In the book Ponyboy tells us that Dally “died violent and young and desperate, just like we all knew he'd die someday.” But I feel like if you actually listen to that line and recognize its importance and don’t ignore it - if I were to say yes, realistically even if Dally had survived that night he still would have gotten killed in a similar way sooner or later but not that much later, that he was on a trajectory that wouldn’t have changed if Johnny had lived or whatever happened with the gang, that even if it did the system would never stop coming after him - that constitutes an Unpopular Opinion.
I lowkey headcanon all of the Matt Dillon and Emilio Esteves characters are all related in some way like half siblings (I mean Mark and Tex are half siblings so) or cousins
But also doing that makes everything convoluted at the same time
