padmes queen voice being artificially lowered in post to sound like the origin for Vader's low pitch and accent is crazy it makes me crazy that he was in that suit learning how to be a person again in a medical torture device & was like i guess i will mimic my dead wife's intonation she used in her stint as child queen to legitimise myself as the emperor's freaky cyborg wizard sonwife
i keep thinking about it because im reading the prequel novelisations and im still on phantom menace reading the inner thoughts of this fucking 9 year old with a sweet crush on an older girl the way many average 9 year olds do and its making me SAD because anakin's listening to her and sabe doing the Queen Voice and whether its a conscious choice or not that poor kid has like 15 years before it's back to slavery and no more im a person & my name is anakin you have to be his monster you have to wield authority you have fucked up not only your entire life but an entire religious order too and you have to learn fast how to be an entirely new creature to anything you have been before. its fucking unbearable if i think about it too long. padme hasnt even been gone that long and the small amount of free will vader has left goes to imitating the way Queen Amidala spoke because that's the first thing vader can think of when creating a new persona that sounds imposing and powerful. and then i look back at the page and its just 9 year old anakin innocently watching padme & the handmaidens doing the Queen Voice. should we all kill ourselves
in a galaxy far, far away

Thinking about Jentry Chau randomly, and spoilers for the show, but what age are we as the audience meant to understand Kit as? He's over 100 years old, but is he in the teenage stage of maturity for his species, or is he essentially an adult? The show implies he's had romantic relationships in the past with adults, and he would have no problem presenting himself as an adult to feed on others. He presents as a teenager in the show, but mainly to get close to Jentry. Kit can't really be either a teen or an adult. An adult praying on a teenager is bad don't get me wrong, but a teenager getting in relationships with adults for survival is also bad. At the end of the day, as an ageless creature who has a limited grasp on how to be a human being, does it even really matter?
The only other instance I can think of, of something like this happening (especially in media aimed at children) is in Lady and the Tramp 2: Scamp's Adventure where there was a love triangle between Scamp (clearly a child), Angel (might be a child), and Buster (clearly an adult). Even as a kid it made me kinda uncomfortable because either way, Angel is a child in a relationship with an adult, or an adult falling in love with a child.
Has this happened in anything else? Nebulous age gap romances in children's media? I can't think of anything else tbh.

I was re-watching Maul Shadow Lord last night with my brother and honestly, Scorn and Icarus's deaths just made me feel so bitter. The longer I sit with it, the more it upsets me. Why can none of the nightbrothers be fully fleshed characters? Other than Maul and maybe Savage to a lesser degree. I know they're fictional aliens, but it really feels like none of them are allowed to be people. Their only purpose is to look cool, fight good, and die. It feels that way both in the actual Star Wars universe, as well as in our real world as viewers.
Their lack of personhood does make sense due to their subservience to the nightsisters, but the narrative never really seems interested in diving into the full implications of that.
Maul in The Phantom Menace was created with the only purpose of looking cool, fighting good, and dying. But they brought him back and wrote him to be one of the most interesting characters in Star Wars. If Maul is a deeply complex, interesting person, then retroactively they all are.
In the Savage centric episodes, the Jedi and the Galaxy at large treat him like a mindless beast or a humanoid animal. But only a few episodes ago, we met Savage when he was of sound mind and a good person. Are we meant to forget his kindness and his protectiveness of his brother Feral? He was made into something else against his will, and are we as an audience meant to cheer on his demise?
Maybe it's like how the Orcs used to be in DND, and they're just meant to be a kind of evil tribal warrior race and we as the audience are not meant to think any deeper about it. But then Maul himself counters this! He's very intelligent and talented and well spoken. In a different life he could have done great things! I just don't understand why no one but Maul seems to be allowed to be anything.

it's a shame that the trope of a character who looks 12 but is actually 300 years old is usually just used for ick fanservice because on a paper i think the psychology of a person stuck in permanent childhood has a lot of interesting story potential. unfortunately i would not trust a fandom with that character with a 100ft pole.
Do you sometimes think about how truly, truly awful the Nightbrothers are treated in SW canon? Like they’re making such an effort to show diversity also underneath species and give us little insights that it’s not black and white with any of them… And then you have the Nightbrothers. Who are truly just there to die in a contest of who goes out the most tragic.
And then I remember that it’s a fictional alien species and there’s no reason for me to care about it… but instead it’s actually the opposite and now I’m also angry, because it does not need to be like that. Somehow it’s just a decision done again and again by the directors and writers to treat them LIKE THAT.
Yes, this is about me still being upset about Scorn and Icarus who were so loyal to Maul without us ever knowing why. But it’s also about Feral who was not even mentioned by Savage again because the writers did not care. This is about Ventress killing off half a village in a contest where you really could just have send them away to dwell in shame for losing. This is about Viscus watching his clan die and thinking it needs to be this way because it was taught to him. This is about the Jedi Fallen Order game where they are treated like animals for defending their home and being used by Malicos and even Merrin.
This is about half-assing Maul’s relationship with any of them because you acknowledge it enough for him seeking out others of his kind but then doing nothing with that.

i'm not really happy with this one but whateverrrrrrrrr
“Io non piangea, sì dentro impetrai.”

"I wept not, I within so turned to stone."
Inferno, Canto XXXIII - Dante Alighieri
This piece is a tribute to Maul’s arc and his tragic legacy, heavily inspired by Jean-Baptiste Carpeaux’s “Ugolino and His Sons”. The way Filoni and the writers handled Maul’s story actually disintegrated my soul. He is a man who turned to stone to survive his own life, unwittingly crushing his own innocence and dragging his brothers into the abyss with him. I am officially unwell.
May the Fourth be with you.
