we are all pick mes. we have literally all been groomed to be pick mes, that is the essence of femininity. wearing makeup and restrictive clothing everyday, being terrified of aging, of getting too bulky from exercise, of being too loud or ‘masculine’, of having body hair. this is all done for attention + acceptance from individual males, and more often, from a patriarchal society. so many women struggle to understand that the reason why you feel more ‘confident’ doing those things is because you would be ostracised if you didnt and because that is what you have been bombarded with since before you could speak.

idk how to explain it but im never truly comfortable with the way people insinuate that all older folks are inherently bigoted. it always feels like it kind of hand-waves away personal responsibility like ohhhh grandpa cant help homophobic, hes old. well ive met plenty of older folks who are normal about gay people. i think grandpa could be better. i think we should hold grandpa to higher standards.

I think this goes for non sexual violence and abuse too. As someone whose main abuser was her mother, I used to get so hurt by women I otherwise liked in this community stanning abusive women because they think it's transgressive or whatever. Like no, actually those things are wrong categorically and you should consider the the implications you're giving when you dismiss or even celebrate the same actions that happened to me. Have some ideological consistency.
