the Topaz program.

Smith’s Litter Frog - Leptobrachium smithi

The Smith’s Litter Frog, Leptobrachium smithi (Megophryidae) is sometimes referred to as Vampire frogs because the iris are divided into two parts, the upper third is bright scarlet or yellow whereas the lower part is dark brown or black. Just look at the third picture, a couple of these frogs in amplexus.

This species is known from Thailand and the northern part of Peninsular Malaysia, as well as through Myanmar to Assam, India.

Son of Frondfur and Splashfang. Brother of Beavertail, Froglily, Bubblekit and Sedgekit.  Ottersplash has always been a quiet and serious tom.  Cats always joked about him being born an elder in a kit’s body because of how level headed and calm he always was.  Being so mature for his young age, he always felt distant from his littermates and often spent time on his own–clamming up and getting extremely uncomfortable when other cats tried to spend time with him.

When it came time for him to be apprenticed, he was assigned Raggedfur as a mentor.  The tom, though an extremely skilled had grown very bitter and angry by the death of his mate and kits, and the survival of his disfigured son, Twokit. This made him a very harsh and unforgiving mentor and he pushed Otterpaw extremely hard, often giving him panic attacks and making it difficult to sleep.  So Otterpaw, driven by his social anxiety around his clanmates and wanting to stay away from his mentor, spent as much time as far away from camp as he could. And on the border between StreamClan and Twolegplace, he met a young tom named Cowboy.

Though the young rogue annoyed and baffled him at first, he eventually grew very close to him and snuck out as much as he could to meet his new friend.  Cowboy’s easy-going personality and his lack of expectations and judgments drew him in and made him feel at ease–something he’d rarely felt among his clanmates.

However one day, they were found by a patrol, led by Raggedfur.  The fearsome warrior launched an attack on the rogue tom, which quickly broke out into a full out battle when other nearby cats heard and came to Cowboy’s defense.  During the fight, Otterpaw stood frozen, torn and terrified.  By the end, all he could see was his friend’s battered body, bleeding out on the ground.

Believing his friend to be dead, he drew inward on himself even more.  He blocked out the memory as best he could and threw himself into his training, desperate to prove himself.
