Mid-read check in for The Ballad of Falling Dragons by Sarah A. Parker πππ¬οΈ (Contains spoilers for When The Moon Hatched)
I would just like to start by saying I absolutely devoured When the Moon Hatched and flew through it, so I was ridiculously excited to pick this one up... and honestly, the first half did not disappoint. I could not put it down.
But now... we've hit that point.
It feels like Sarah A. Parker has laid all the groundwork for what's coming, and now we're just... waiting. (I am up to chapter 41 fyi) Yes, everyone's preparing, things are moving into place, but I'm kind of sat here like, can we speed this up a little? Because I'm starting to lose momentum, and I'm finding myself reaching for other books to cry and fill the gap of what this book is currently missing.
And can we talk about Raeve? I say this with all the love in the world... but can we stop beating around the bush with the whole trauma lake thing? I completely understand that she's been through unimaginable things, and trauma isn't something you just "get over." Everyone processes it differently. But I feel like we're getting the same cycle over and over again: she acknowledges it, thinks about the lake... and then shoves it straight back down again. It was impactful at first, but now it's starting to feel annoyingly repetitive.
And I mean this is no way to be hateful towards Sarah A. Parker, because she is a genius for being able to come up with these ideas and plots. But because of all I have mentioned above I've definitely been struggling to pick this book up as much as I want to, which is so disappointing because I was convinced this was going to be an easy five-star read (not saying it can't still, as I have a long way to go).
Oh and one final thing... if I found out I had a child that everyone else seemed to know about, and people STILL weren't telling me the full story at this point... I would be absolutely LIVID. Like, enough with the secrets already!
I'm really hoping the second half picks up because I know Sarah A. Parker can absolutely deliver an incredible ending. Please tell me I'm not the only one feeling this way... but no spoilers!
