This piece is a tribute to Maul’s arc and his tragic legacy, heavily inspired by Jean-Baptiste Carpeaux’s “Ugolino and His Sons”. The way Filoni and the writers handled Maul’s story actually disintegrated my soul. He is a man who turned to stone to survive his own life, unwittingly crushing his own innocence and dragging his brothers into the abyss with him. I am officially unwell.

Savage knew he was on the back foot of this verbal sparring match. “No but-”

“He was making me more powerful, just as I do you,” Maul said.

“By shredding your back to pieces?” Savage growled.

“All pain is a lesson. It made me stronger.” Maul said. “That’s how the Sith operate. If you can’t accept that then maybe you shouldn’t be one.”

“You were a child,” Savage shot back. “What business did you have with the Sith?”
