Your boyfriend Doyoung was lounging on the sofa, scrolling through Instagram on his phone. Even with an oversized t-shirt and shorts on, he looked ethereal as always. You stared and smiled at him from the kitchen table. His messy hair was captivating.Â
You leaned on the table and placed your head in your hand to continue admiring your boyfriend. As you touched your forehead, you found it to be surprisingly hot.Â
âHey Doyoung?â you said softly. Doyoung looked up from his phone. âI think I have a fever.â
Doyoung walked over to where you were standing and wrapped his arms around your waist to pull you in closer. He held your cheeks gently and placed his forehead on yours. His eyes were closed. Doyoung then tilted his head upwards and gave you a gentle kiss.Â
You were speechless and pulled back with wide eyes.Â
"Yeah, youâre burning up for sure,â Doyoung said with a smirk.Â
[8:12 pm] Yutaâs picks for movie nights were never your style, and tonight was no different. You peeked over at Yuta to see if he noticed lack of interest. His eyes were fixed on the screen.Â
You pulled out your phone and started to look through your texts. You didnât have any new messages, but you were bored, so you scrolled through a chat with your friend.Â
An explosion on screen caused you to pull back in surprise.Â
âWoah, babe, did you see that?âÂ
Yuta turned to you, hoping to elicit a reaction. He looked down at your hands and noticed your phone. Yuta pulled you in close to him so he could see what you were looking at.Â
âHey, thatâs us when were just started dating,â he said while caressing your arms. You melted at his gentle touch.Â
The photo he saw was one you had sent your friend when you had just started dating Yuta. The message attached was i think he might be the one.
You looked up at Yuta and smiled fondly, proud of just how right you were back then.Â
[7:27am] Jungwoo carried his groggy body across the living room and took a seat at the kitchen island of your apartment. He crossed his arms and placed his head on them. He was ready to take a nap, but Jungwoo was captivated by your back as you cooked pancakes on the stove. He loved the way you looked when you wore his t-shirts.Â
You noticed that Jungwoo had finally woken up, so you turned around and smiled fondly at him.
âGood morning, Jungwoo. What do you want for breakfast?â
[2:04 am] Taeyong turned his head to stare at your sleeping figure. He was in awe of your delicate features. You looked so peaceful and calm at night, despite having the most stressful day. Taeyong gently stroked your cheek and began to smile.
âI hope youâre dreaming of me,â he whispered.
Taeyong kissed your forehead and continued to admire your beauty as he drifted off to sleep.Â

You were at the cafe and there was no work for you to do. The dreamies were handling everything on their own, so there was no use for you at the cafe. Bored, you just stared at the boys as they made orders. You wanted to help out, but you knew that disrupting them could mess up their whole flow and cost them a lot of money. Chenle reminded you of that many, many times before.Â
The only one that didnât seem busy was Jisung. He was lounging around, staring at the boys mindlessly, just like you. Jisung caught your eye. It wasnât usual that you saw him behind the counter. He almost always stayed in the back room, âkeeping inventoryâ. You were suspicious of him. There was no way the cafe had so much stuff that Jisung had to be in the back room all the time. You could tell by the way that Jisung stuttered that he was hiding something back there. Then again, Jisung always stuttered when he talked to you.
Jisung didnât stay in your vision for long. After a few minutes, he slipped back into the back room. Your curiosity was getting the best of you. You knew that Jisung would be upset if you sneaked in, but you just had to know what was back there. You looked around at the other dreamies. They were all preoccupied, making it the perfect opportunity for you to sneak into the back. You took your chance and creeped into the room.
You were not prepared for what you saw. All of the walls were covered in rows of shelves, each lined with countless bottles. The bottles contained all sorts of liquids, some of which were neon colors. At the center of the room, there was a table set up with beakers and tubes. You were in awe of what looked like a lab behind the cafe. You were going to sneak back out, but Jisung head popped up from behind the table.Â
ây/n! What are, uh, you doing here?â Jisung stuttered with a nervous smile. The boy had two bottles with pink liquid in his hands. He tried to hide them behind his back, but had already noticed them.
âJisung? What is this place? What is all this stuff?â you asked, reaching out to grab a bottle.
âNo!â Jisung shouted, causing you to flinch. âDonât touch anything in here, okay?â He placed the bottles down on the table and held his forehead. âWhat am I going to do?â he muttered to himself.
âFirst, youâre going to explain to me what this all is.â
âOkay, so, uh, you know how people love coming to our cafe,â Jisung said while playing with his fingers. âItâs because of this stuff.â
âYouâre drugging people?â
âNo! No! Thatâs not it! Itâs just that, uh, youâre really not going to believe me.â
âTry me,â you replied, putting your hands on your hips.
âIâm a wizard, so I make potions. We put love potions in the cafe food so that people will love our cafe.â Jisung noticed your confused face. âIf you donât believe me you can try for yourself.â
You walked over to where Jisung was standing. He quickly grabbed another bottle from under the table and placed it on the table.
âExperience the potion yourself. When itâs effects wear off, Iâll tell you exactly what happened to you without you even telling me anything.âÂ
You grabbed the potion from the table and drank it. Before you could place the bottle back down, you were transported to another world. You were in a forest and it was snowing. There were 7 little boys running around, screaming in joy as they played a game of tag. Your heart warmed at the precious sight of the dreamies when they were young. You were about to take a step closer, but everything began to fade. You found yourself back in the room with Jisung.Â
âYou saw your childhood, right? The most precious memory that youâve ever experienced.â Jisung said. You nodded, not having the heart to say that you saw otherwise.
âItâs an original potion that I made. It took months to develop perfectly,â Jisung said as he returned the bottle to itâs original place.Â
Jisung worked on the potion for months, but it seemed like he only tested it on himself. The potion wasnât the userâs most precious memory, it was Jisungâs. Even though you didnât see the right image, you were convinced Jisung was telling the truth about magic. Â
âWhat about the other guys?â
âSo Mark and Jaemin, theyâre normal people. Kind of like you, but more magically aware. Haechan, he hasnât gained his powers yet. And then Jeno, heâs a water spirit.â
âMakes sense,â you replied.Â
âAnd then Chenle, well, uh,â Jisung began to stutter again. âHeâs like super rich and his family is like a super big deal, so heâs not really allowed to tell his powers. Not even to me,â he said, pretending to be disappointed.
âOf course he wouldnât tell you! Youâd blabber it all out!â you joked.
âI donât blabber any secrets!â Jisung said, trying to defend himself. âAnd Renjun trusted me with his vision about you so ha!â
âRenjun had a vision about me?â you said raising your eyebrow.
âShoot,â Jisung said, slapping his forehead. âIâll just let him explain it.â
Jisung walked back into the front of the cafe and you followed behind him. Renjun was standing behind the counter with the other boys, trying to put up a poster on the wall.
âSo Renjun, whatâs this about a vision you had?â you asked with your arms crossed.
âDude, I told you Jisung wouldnât be able to keep a secret,â Jeno said, laughing. Renjun shook his head in disappointment before looking at you.Â
ây/n, do you believe in magic?â Renjun asked.
âYou can skip the explanation. I saw everything Jisung had in the back.â
âOkay, so Iâm an oracle, so I can see into the future. And I saw your future, and itâs not looking too good. Youâre probably going to get attacked,â Renjun said casually, as if it were nothing. Â
âBefore you get worried y/n, itâs really no big deal. Renjunâs never had an accurate vision before. Itâs not like this oneâs going to come true,â Chenle said.
âAnd he was on the floor of a frat house when it came to him, so I wouldnât worry too much,â Mark added. Renjun slapped Mark on the arm for adding that detail.
âOh wow, for a second I thought I was going to be special,â you said sarcastically, pretending to be disappointed.
âDonât worry y/n, Iâll protect you,â Jisung said, joining in on your sarcasm. He threw his arm around your shoulder, rubbed your head, and said, âyouâre all safe now y/n.â
The boys laughed and then went back to work. Jisung walked back into the back room, and you followed him, since you had nothing better to do.Â
âHey Jisung, why donât you give me so potions lessons?â you said. You found a stool in the corner of the room and pulled it up to the table. âIt would be good practice for you, too.â
âWho said I needed practice?â Jisung replied. You turned around and got up from the stool, ready to walk out the door. âHey, wait! Iâll do it!â
You sat back down on the stool and watched Jisung. He started pulling out liquids and dried plants from under the table. There were far too many thing coming out from under the small table, but you figured that magical storage was very efficient.
âThe first lesson is an antidote potion,â Jisung said. He placed in front of you various dried plants, seeds, and a dark green liquid.
âCanât we start with the love potion,â you complained.
âIf youâre trying to seduce someone, you wonât be learning it here,â Jisung said with a smile. âAnd the antidote potion is the best place to start anyways. If you mess up any other potion, it could kill you. Itâs always important to know how to make an antidote.â Jisung handed you a mortar and pestle.
âI have to grind this by hand?â you groaned.
âUnless you have magical abilities, youâd better get used to grinding everything in there. Any questions so far?â
âWhat is all this stuff?â you asked as you grinded all the dry ingredients.
âActually, Iâm not really sure. I kind of just know the stuff I need. I use my intuition.â
âOh thatâs just great,â you said, rolling your eyes.
âItâs not like it matters anyways. Youâre doing a great job,â Jisung said with a smile. âNow itâs time to add the blue liquid. Donât ask me what it is, I wasnât paying attention when I learned it.â
You poured the blue liquid in and began to mix it.Â
âSo what else do you do Jisung? Thereâs more to being a wizard than just potions, right?â
âWell, potions are my specialty. I can make them back here when Iâm alone. Thereâs nobody yelling at me or telling me to hurry up when I make potions, so itâs pretty therapeutic. I can do spells too, but those take a lot of patience to learn, especially if you try to do them mentally. Spells are so much more pressure.â
âOh,â you said, looking down at what you had made. âIâm sorry I disturbed your private time.âÂ
âNah, itâs no big deal. I like you y/n. I mean, uh, I like being around you.â Jisung quickly went under the desk to get a bottle for you potion, but he was really just trying to avoid eye contact with you. His face was burning up. After Jisung got up, he poured your potion into a bottle and sealed it. He grabbed a permanent marker and wrote on the bottle.
ây/nâs antidote potion,â Jisung said with a smile. âIâll be sure to make good use out of this.â
âI think the cafe is closing up right now,â you told Jisung. The commotion you could hear between Renjun and Haechan was an obvious sign that it was time for you to leave.Â
âWell then, Iâll see you tomorrow y/n,â Jisung replied, waving you off as you walked towards the door. âOr do you prefer apprentice?âÂ
âIâd go by any name if it meant I could spend time with you,â you said. You were shocked at your own words. You had no idea where that came from. You hurried out before Jisung could question you on your reply.
You spent all your shifts with Jisung. Every day, Jisung had a new set of herbs for you to grind and bottle. You were worried the Chenle might be upset that you werenât working, but he just smiled and pushed you into the back with Jisung.
âSo what are we learning today, Jisung?â you asked as you pulled up the stool.
âLove potions,â Jisung said with a smile.
âYouâre finally teaching me how you drug the people in the cafe,â you said teasingly.
âI donât drug people, y/n. Itâs magic. Thereâs a difference,â Jisung explained. âAnd were just doing a basic love potion today. Nothing complicated like falling in love with a building.âÂ
You chucked at Jisungâs response.
âHey, you have no idea how hard that was for me! You try making people love the cafe when the employees are moody magical beings!â Jisung complained as he grabbed the ingredients for the love potions. He placed an assortment of dried herbs and seeds on the table.
âSo whatâs the plan here?â you asked.
âYou can just take whatever you like. Love potions are based on personal preference. Thereâs really no wrong answer,â Jisung said as he handed you the mortar and pestle. âOh wait! I forgot the most important ingredient!â
You watched as Jisung pulled out a bottle with a red liquid inside.
âYou can taste it, itâs nothing weird, I promise,â Jisung said as he handed the bottle over to you.
You dipped your finger inside and tasted the mysterious liquid.
âThis is tomato juice!â you said with wide eyes. âYour secret ingredient is tomato juice?â
âItâs for the aesthetics. It gives the potion a nice color. And my secret ingredient isnât tomato juice. I use hot sauce. Tomato juice is a beginnerâs ingredient.â
âHot sauce is not aesthetic Jisung,â you said with a laugh.
âItâs more aesthetic than blood.â Jisung noticed the confused look on your face. âItâs an old practice,â he explained.
You spent the rest of your shift putting together a love potion. Jisung had been right about how difficult it was. Selecting your own ingredients took careful deliberation. You wanted your first love potion to be perfect. After a while, you had put together your first love potion.
âWow, that looks really good, y/n,â Jisung said with admiration. âCan I try it? You can try mine too.â
âWhatâs going to happen when we taste it?â you asked.Â
âThese are pretty weak potions anyways. Weâre probably just going to see our crush. Itâll be a basic sensation. Itâll be something you already know.âÂ
âLetâs do it then,â you said.Â
You and Jisung exchanged bottles and took a sip from the potions. You closed your eyes and waited for the potion to settle in. When you opened your eyes again, you were in the same place.
âNothing happened, Jisung. Did we make them wrong or what?â you asked.
âNo y/n. We made them perfectly,â Jisung replied.Â
You watched as Jisung crinkled up his nose at what he had just said. You took a second to process what he meant.Â
âSo that means we, uh,â you started to say. You couldnât verbalize the next part.Â
âYep,â Jisung said while looking down. Despite liking each other, you and Jisung were highly embarassed by the situation.
âSo, um, uh,â you stuttered, trying to find something to say to Jisung.
âDo you want to date me?â Jisung babbled. Â
âYes.â You kept your hands busy with all the ingredients on the table. You still felt too awkward to make eye contact with Jisung. He felt the same way about you.Â
âWe should head out now,â Jisung said. You followed him out towards the front of the cafe.
The other boys immediately noticed that Jisung was blushing when you two walked out. Neither you nor Jisung were making eye contact with any of them.
âWhatâs up with you two? Did you two make out in the back or what?â Jaemin said with a smirk.
âNo way, Jisungâs too much of a wimp to do that,â Mark replied.
âThe probably kissed by accident or something,â Jeno said.
âHow do you accidentally kiss someone?â Chenle asked.
âItâs a classic trick Chenle. y/n probably fell on Jisung and-â Renjun started.
âThatâs not what happened!â Everyone was shocked by Jisungâs sudden confidence, even Jisung himself. âWeâre, uh, dating each other now. Thatâs all,â Jisung said in a quiet voice.
The dreamies erupted in screams. Haechan started slapping Jisung on the back.
âLook at you, all grown up,â Haechan said with awe. âBe careful back there. The two of you alone in that dark room, it could get wild, Jisung.â
After dating for a while, the teasing subdued from the dreamies. There was always the occasional joke about your potions mixing, but it was expected from the boys. You and Jisung became much more comfortable with one another.
The day of the cafe event had finally rolled around. You didnât pay much attention to it after Renjun had mentioned it to you, but apparently it was a very big deal to the dreamies. They would be in the presence of a lot more magic than they were used to, so they spending a lot of extra time at the cafe. You tagged along, hoping to help them in any way possible. It had been a long time since you actually contributed to the cafe and not just sit in the back with your boyfriend.
âHey y/n, can you help me and Jisung in the back right now?â Haechan said.
You followed Haechan into the back room. He locked the door behind you, which was odd. Jisung never did that before. Before you could ask him why he did that, Haechan lunged towards you. He pinned you to the ground and you started to scream.
âDonât scream y/n, or youâll end up like your boyfriend over there,â Haechan said with a menacing grin. Haechan turned your head to the side so you could see Jisung. He was sitting in the corner tied up with rope. His mouth was covered with tape.
âWhat are you doing?â you cried.
âGood question, y/n. Youâre just so smart, arenât you?â Haechan said as he tied up your arms. âYou skip lectures so you can go take little potion lessons from your boyfriend. How cute.â
âThis is about the lectures? Oh my gosh Haechan, I promise I-â Haechan placed his hand over your mouth.
âDonât make me tape that beautiful mouth up.â Haechan got to work on tying up your feet. âAnd itâs something much more different, dear. You see with this high magical energy in the air, Iâm at an urge to awaken my powers.â
Haechan stood up and grabbed a knife from the table.
âAnd there happens to be one potion thatâll do the trick. Your precious boyfriend already started making it. Now I just need the final ingredient,â Haechan said as he leaned over you. âYour blood.â
Haechan pulled the blade through your arms. Blood started to leak out onto your shirt, but you had already passed out. Haechan collected the blood and placed it into the bottle with the other ingredients. He started to take a sip when the bottle shattered. Haechan was enraged. He turned around to see Jisung, who had broken free.Â
âYou think you can stop me?â Haechan screamed.
Haechan tried to take a step forward, but he had become paralyzed. Jisung was mumbling a spell to himself. Even though he was focusing all his energy on restraining Haechan, Jisung could only think of you. He hurried over to the shelves and grabbed the first healing potion he could find. He opened the bottle and poured the whole thing down your throat.Â
âJisung!â was the first thing you said when you woke up. Jisung was too busy mumbling spells to reply to you. You looked over at the bottle Jisung had given you. It was the first potion you had made. You picked up the bottle and at the same time, Jisung stopped mumbling and pulled you into a hug. You felt warm in his embrace, but you became worried.
âWhat about Haechan?â you asked as you pulled away from the hug.
âHeâs in paralysis. His body is transforming right now, so heâs especially dangerous. I put a spell on him so he wonât hurt us right now.â
You had no words for how grateful you were. You pulled him into a hug again.
ây/n, Iâm really sorry I couldnât protect you. You got hurt because of me. I should have never even started making that-â
You put your finger over his lips. You didnât want the moment to be ruined. There would be a lot of explaining and apologizing to be done, but at that moment you just wanted to be in the arms of your boyfriend.Â
You were heading out to the cafe after class. Renjun and Haechan were far up ahead of you, chasing behind Jisung to tease him. Mark, Jaemin, and Jeno laughed at the poor boyâs torment and ran along to catch up. You and Chenle were left alone. The two of you didnât really hang out alone together. The only times when you were this close to Chenle was when you hung out Jisung. Even then, you were never alone with Chenle for more than a minute.
âYou know, uh, we never really spend time together,â Chenle said with a nervous laugh.
âWell, you are my boss,â you joked.
Chenle felt hurt at your reply. He wanted you to think of him as a friend, not as the guy who ordered you around and didnât even pay you.Â
âYou can work with me today,â Chenle offered.
âI was actually hoping to assemble some cakes with Mark today, but that sounds great too,â you replied.Â
You had no idea how much your words stung Chenle. He had a major crush on you for months. Hearing that he wasnât even in the friendzone made him upset. Chenle was determined to make you like him, even a little bit.Â
At the cafe, you stood behind Chenle as he worked. You watched him lift boxes and give order to the other boys. You didnât want to admit it, but Chenle was quite attractive when he was in a position of power. His confidence made you swoon. In reality, Chenle was quite anxious about his crush staring at him. The two of you talked a little, but you were both nervous about impressing each other.Â
After the last customer walked about, Chenle decided to make a move on you.
âHey, y/n, do you want to come over to my place tonight?â Chenle knew the question was completely random, but he didnât know if he would ever get another opportunity to ask you out.Â
You were quite shocked at his question, wondering if he could read your mind. You had just been thinking about how you wanted to spend more time with him.Â
Chenle assumed your silence was a no and said, âThatâs fine. Iâll see you again tomorrow, y/n.â His face dropped in disappointment.Â
âNo!â you said, grabbing his shoulder. You quickly let go after you realized what you had done. âI mean, Iâd love to spend more time with you. Tonight sounds nice.âÂ
âGreat!â Chenle held on to your hand softly and led you out the cafe doors. Before he stepped out, he turned around and said, âguys, you can close up without me.â
Chenleâs house was huge, to say the least. Everything looked like it was out of a storybook. There was beautiful mahogany furniture that lined the hallways, which seemed like they went on forever. The high ceilings and walls were embellished with gold fixtures. You were sure that you were in a palace.
Chenle noticed the wonder on your face as you walked through the house and smiled to himself. He was overjoyed to make you impressed.
âPretty nice, right?â he asked.
âThis place is more than nice,â you said with wide eyes. âItâs insane!â
Chenle laughed at your reply. He didnât care much for the way the house looked. Chenle was never interested in such superficial things, but seeing you this happy made him feel so lucky.
âCome on, letâs go to my room,â he said, pulling you up the stairs.
Chenleâs room was much more modestly decorated compared to the rest of the house. Despite all the luxury of his home, Chenle had mastered the art of the broke, messy college student look. You sat on his bed and looked around the room. Chenle grabbed a bottle from under his desk and handed it to you.
âYou should try this, itâs really good.â You accepted the bottle and started to drink it. âIâll go get some snacks for us,â Chenle said, walking out his room.
The drink Chenle gave you tasted like orange soda, but was a bit more bitter. You werenât sure if it was your lack of sleep or the drink, but you began to feel sleepy. You were too tired to sit up, so you laid down on Chenleâs bed. You tried fighting your sleep, but it was just too strong.Â
In your dreams, you saw yourself as a child. You watched your first day of school, your graduations, and your birthday parties. These memories made you feel cheerful and warm. The memories of your past slowly started to fade away. You body felt cold and empty. Darkness surrounded you. You felt lost, until a light grew around you. You saw yourself again, but this time it wasnât a memory. You watched yourself on the floor, covered in blood. You were crying for help, but nobody was there to save you. Your body jolted and you woke up.
ây/n is everything okay?â Chenle asked. He rushed to your side and began to stroke the side of your face.
âI was just dreaming and I saw something really weird,â you said, sitting up on the bed. âI kind of saw myself being attacked.â
âAh shoot.â Chenle placed his hand on his forehead and shook his head. âI knew this would have never worked.â
âWhat are you talking about?â
âCome on y/n.â Chenle gestured with his hand for you to follow him.
Chenle took you into the library of his home. The room was huge and you were sure there were thousands of books in it. You had never seen anything like it before. Chenle pulled out a book from the shelf and handed it to you.
âRead the cover.â
ââSpells of the Mind, a Complete Encyclopedia.â What is this?â you asked.Â
âMagic books. The place is full of them. You can read all the titles and youâll see.â
You listened to Chenle and checked out the other books on the shelves. You found âThe Guidebook to Forest Spirits: Volume 1â, âThe History of Warlocksâ, and âDried Grass Potionsâ. Every book you picked up had a strange name and you simply could not understand it all.
âWhat does this mean Chenle?â you asked, as you poked around the bookshelf.
âIâm not a normal person, y/n. My family has magical abilities,â Chenle started to explain.
âYeah right,â you replied, rolling your eyes.
âDo you have a better explanation for all these books then?â Chenle snapped. You were silent and let him continue.
âLike I was saying, my family has magic abilities so do some of the guys. You see, Jisungâs actually a wizard. He made a love potion and put it in the cafeâs food. Thatâs why we get so many customers. And Jeno, heâs a water spirit. Then thereâs Haechan. He hasnât really gotten his powers yet, but they should come in any day now.â
âWhat about Jaemin? Is he some kind of coffee spirit?â you asked.
âNah, Jaeminâs just a regular human. Heâs just a little weird. Markâs human too.â
You laughed and said, âGo figure. A group filled with magical beings and Jaeminâs the normal person.â Chenle laughed long with you. âWhat about Renjun?â
âAh, Renjun,â Chenle became quiet. âRenjunâs kind of an oracle. He sees into the future and stuff. Most of his visions have never really happened, so his powers are kind of a joke. But he had one vision where you were attacked, so I got worried, and I gave you that thing to drink. It was a potion to protect you, but then you saw the vision yourself, and um, yeah,â Chenle rambled.
âHis visions, theyâre not accurate?â you said with a raised eyebrow.
âTheyâve never really happened, so I think so. And what you saw,â Chenle paused for a second. âIt was probably just a manifestation of my own fears, since I was the one who gave you the potion. It doesnât really mean anything.â
âOkay, cool,â you said, brushing away the topic. âSo tell me more about you Chenle! What are your powers like?â
âWell Iâve been trained in practically everything, but my specialty is a secret.â You pouted at his answer. âItâs because my parents are kind of big deals in the magic world, so we canât be open about our abilities. Itâs for our safety.â
âWhen can I meet your parents? I am in their house, after all.â
âAt the cafe event. Theyâre launching a campaign about the implementation of magic in the real world, and the cafe is the first place on the list. Theyâll be there and a whole bunch of magical beings in the business world will be there too.â
You and Chenle sat on the floor of the library and talked for hours. You were amazed by all the books, and pulled out each from the shelves to have Chenle explain it to you. By the end of the night, you were engulfed by the world of magic. You wanted to learn more, so you asked Chenle if it was okay to stay over. He was delighted and showed you to a room near his own.
The next day at the cafe, you wanted to see the magic in action. You sneaked behind Jisung as he went into the back room. The room looked like the lab of a mad scientist. There were shelves filled with potions on all the walls. Your cover was blown when Jisung turned around.
âAh y/n! What are you, um, doing, uh, here?â Jisung stuttered. He took a step closer to you, trying to make you leave the room.
âChill out, Jisung. Chenle told me all about your little love potion,â you said with a smirk. âI know you guys have magic.âÂ
Jisung blushed at your words and replied, âWell since youâre here, want to see what Iâve been up to?â
You nodded and Jisung started to explain all the potions he had made. Most of them were just variations of the love potion, which was his specialty. You grabbed a bottle to examine.Â
âBe careful y/n! That oneâs still a little messed up. Chenle drank it before and he confessed that he like y-â Jisung stopped speaking when he realized what he had done.
âHe likes me?â you said with wide eyes.Â
âHe, uh, just pretend like you didnât hear anything, okay?â Jisung said before shooing you out the room. âChenleâs going to kill me for this,â he muttered to himself.Â
After the cafe had closed, Chenle invited you to his house again. The two of you were sitting in the library when Chenle opened up to you.
ây/n, I think youâre so perfect and beautiful and amazing and, uh, can I be your boyfriend?â Chenle blabbered.
You laughed at his confession, thinking back to what Jisung had told you earlier.
Chenle looked down and said, âI get it. Iâm sorry I-â
âDonât apologize,â you said, grabbing his hand. âI like you too! I was just laughing because Jisung spilled your secret earlier today.â
âUgh, Iâm going to get him for this!â
You and Chenle laughed and cuddled in the library. Chenle offered for you to spend the night again, and you happily accepted. Every day after work, Chenle offered to take you to his home, and you always said yes. You practically lived at his house.Â
One night, while you were sleeping, Chenle was discussing the cafe event with his mother.
âItâll be shameful if Haechan doesnât have his powers. People from all over the world are going to coming to the cafe. What are they going to think when they see a boy with unawakened powers? We have to maintain our reputation.â
âBut mom-â
âNo buts. If the only way to bring out the magic in him is through a ritual, then so be it. Youâve got a sleeping human upstairs, ready to be sacrificed. I expect you to do whatâs right for this family.â
Chenle couldnât bring himself to hurt you. His familyâs success was nothing compared to your life. You were his number one priority, or at least thatâs what he tried to convince himself.Â
It was the day of the cafe event and Chenle still hadnât followed his mother orders. Chenle knew there would be dire consequences if he didnât do as he was told.
âHey y/n, Haechan, can you help me in the back?â Chenle said. His voiced quivered slightly as he thought about what he was going to do.Â
When you were all in the back room, Chenle told you to count how many potions were on the walls. With your back wide open, Chenle whispered âIâm sorry,â and slashed you.Â
You woke up in a hospital bed. Chenle was sitting next to you.
âChenle, baby, what happened?â you said innocently.Â
ây/n! I was threated by my mother to use your blood for a sacrifice and give it to Haechan so it would awaken his powers and I really didnât want to do it I swear, but my mother forced me so I had no choice and y/n I know this makes me a horrible person, I just didnât know what to do so-â Chenle rambled before breaking down into tears.
âThe vision. Renjunâs vision was true. The reason I had the vision when you gave me the protection potion was because you were the one I needed protection from,â you said in a monotone voice.Â
âIâm so sorry, just please, please, just forgive me, I really didnât want for it to turn out this way, please,â Chenle pleaded.
âYou know so much about magic. You knew what my vision meant, didnât you? You lied to me.â
âI truly didnât mean, oh just please, I didnât want to do it, it was all a mistake, I just wanted to help you, I didnât know it would be like this,â Chenle continued.Â
As betrayed as you felt, you knew Chenle was genuine. You loved him with your whole heart and you knew he felt the same way about you. You couldnât let him torture himself over something he had no choice over.Â
You headed into you 8 am class late as usual. After pulling out your notebook from your bag, you threw yourself down on the desk.
âBusy night, y/n?â Jaemin asked. You and Jaemin didnât really talk that much at all. At the cafe, Jaemin was always in his own world, and in class he just stared at the board, though you doubted he actually remembered anything from the lectures. It was strange that Jaemin started a conversation with you, but it was also strange that you were resting on the desk. No matter how exhausted you were, you took notes, albeit sloppy.Â
âI had 3 essays to write. Two of which I didnât even know existed until Haechan texted me for my work,â you replied.
âYou should be more responsible, y/n. I need someone reliable to cheat off of,â Haechan said. You rolled your eyes at his reply and groaned. You didnât have the energy to argue with him.Â
âYou should just rest, y/n. Iâll take notes for you and we can review them after class today,â Jaemin said. He smiled at you, but you were fast asleep.
After class, Jaemin shaked your shoulder to wake you up.
ây/n! y/n! Everyone already left the class. Itâs time to go,â Jaemin whispered in your ear.
âWhere are the other guys?â you asked with a breathy voice.
âTheyâre at the cafe already. Iâm sure theyâll be fine without us. Letâs go to the library.â
Jaemin helped you up your seat and packed your books in you bag. He even offered to carry it for you, but you declined. Jaemin held your hand as the two of you walked over to the library. He was still worried about how tired you were and didnât want you to fall.
The library was filled with students trying to study. Jaemin led you to a secluded corner in the back.Â
You dropped your bag down and asked, âare you sure theyâll manage without us in the cafe?â
âYouâre the one who should be drinking an americano, not the one making it.â Jaemin smiled at you and reached out for your hand. âDonât worry about the cafe right now.âÂ
Jaemin lectured the content of the class to you. He was a natural at explaining everything. Even when you had a question about the topic, Jaemin was able to answer them with ease. As you copied down your notes, you were surprised to find yourself understanding the content better when Jaemin was teaching you.
At the end of the session you said, âYou take such good notes! And remember everything from class too! Iâm impressed. We should totally do this more often.â
âWell I still have to work at the cafe to pay my tuition, but Iâll definitely help you out, y/n.âÂ
âYeah, working at the cafe is my destresser. I wouldnât want to give that up,â you chuckled. âMaybe you could come over to my place after work and we can study then.â
The next day, you were late to class once again. You rushed over to your seat, but this time you didnât pull out your books. You knew Jaemin had you covered, so you plopped your head down on the desk for some rest.Â
ây/n, I need you to start taking this class seriously,â Haechan said. âI need to pass, you know.âÂ
You knew that replying to Haechan was just provoke him into arguing with you, so let his comment slide.Â
âYouâre super late this time, y/n. I was almost certain that Renjunâs vision about your death had finally happened,â Jisung said.
Jisungâs remark was just too strange to ignore. Your head shot up and you gave Jisung a raised eyebrow.
âWhat the hell does that mean?âÂ
A look of realization took over Jisungâs face before he looked down at the floor. âSorry about that guys,â he whispered.Â
The other boys all exchanged uncomfortable glances as if they were trying to figure out who would explain what had been said about you. Finally, Jaemin broke the silence.
âWe can talk at the cafe.â The boys had slightly less uncomfortable looks on their faces, but they still appeared to be worried about something. You decided to not stress over it. Your priority was catching up on your sleep.Â
After class, you and the dreamies headed out to the cafe and started preparing before customers arrived.
You were wiping down tables when you asked, âso is anyone going to explain to me what happened this morning?â You knew you were going to be working with Jaemin, and that boy was like a rock when got to work. This was your only opportunity to get answers.
âLook, youâre not going to believe us at all,â Mark started.
âWeâve got magic powers,â Haechan said.Â
âYou see y/n, Jisungâs a wizard. He makes love potions so people will fall in love with our cafe,â Jaemin explained. While he was talking, Jisung pulled out a pink liquid from under the counter and waved it at you. You had no energy to question them so you just let Jaemin continue.
âAnd Jeno, heâs a water spirit. Do a little trick for us Jeno,â Jaemin said. Jeno formed a ball of water in his hand and shifted it into different shapes.
âWhat the-â was all you could muster up. âThat water just came out of thin air! And youâre controlling it!â
âLike I was saying, y/n, itâs all magic.â Jaemin smiled at the look of wonder on your face. âNext up we have Renjun. Care to explain yourself Renjun?â
Renjun groaned before saying, âIâm an oracle. I see the future. And your future has an attack in it. I didnât see you die like Jisung said, but since youâre a human, youâre probably going to-â
âAlright thatâs enough,â Jaemin said, cutting Renjun off before he could tell you more about your fate. You were so amazed by Jenoâs abilites that you werenât even fazed by what Renjun had said.
âWhat about you Jaemin?â you said with a smile.
âIâm human and so is Mark. We know our way around magic pretty well though,â Jaemin said with a self-satisfied grin.
âAnd Chenle and Haechan?â you asked, eager to learn more.
âNone of your business,â Chenle replied harshly. Chenleâs tone snapped you out of your amazement and made you serious about your work again. Jaemin, like usual, didnât talk much during his shift, so you would have to wait until the cafe was closed to get more answers.
âHey Jaemin,â you said as you were heading out the cafe. âDoes tonight work for you?â
The boys all looked at each other with wide eyes. They had no idea about your study plans with Jaemin.
âAny night works for me,â Jaemin replied as he followed you out the cafe. You could hear the giggles of the boys even when you were standing outside. Jaemin looked at you with an embarrassed smile before holding your hand and following you home. Â
At your apartment, Jaemin got to lecturing you once again. He made sure you understood every topic covered in class in full detail. You were still amazed by how good of a teacher Jaemin turned out to be.Â
After he finished talked Jaemin said, âwell thatâs everything we learned today. Got any questions, y/n?â
âAbout the coursework, no. About magic, yes.â
âMagic happens to be my strong suit, so ask away,â he replied with a smile.Â
âWell Chenle and Haechan didnât really explain their powers. Do you know what they are?â
âNope,â Jaemin said, shaking his head. âChenleâs family is pretty influential in the magic world, so revealing their powers is kind of a security risk for them. Whatever Chenle does, I bet heâs pretty strong at it though.â Jaemin paused for a second. âAs for Haechan, he hasnât really gotten his powers yet. Heâs kind of touchy about it since most people get their powers by this age.â
You nodded your head in agreement, though you had no idea how it all worked.
âSo what about you Jaemin?â you said in playful tone as you poked his shoulder.
âWhat about me?â Jaemin replied, mimicking your voice and poking you back.
âWhatâs your relation with magic?â you said with a smile.
Jaeminâs face became serious. He took a minute to think before replying to you.
âItâs a family thing,â was all he said. You decided to not press him any further about magic.Â
âYou know, Jaemin, itâs really not that late. If youâre down, you could stay and watch some Netflix. Iâve got some leftover pizza in the fridge too.â
âThatâs a great idea! I know so many good dramas that are on Netflix!â
You microwaved a few slices of pizza while Jaemin picked out a show to watch on Netflix. It turned out, alongside having a coffee obsession, Jaemin was also obsessed with period dramas. He talked nonstop about the characters and kept on playing episode after episode. It wasnât until you two had finished the first season at 1 am did Jaemin say, âit might be getting a little late now.â
He looked over to you for a response, but you had already passed out on the sofa. Jaemin stared at your sleeping figure and admired your beauty.
âSince youâre sleeping I might as well tell you this now. I donât know if Iâll ever have the confidence to tell you this when youâre awake. I really like you, y/n. I think youâre the most amazing person in the world. Iâd give anything to be with you.â
Jaemin sighed and went to sleep on your floor. Unknown to him, you had actually been listening the entire time.Â
It became a habit for you and Jaemin to study at your place after work. Jaemin would lecture you for a while, and then you would order delivery food to thank him for helping you. After watching Netflix, Jaemin would sometimes even sleep over at your place.Â
One night, you and Jaemin were cuddling on the sofa while watching a drama. Jaemin looked over a you and said, âThereâs some things I should tell you, y/n.â
You smiled, expecting Jaemin to confess to you. What you heard was not a confession of love.
âYou wanted to know about my connection with magic, so here it is. My mom used to sell plants, mushrooms, stuff you would use in potions. I would go foraging with her in the forest so we could find things to sell. Our customers were kind to us, they would even give us part of the potions they made. One day, this fire demon came into the store and gave my mother a potion to drink. She collapsed on the floor. The fire demon killed her and used her blood for a sacrifice.â
Jaemin began to cry as he thought about what had happened to his mother. You pulled him into a tight hug and rubbed his head. You felt sorry for Jaemin, who had to live his life in so much pain.Â
After a few more study sessions, Jaemin finally pulled himself together and asked you out.
âI really like you, y/n. I think youâre the most amazing person in the world. Iâd give anything to be with you.â
âThatâs the same thing you said when I was sleeping. Youâre so cute,â you said, kissing him on the forehead.Â
Jaemin stared at you with wide eyes and said, âwait you heard that? You knew I liked you and you didnât even say anything?âÂ
You laughed at Jaemin before turning on his favorite show and cuddling with him.Â
The next day at the cafe, you were supposed to be working with Jisung, but he had gotten sick. You and Haechan were taking over for him.Â
âHey y/n, youâve never seen the potions room before, right?â Haechan said. You nodded in reply. âItâs crazy in there. You totally have to check it out.â
You followed Haechan into the back of the cafe where all the potions were. You were amazed at the amount of potions there was in the back room. Haechan grabbed a vial off a rack and handed it to you.Â
âYou should try this one y/n! Itâll make you feel so energized!â Haechan said.
You opened the vial and drunk all of the strange liquid inside. Unlike what Haechan had said, you began to feel sleepy and collapsed on the floor. When you looked at Haechan for help, you noticed that he had a knife in his hand.Â
âBe good for me and donât make any noise, okay?â Haechan said before slashing your skin with the knife. You couldnât help but cry with all the pain you were feeling. You slowly became more tired until you passed out.Â
When you woke up, you found yourself in a hospital bed. Jaemin was standing beside you and held onto your hand.
âOh my gosh! y/n, baby, youâre alive!â Jaemin said before tearing up.
âWhat happened?â you asked.
âHaechan poisoned you. He cut you for your blood. He used it for a ritual to summon his powers. He had already transformed before we could even help you. Haechanâs a fire demon.â
You wanted to say something, but you had no idea what to do. The whole situation was just like what had happened to his mother. You and Jaemin were both thinking the same thing, but neither of you wanted to say it.Â
A few days later, you were discharged from the hospital. Although you felt fine after your rest, Jaemin was the one who was truly hurting. Jaemin stopped going to class and the cafe because of Haechan. He just stayed at your apartment.Â
âJaemin, you need to forgive him. Iâm not hurt. Iâm completely fine!â you argued.Â
âI canât forgive him! That bastard nearly killed you!â Jaemin yelled at you.Â
âWhether you like it or not, youâve got to start living like a normal person again! You canât just run away from your problems!â
Jaemin began to laugh.
âYouâre right, y/n. Iâm going to make that scumbag pay for what he did.â

You walked in to your 8 am class, late as usual. A bouquet of roses was waiting for you at your seat. You picked up the bouquet and read the note attached to it.Â
Youâre the most beautiful person in the world. You light up my life like nobody else. - Haechan
You took your seat and shot a confused look towards Haechan.
âWhatâs with the One Direction lyrics, dude?â
âNo y/n, youâre not supposed to say that. Youâre supposed to say âOh my gosh Haechan, youâre so perfect! I want to go out with you!ââ Haechan shook his head in disappointment.Â
âDude, I told you this wouldnât work,â Jeno said.
ây/nâs too dumb to figure it out,â Renjun added. ây/nâs only going to get it if youâre direct.â
âUgh, youâre right. Whyâd I fall for someone so clueless?â Haechan rolled his eyes at you. âDo you want to go on a date with me?â
âSure, whatever,â you answered. You secretly had a crush on Haechan for months, but you did want to be teased by him. Even now that you had a date with him, you were still wary about opening up to him.
Your mind was on Haechan for the entire class. It usually was, but today you had more to think about than just his beautiful honey skin. You wondered why he suddenly asked you out, where he was going to take you, and if you two could really have a sucessful future together.
ây/n! Donât stop taking those notes! You donât want your boyfriend to fail, do you?âÂ
His voice snapped you out of your imagination. Perhaps the key passing this class was all that you were to him. You shouldnât have gotten ahead of yourself.
You spend your day at the cafe working with Mark. The two of you were icing cakes. Haechan was in the back of the cafe baking them. You couldnât keep in your questions about him any longer.Â
âMark. You and Haechan work together the most, right?â you asked.
âYeah. This is about him asking you out earlier today, isnât it?â Mark replied. You nodded. âI know the guy is weird and all, but I think heâs pretty genuine when it comes to his feelings.â
âYou really think so?â you said with a smile.
âHeâs kind of had a crush on you for a while, so yeah. Iâm actually surprised he didnât ask you out earlier.â
You continued your shift with a smile, thinking about what Mark had told you. Maybe Haechan was a sweet guy after all, you just had to give him a chance. After all the customers were gone and cleanup was over, you made your way out the cafe door.
âHey! Wait y/n!â Haechan screamed, running after you. âYou werenât trying to get away from me before our date, were you?â
âWeâre going on the date now?â you said with a shocked expression.
âYeah, didnât I tell yo-â Haechanâs voice became quiet after he realized he had never told you the details of the date. âWell anyways, letâs get going.â
Haechan took you to an Italian restaurant. It wasnât the most luxurious place, but it was definitely fancy for two broke college students. After a short wait, the two of you took your seats by the window.
âThis place is beautiful, Haechan,â you said, trying to break the ice between you too.
âIf you think water stains and ketchup is beautiful, then sure.â
âI was just trying to be friendly,â you replied with a laugh. âWhatâs beautiful to you Haechan?â
âWell besides, you?â Haechan gave you a smirk. âI think magic is the most wonderful thing in the world.â
âLike, card tricks?â you raised an eyebrow at him.Â
âNo, not like card tricks. Actual magic. Powers, potions, stuff like that. Itâs all just crazy to me, yet so perfect.â Haechan had a look of wonder in his eyes.Â
âYou donât actually believe in magic, right? You know those are just fairytales,â you said with a smile.
âMagic is real, y/n. The cafe is literally run by magic. How do you think we get so many customers? Thereâs a love potion in our food to get people to come back. Thatâs Jisungâs specialty, by the way. Heâs a wizard. And Jeno, heâs a water spirit. And Renjunâs an oracle.â
âOh yeah, right. And this place is controlled by magic too,â you said rolling your eyes.
âIt is. Do not eat the mushrooms here. I had to learn that the hard way,â Haechan said with a dead serious expression.
âWhat, do people with magic abilities just naturally gravitate towards food service?â
âWell Chenleâs parents are like, super big deals in the magic world, so what they do is whatâs popular.âÂ
âAnd what powers does Chenle have?â you asked.
âI donât really know. Itâs kind of a safety concern for his family to just share what abilities they have. They only use them when theyâre in serious danger.â
âWhat about Mark and Jaemin?â You didnât know why you were so curious, since you didnât even believe the things he was saying.
âRegular people. Just like you. Well, actually theyâve been exposed to magic for their whole lives, so I suppose theyâve got an advantage over you.â
âAnd what about you? Since you know so much about magic, why donât you show me some?â
Haechan paused before answering your question. âI donât exactly have my powers yet. But if you still donât believe me, Iâll have Jisung show you some magic tomorrow.âÂ
âGreat.â You didnât really believe what he was saying, but you didnât want to argue with him either. Like Mark had said, Haechan was a weird guy. You figured that this whole magic thing was just something he did to calm his nerves. After all, he did have a crush on you for a while.Â
The rest of the date went wonderfully. You and Haechan discussed everything from movies to your childhoods. You enjoyed Haechanâs wit that kept the conversation alive. There was never a dull moment between you two. At the end of the night, Haechan took you home to your apartment.
âI had a wonderful time with you tonight,â you said with a smile.
âMe too, baby, me too,â was all Haechan said before he pulled you in for the most passionate kiss you had ever hand. It felt as if time had stopped. Haechan only let go after he saw you struggling for air. With that over, Haechan left as if nothing had happened.Â
The next day at the cafe, the boys were begging to hear about your date with Haechan.
âHowâd it go?â Jaemin said.
âDid he make a fool out of you? Is that why youâre not saying anything?â Chenle asked.
âCome on Chenle, you know better than that. He probably made a fool out of himself first,â Renjun replied. The dreamies erupted into laughter.
âWell the first thing we discussed was magic. y/n doesnât believe in it,â Haechan finally piped up. The boys became silent and exchanged concerned glances. âGuys, I told her about your powers. Itâs not like we could have kept it a secret with her working here all the time.â
âIâll show you some magic, y/n. Haechan told you what I do right?â Jisung said, breaking the silence.Â
âYeah, youâve got a thing for potions,â you answered.
âI prefer wizard, but youâre still right.â Jisung grabbed a bottle with a blue liquid from under the counter. âThis is liquid joy. Itâll instantly take you to the happiest moment in your life.âÂ
Jisung poured you a cup and handed it to you. You took a sip and were instantly transported to a wedding. You didnât remember having the happiest moment of your life at some strangerâs wedding until you looked at the couple getting married. It was you and Haechan. Before you could take a closer look, you were back at the cafe.
âWow. Thatâs actually crazy.â
âSo you believe in magic now, right?â Haechan asked. You couldnât muster up the strength to reply. You were still trying to process what you had seen.Â
âSo whatâd you see, y/n?â Mark asked.
âI, um, uh-â was all you could come up with.
âProbably just some stuff from childhood. You guys know how strong that stuff is,â Jeno said. You smiled at him for saving you from an awkward situation.Â
You spent your shift working with Haechan, which was exhausting to say the least. Nothing you did was up to his standards.
âItâs okay if you suck at baking, y/n. I still love you,â Haechan said before planting a kiss on your forehead. A chorus of âoohsâ and âdisgustingâ came from the dreamies.
It became a habit for you and Haechan to go on dates after work. He showed you around all the restaurants owned by magical beings. One night, this list included his own apartment.Â
âYou said we were going somewhere fancy tonight,â you said as you sat down on his sofa. âYour apartment is a dump.â
âWell your idea of fancy is a goblin-owned Italian restaurant, so you shouldnât be talking,â Haechan replied. Within a matter of minutes, he whipped up a small dinner for the two of you. He sat down next to you and pulled you into his arms.
âYou know, you asked me about my powers on our first date,â he said in a soft tone.Â
âYeah,â you replied. You didnât know where the conversation was going, but you were interested in hearing more.Â
âThere is one way for me to get my abilities immediately, but Iâd need your help.â
âSure!â you replied.Â
âThereâs this ritual that will help awaken my powers. I need the blood of a human to do it, though.â Haechan paused to examine your face.Â
âAnd Iâve got plenty of blood! What are you waiting for?â you said. Haechan was shocked at your enthusiasm to offer your blood. As weird as the situation was, you wanted to help your boyfriend in any way you could.
âOkay baby. I need you to lie down on the floor and Iâll get things started, alright?â Haechan got up from the sofa and went into the kitchen.
âI feel like Iâm in one of those stories. Iâve got a hot, vampire boyfriend who needs my blood,â you said with a laugh before you laid down on the ground.
âIâm not a vampire y/n. Those guys give me creeps,â Haechan replied. He stood in front of you with a knife in his hand. âI promise Iâll make it as quick as possible.âÂ
Haechan leaned down and pierced your skin with the knife. You screamed as the cold, metal blade dug into your leg. Your screams frightened Haechan, causing him to push deeper. His terrified face was the last thing you saw before you passed out.Â
When you woke up, you found yourself in a hospital bed. You were surrounded by the dreamies. Haechan was sitting by your foot side, crying.
âDid it work? For Haechan?â you asked the boys.
âIt did. Heâs a fire demon,â Jeno answered.
âBut thatâs not important right now. He put you in danger!â Jaemin screamed.
âI wanted him to gain his powers,â you said quietly.
âThose rituals are so risky! Summoning your powers like that, you might go haywire!â Chenle yelled.
âBut heâs okay, right?â you asked.
âWill you stop worrying about Haechan for one second! He used you! He put you life in jeopardy for his own benefit!â Renjun shouted at you.Â
ây/n, I didnât mean it. I just thought maybe I could try not to hurt you, and I didnât even think you were going to agree with it anyways, and I should have known better, oh my gosh. Renjun even had a vision where I hurt you and I didnât even listen to him, I just though maybe-â Haechan babbled between tears.Â
âRenjun had a vision? You knew this was going to happen and you still did it? You knew I was going to get hurt and you didnât even try to protect me?â you screamed.Â
âIâm so sorry, please just forgive me, I really tried to not hurt you, I was wrong, I didnât mean for it to be this way,â Haechan cried.
You couldnât stand to see your boyfriend in pain. You thought back to what Mark had told you about Haechan. His feelings were genuine.Â
âI forgive you.â
âWhat? Oh my gosh, y/n, Iâll never let you get hurt again, oh please, Iâll never leave your side, Iâll protect you for the rest of my life, Iâll-â Haechan threw himself into your lap.
âItâs alright, Haechan. I know baby, I know,â you said as you hugged him and patted his head.Â
You were helping out at the cafe like usual. Today, you had been assigned to work with Jeno, mixing drinks. It was going smoothly until Chenle had called out your name.
ây/n!â
You immediately turned around to hear what Chenle had to say. Jeno happened to be moving two cups of water towards the flavoring syrups at the same time. Your sudden movement caused Jeno to lose his balance and skid across the cafe floor. The drinks spilled all over Jenoâs clothes and the floor.
âWatch out,â Chenle said, his voice becoming quieter as he saw the scene unfold.
âNice timing,â Jeno grumbled.
âOh my gosh, Jeno! Iâm so sorry, I really didnât-â you started to say.
âItâs no big deal, y/n.â You watched as Jeno moved his hand over the spill. All of the water that had been on the floor had turned into a orb of water hovering over Jenoâs hand.
âWhat the-â Jeno covered your mouth with his free hand before you could finish you sentence.
âIâll explain everything later.â
You and Jeno got back to work, but you couldnât help but think about what Jeno had done. The water had been floating in the air like he could just summon it. Heâd better have a good explanation for that one, you thought.Â
After the shift was over, the dreamies started cleaning up immediately. They were all quiet and you just couldnât take it anymore.
âWill anyone tell me how the hell Jeno can just summon water?âÂ
The boys exchanged concerned looks to one another. When they saw that nobody was opposed to the idea, they decided to break the silence.
âDo you know what magic is, y/n?â Jeno said.
âYeah.â
âWell what you say earlier was magic. Iâm a water spirit so I can do those sorts of things.â Jeno paused to see if you were following along. You nodded as if it was no big deal. âAnd Jisungâs a wizard. He fed you a love potion by the way, so youâd come back to the cafe.â
You shrugged and said, âJisung makes one fine love potion. Iâm addicted to this place.âÂ
The dreamies were suprised by how casually you were taking in all this information.
âChenle and Haechan also arenât human.â You nodded along again. âJaemin and Mark are regular people though. Theyâve pretty much been exposed to magic their whole lives though, so itâs not really a big deal for them.âÂ
âWhat about Renjun?â you asked.Â
Jeno stayed quiet, and all the boys looked down at the floor. Mark didnât pick up on the signal.
âRenjunâs an oracle. How cool is that! He can see into the future and stuff and he even saw you, except you were being attacked so that kind of sucks, so-â Mark paused when he saw the stern looks the boys were giving him.
âWere you guys just going to keep this a secret from me?â you asked with your mouth agape.
âRenjun was, like, black out drunk at 1 am when he had that vision. Heâs also never had a vision thatâs come true, so we figured that it would only worry you if we told you about it,â Jeno explained.
You laughed at his explanation.Â
âBlack out drunk at 1 am and all you can think of is me, huh, Renjun?â you said in a teasing tone. The boys began to laugh at Renjun.
âHey! Jenoâs the one that started crying at the party when he heard it!â Renjun said trying to defend himself.
You glanced over at Jeno and raised an eyebrow.
âLook at you y/n, youâve got drunk guys swooning all over you at parties you donât even attend!â Haechan said in a teasing tone.
âOoh, Iâm so lucky! What ever shall I do?â you replied, matching Haechanâs playful energy.Â
After all the jokes were over, you all got back to work on cleaning up the cafe. You were heading out towards your apartment when you heard Jeno call your name.
âHey y/n, wait up for me!â he said as he ran over to catch up with you.
âWhatâs up, Jeno?â
âI know you were joking earlier, but if you are going to pick one, I really hope itâs me.â
âAre you trying to ask me out, Jeno Lee?â you giggled.
âIs it working?â he said with an expectant look.Â
âYes. One hundred percent yes.âÂ
Jeno laughed at your response. He gently held on to your hand and listened to you talk all the way to your apartment.Â
âSo, uh, a date after class tomorrow?â Jeno asked.Â
âSure thing,â you said, laughing at how shy Jeno was.
The next day, you and Jeno headed out immediately after the lecture.
âWeâre heading out the cafe now, not going to stick around and chat guys,â was all Jeno said before he whisked you away on a date.
Indeed, you both did go to a cafe, just not Cafe 7 Dream. It felt nice to be the ones ordering drinks and not the ones making them. After you had gotten your orders, you and Jeno began to talk.
âYou didnât tell me everything yesterday,â you said.
âWhat do you mean?â Jeno tilted his head in confusion.Â
âAbout Chenle and Haechan. Isnât there more to them?â
âWell Chenle, heâs got magic and thatâs all I know. And Haechan, he hasnât really gotten his powers yet.â
âWhy not?â you asked.
âWell most kids learn how to use their powers from their parents, but his dad was just a regular human. And his mom, she died when he was really young. He hasnât really got any guidance on how to summon his powers naturally, so heâs just been waiting for it come out one day.â
âAnd thereâs nothing you can do to help?âÂ
âI mean, thereâs this really old practice that requires the blood of a human, so I suppose you could offer yourself up for sacrifice. Thatâll definitely awaken his powers,â Jeno chuckled.Â
You and Jeno continue on your date, talking about everything from your childhoods to ice cream flavors. There was never a dull moment between you two.Â
The next day, you walked into your 8 am lecture late as usual. You slipped into you seat and pulled out your books for class.
âWhy so late y/n? Jeno keep you up too long?â Haechan teased.
âHe told us everything about your little date,â Jaemin said.
âIâm offended y/n! I really thought you would choose me over Jeno!â Renjun said, pretending to be upset.
âI had to make all the drinks yesterday with Jisung! y/n please never go on dates during cafe hours. It was like hell,â Chenle complained.
âHey! Iâm not that bad! I only spilled half of the drinks!â Jisung said, trying to defend himself.Â
You and Jeno never skipped a shift at the cafe after that, as the teasing was too much to handle. Even though the boys still joked about you and Jeno when you two worked together, it was still better than all the comments you had gotten after the date. Instead, you and Jeno had decided to have movie nights at your place after work. You never really paid attention to the movies. You were always more interested in your boyfriendâs warm snuggles and kisses.Â
It was finally the day before the cafe event. Chenle asked you all to stay back late and help set up for the next day, since it was going to be even more busy than usual.
âHey y/n, youâve never seen the potions right? You should come help me in the back! Iâve got so much stuff prepared for the event tomorrow!â Jisung said. You followed Jisung into the back room, which looked like a labratory. There were tons of vials lined up with colorful liquids, all stacked up on shelves.Â
âWoah, this is crazy. How did you guys pass the health inspection will all this stuff back here?â
âItâs simple. Magic,â Jisung said with a smile. Jisung grabbed a vial with a yellow liquid and popped the cap off. âThis one is actually a-â
Jisung swung his hand as he was speaking and accidentally spilled the liquid on your hand. You screamed in pain as you felt your hand burning. Jisung stepped back in fear of what he had done. Haechan, who had been packing boxes by the back door, heard your scream and rushed to help you.Â
You were lying on the floor in pain and Haechan dropped down to inspect your hand. The rest of the boys had now walked into the back room to see Haechan holding your bloody hand.Â
Jeno immediately though the worst and assumed that Haechan had been crazy enough to try the sacrifice with your blood. Jeno pulled Haechan away from you and punched him in the face. You watched as Jeno blasted Haechan with water until Haechan collapsed onto the floor.
ây/n, thank goodness youâre safe,â Jeno said was he pulled you into a hug.
You pushed him away and began to scream.
âWhat the hell! Haechan was trying to help me! Jisung spilled some potion on me and Haechan came to help! Help, Jeno! He was just trying to help!â
Jeno stepped back from you as he took in what you had said. He felt horrible for attacking his innocent friend instead of helping his girlfriend. Jisung rushed to your side and gave you a potion to drink.
âThis one is going to heal you, y/n. Donât drink too much though, Haechan still needs it,â Jisung said.
âI donât need it,â Haechan said. Everyoneâs head turned to look at Haechan. He was manipulating two fireballs in his hand. âJenoâs attack kind of summoned my powers. Looks like Iâm a fire demon.âÂ
âCongrats dude,â Mark said.
âThatâs really cool,â Jisung added.Â
âIâm really proud of you,â Jaemin said.
âI always knew that there was more to your fiery attitude,â Renjun said with a smile. Everyone turned to Jeno to hear what he had to say.
âIâm really sorry for attacking you, but at least youâve got powers now,â Jeno said with a laugh.Â
âLook at you two! Fire and water! An unbeatable combination in battle! Letâs hope you two are an unbeatable combination at cleaning up too,â Chenle said.
âCafe. Now.â That was all Renjun said before he hung up the phone.Â
You wondered why Renjun wanted you at the cafe. You knew the boys went partying on the weekends, but you were pretty sure the parties didnât happen at the cafe. You werenât sure why they would need you there either. Yet the seriousness in Renjunâs voice pushed you get ready and leave for the cafe.
When you arrived, you saw that the cafe was empty except for the dreamies. You walked over to the spot they usually hanged out after their shifts.
âIf this is some prank Renjun, Iâm going to ki-â You stopped speaking when you saw their expressions. The boys all looked distressed.Â
ây/n, sit down,â Renjun said, offering you a reluctant smile. You listened to him, as you were even more confused than before.
âThis might sound crazy. You probably think weâre just drunk but you just have to listen to us, okay?â Renjun said as he held your hand.
âSome people arenât normal people. Some people have magic abilities. Some of us here have those powers. Weâre not just regular human beings.â Renjun continued.
You pulled your hand away from Renjun. âThatâs what you called to tell me? What the hell Renjun?â You stood up and turned around to leave.
You froze at the sight before you. There was a wolf in the cafe, a wolf made of water. You screamed and it disappeared. All that was left of the animal was a puddle on the floor.
Renjun put his arm around your shoulder and said, âlike I was saying, magic powers. Thatâs Jenoâs powers. Heâs a water spirit. Are you following along so far?âÂ
You were still trying to process what had just happened so you were unable to respond to Renjun.
âJust sit and weâll explain everything,â Renjun said in a soft tone. You sat down since your body felt too weak to move further.
âNext up we have Jisung. Heâs a wizard. His specialty, well, why donât you tell y/n your specialty, Jisung?â Renjun said with a smirk.Â
âLove potions,â Jisung admitted. His cheeks were burning at the revelation of his skills. The other boys noticed and laughed quietly.Â
âYeah, Jisung puts the love potion in the food so people come back to the cafe. The first batch actually gave our customers food poisoning, but they still came back for more.â Renjun noticed the shocked look on your face. âYouâve had the love potion too. Surprisingly though, youâre in love with working at the cafe more than eating here.âÂ
âHurry up and explain your powers already Renjun. I want to go home,â Jaemin grumbled.
âIâm an oracle. I have visions about the future. And I kind of had one where you were attacked,â Renjun said, his voice becoming quiet at the last word. The tension in the air grew again. âIâm sorry y/n.â
âWhat? What the hell? When is it? When am I going to be attacked?â you said. You had grabbed onto Renjunâs collar and began to shake him.
ây/n, y/n. Just listen okay?â Renjun said with his hands up in surrender. âVisions donât come with times and action plans. But youâve got us here. Weâre going to protect you no matter what okay?âÂ
You let go of Renjun and looked at the other boys. They seemed genuine in their concern.Â
âWell how am I supposed to just go home knowing Iâm about to be attacked at any second?â
âFrom now on, weâre going to escort you everywhere you go. If you need to go somewhere, just call one of us and weâll take you there.â Renjun stood up. âItâs time to get you home now y/n.â
The other boys all had other plans, so they didnât walk home with you and Renjun. As soon as you guys left the cafe, Renjun held onto your hand. Your head snapped towards Renjun.Â
âWhat? Iâm doing this for your protection,â he said with a smile.
âWhat about the other guys?â you asked.
âWhat about them?â
âMark, Jaemin, Haechan, and Chenle. You didnât explain their powers to me.â
âWell Mark and Jaemin are just humans. Theyâve pretty much been connected to the magic world their whole lives though, so theyâve got an advantage over you. Chenleâs family happens to be one of the most powerful magic families in the world. Theyâve got a lot of enemies too, so disclosing their abilities is a safety concern for them. You know, in case they get attacked one day.â
âLike me.âÂ
âHaechan, well, Haechan doesnât really have his powers yet. They usually awaken by puberty, but heâs a late bloomer I suppose,â Renjun said with a chuckle. âIf he ever seems like an ass, itâs probably because all the magic inside him is being turbulent.â
âMagical puberty sounds like it sucks,â you said with a smile.
âYou have no idea.âÂ
You and Renjun continued on to your apartment, discussing your classes instead of magic. You had enough of that for one night.Â
When you reached outside your apartment building, you hugged Renjun.Â
âItâs probably not easy on you. You know, having those visions and all. Seeing what happens.â You took a long pause before speaking again. âBut Iâm grateful for you Renjun. I grateful that you care about me.â
That morning, you got a call from Renjun.
âRise and shine, sleepyhead. The cafe opens at 6 am on Saturdays and Iâm letting you leave my sight,â Renjun said.
âOkay, okay. Knock the door when you get here and Iâll you in,â you said, still groggy.Â
You heard a tap on the door.
âIâm already here.â
You opened the door and let Renjun inside. He took a seat on your sofa and said, âjust get your clothes on. You can eat breakfast at the cafe.â He took a second to inspect your clothes. âHey, youâre still wearing the same clothes from earlier! Come on, letâs go!âÂ
Renjun jumped up and dragged you out the door. You wondered how someone could be so upbeat in the morning, but you didnât have the energy to ask him any questions.
At the cafe, you took a seat with Renjun in his usual corner. He was still working on the poster for the cafe event.
âSo, the event, itâs next week Saturday right?â you asked. Renjun nodded. âThe people that are coming, what are they?â
âMagical beings. Diplomats, businesspeople, those sorts of people. Chenleâs parents are showing off the implementation of magic in the regular world and the cafe happens to be one of the sights. Thatâs why I have to make sure we get a bunch of customers in here. Real, paying ones.â
âWonât that be dangerous for me, then?â you said quietly.
âNope. Nobody with status is going to attack a regular person at such a busy event. Youâll probably be safer, actually,â Renjun said with a smile. âI know itâs making you worried, but youâve got the best guys protecting you here.â
After spending the day at the cafe, Renjun walked you home again. You invited him in again.
âItâs getting pretty late, you know. I wouldnât want the guy whoâs boasting about his protection to get jumped on the street,â you said. You knew Renjun was more than capable of taking care of himself, but you couldnât bear to see him go.
âGood looking out, y/n. Mind if I sleep here tonight?â he said, pointing to the couch. Renjun wanted to keep you by his side, but he knew there were limits.Â
You nodded and went to go find a blanket for him. It just so happened that you had been putting off your laundry for weeks.
âUm, Renjun? I kind of donât have any clean blankets, unless youâre okay with some food stains so-â
You stopped mid-sentence but you and Renjun both knew where this was going. You couldnât bring yourself to offer your bed, so you just pointed your head towards the bedroom. Renjun, whoâs mind was speeding through scenarios a mile a minute, mustered up a quick nod.
The two of you got in bed together and kept a distance, though you both wanted hold each other tightly.Â
âGood night, Renjun.â
âGood night, y/n.â
You woke up to find an arm around you. You pulled it in closer until you remembered what had happened last night. You shoved Renjunâs arm away, wondering what he would think of this situation.
âWhatâs wrong, baby?â Renjun said with his raspy morning voice.Â
You turned around and Renjun quickly pulled away when he realized it was you.
ây/n, ah, oh my gosh! Iâm so sorry! I, uh-â Renjun blabbered.
âI like you,â you said with a hopeful smile.
âWhat?â Renjun said with wide eyes. He noticed the look on your faced and continued, âI mean, uh, I do too.â
You got out of bed and started saying, âIâve liked you for a long time Renjun. I couldnât hold it in any longer, since youâre protecting me and all.â
âYou seriously like me? Oh my gosh! Jeno told me to ask you out, like, weeks ago when I told him I had crush on you! You mean Iâve been nervous this whole time when you actually like me back? The guys are going to have a field day over this one,â Renjun said as he slapped his forehead.Â
âThe guys donât have t-â you started.
âWell of course they have to know! Iâm dating the most beautiful person in the world and theyâre all single! Come on, get dressed quickly! Weâve got to get to the cafe!â
Renjun practically dragged you to the cafe to show you off to the boys. You were too tired to fight his energy. Once you were inside the cafe, Renjun called everyone to gather around.
âThis better be good,â Chenle said.
âWhat happened Renjun? Did you get another vision?â Haechan asked.
âEven better,â Renjun said before planting a kiss on your lips. It was soft and loving.Â
The dreamies erupted in screams upon seeing this.
âOh my gosh, there are children here you know!â Jisung said teasingly.
âAh, how can I work after seeing that?â Mark said.
âYou finally got the guts to ask y/n out?â Jeno said with a smile.
âActually, Iâm the one who confessed first,â you said before kissing Renjun again.
The boys screamed again and laughed at Renjun.
âOkay guys, letâs get to work. Renjunâs not the only one whoâs getting busy. Weâve got the event this Saturday,â Chenle said.Â
You and Renjun spent the day talking to customers and handing out flyers for the event. The two of you walked over to the campus and taped a poster on nearly every wall in the lecture halls.Â
After a long day of work, you and Renjun walked back to your apartment and watched a movie. This became a routine for you and Renjun. You two would go to the cafe, class, the cafe again, and then home. You and Renjun were never separated for even a second.
Thatâs why you were confused when you woke up on Saturday morning with Renjun gone. He never left when you were still asleep, he always stayed in bed until you woke up.Â
You walked into your living room to find Renjun and Haechan in the living room. Renjun was tied up with rope and was sitting on sofa. His mouth was taped up. Before you could even react, Haechan began to speak.
âYour sweet little boyfriend is okay. Youâre the one that should be worried, y/n,â Haechan said as he stepped closer to you. âYour boyfriend has been lying to you, y/n. He saw more than just you being attack in his vision. He saw exactly who did it, but he didnât even tell you.â Haechan pinned you to the wall.
âYouâve got a bad boyfriend, y/n. And even worse friends,â Haechan said with a laugh. âThey were never going to protect you, y/n. And now youâre all mine.â
âWhat are you talking about?â
âIâm sure Renjun told you about my powers. Theyâre not awaken yet. But todayâs the the of the cafe event, and all those magical beings are going to be there. Iâd be shameful if I didnât have my powers,â Haechan said with a mocking pout. âBut there is one way for me to get my abilities. A human sacrifice.â
Haechan pulled out a knife and slashed your arms and legs. You had no energy to scream. You collapsed on the floor and passed out.Â
You woke up and found yourself on your living room couch. All of the dreames were surrounding you, except for Haechan.
ây/n, I heard what Haechan told you. Itâs not true. I never meant to put you in danger. I didnât know it was Haechan, I never knew-â Renjun broke down crying before he could finish.
âWhat happened to him?â you asked.
âThe ceremony worked. Your blood was enough for him to complete the rutual and gain his powers. Heâs a fire demon,â Mark explained.
âHeâs run off and we have no idea where he is right now. But donât worry y/n, weâre still be by your side,â Jeno said.
âI made a healing potion for you. Youâve got some pretty bad burns,âJisung said. He handed you the liquid to drink, which happened to be in one of the cafeâs cups.
âWhat happened the cafe event? Whoâs handling that if youâre all here?â you asked.
âSince Haechan summoned his powers illegally, everyoneâs on the lookout for him. Most magic practices are out of service until heâs found,â Chenle answered.
Weeks went by after the attack, but there was no sign of Haechan. Renjun continued to stay by your apartment and never let you out of his sight. The cafe continued serving customers, but business was slow since they werenât using any potions. Jisung hated being the delivery boy.Â
On the day of your exam, you headed into the lecture hall and took your seat with the boys. You looked over to the seat near yours and thought of Haechan. You knew deep down that he was a good guy, things had just gotten out of hand. You wanted to talk to him and check up on how he was doing.Â
ây/n, will you please stop staring at my desk? Iâm supposed to cheat off of you, remember?â
âHaechan! What are you doing here?â you said with your mouth agape.
âItâs finals. Iâm here to take the test,â Haechan said. âIâll explain everything when we get to the cafe.â
On your walk over to the cafe, the boys all stared at Haechan intensely, trying to figure out why he had come back. Renjun gripped your hand tightly.Â
âI know Iâve got a lot of explaining to do, but can you guys just come down for one second?â Haechan said as he pushed open the cafe doors.
Once everyone sat down, Haechan began to talk.
âAfter the ceremony, I was in intense pain. I ran into the forest to meet with the elder spirits. They calmed me down and healed me. They trained me on how to manage my powers. Iâm a changed person now. Iâm really sorry for what I did y/n.â
âYouâd better be,â Renjun said. You stroked Renjunâs hand so he would calm down.
âIâm glad youâre back Haechan. Now letâs get to work!â you said.Â
It took a while, but everyone slowly became more comfortable with Haechan around. You and Renjun had a thriving relationship, much to the groupâs dissatisfaction. All was well and you were safe.Â
You were on your way to your 8 am class when you got a call from Mark. The boys didnât ever call you to work in the pre-class shift with them, they knew you couldnât function properly in the morning. You figured that the cafe was too much to handle right now and they needed your help. As you couldnât function properly in the morning, you didnât even pick up the call. You just ran over to the cafe to help out.Â
When you arrived at the cafe, you were shocked to see that the place was completely empty. The dreamies were all sitting around table in the back.Â
You walked over and said, âWhyâd you call me? I thought the cafe was getting out of hand with all the customers. The place is completely empty!â
ây/n, you didnât answer my phone call. You didnât reply to any of our texts either,â Mark said.
You sat down and looked at your phone. You had a bunch of notifications from the boys trying to get in contact with you.Â
âWell Iâm here now. Whatâs this all about anyways?â you asked. The dreamies all looked at each other and exchanged upset looks. They all turned to Mark, who seemed to have no choice but to tell you whatever news they had.
âLook y/n, youâre not going to believe us but just listen, okay?â Mark said as he held your hand. You were shocked by the sudden affection and couldnât protest.Â
âNot all of us are regular humans. There are some people that look normal but actually have lots of powers. Magic powers. Are you following along so far?â Mark said with a soft tone. You didnât know where this was going, so you just nodded.
âJisung, heâs from a family of wizards. Jeno is a water spirit. Renjun is an oracle. Chenleâs family are some of the most magically talented people in the world. Haechan, well, Haechan hasnât had his powers come out yet.â
âAnd you and Jaemin?â you asked.
âWeâre just normal people, but weâve been around magic for our whole lives.â
âSo why are you telling me this now?â you said anxiously.
âWell, um,â Mark said as he looked down. âYou know since Renjunâs an oracle, he can kind of see into the future. And when he was sleeping last night, he saw you being attacked.â
âWhat?â you screamed as you stood up. âWhat do you mean I get attacked? Who? What happens to me? Canât you guys stop it?âÂ
ây/n, youâre safe with us. Renjun didnât exactly see all the details, but thatâs not important anyways. Whatâs important is keeping you safe,â Mark said with his hand on your shoulder.
âHow? How?âÂ
âWeâre working on a plan right now. You have to go on with life like usual and stay out of risky situations,â Mark said.
âI know it sounds scary but weâre all here to protect you. Weâre going to walk you to class so youâll stay safe,â Haechan added. All of the boys looked scared, but they changed their expressions into happy ones when they noticed that you were getting more worried.
âItâs the y/n protection squad! Come on! Weâve got a class to get to!â Mark said, trying to lighten up the mood.Â
The boys walked you over to the lecture hall, and Mark had his arm around your shoulder the entire time. You all got into your seats at the back of the class as usual, but you couldnât help but feel worried.
âYouâve got nothing to worry about, you know,â Haechan leaned over to tell you. âYouâve got some of the strongest dudes in the world ready to protect you. Weâre going to tell you more about our powers after class. Just focus on the lecture so I can pass this class too.â
You laughed and punched his arm playfully.
âWhat? Bachelor degrees pretty useful in the magic world too, you know.â
After class, the boys didnât stop to talk in the hallway like they typically did. They escorted you right back to the cafe, and Mark made sure to keep his arm around your shoulders again. The boys didnât open the cafe for customers so they could finish talking to you.
âSo, powers, right? How do they work?â you asked.
âWell I donât really have powers. Wizards have a natural way with magic, but most skills still have to be learned. It takes years for a wizard to practice magic with just their mind alone,â Jisung said.
âIs that why youâre in the back most of the time? Youâre practicing skills?â you asked.
âAnd heâs gotten pretty good at some of them too,â Jaemin said with a smirk. âTell y/n the one youâve been working on.â
âItâs a love potion. I kind of put it in our food so that our customers come back to buy more,â Jisung said as he blushed.
âThatâs why I love coming to the cafe! I didnât understand why I wanted to help you guys out all the time, but it turns out that was all Jisungâs work!â you said with your mouth agape. âOkay, whoâs next?â
âIâm a water spirit. If youâre looking for someone to manipulate water or just make drinks, Iâm your guy,â Jeno explained.Â
âIâm an oracle,â Renjun said shyly. He felt guilty that he had been the one to see your perilous future. âI have visions about the future in my sleep. Theyâre usually accurate. Iâm sorry.â
âThis isnât your fault, Renjun. Iâm glad I have you to protect me,â you said with a smile. âThat leaves Chenle and Haechan.â The two of them stayed silent.Â
âAnyways y/n,â Mark started, hoping to ease tensions in the room, âdonât you feel safer with all these cool guys ready to protect you?â
âYeah, I do,â you said with a smile. You were almost happy that you were going to be attacked. Jisungâs love potion must have clouded your thinking since you were at the cafe.Â
âThen letâs get to work!â Mark said. They boys put on their aprons and got the cafe ready for opening. When the customers started piling in, you went over to Mark to help him.
âYouâre probably thinking about Haechan and Chenle, arenât you?â Mark said quietly.
âYeah, I am,â you admitted.
âTheyâre great guys. Chenleâs family happens to be one of the most powerful families in the magic world, and they canât reveal what their powers are for their own protection. Haechan is just annoyed because his powers havenât awaken by now.âÂ
The rest of the shift went on like a regular day at the cafe. During cleanup, you stayed by Mark because he made you feel safe.
âI know I donât have powers like the other guys, but I still want to protect you. If you want someone to walk you home, stay over if youâre feeling scared, Iâm free,â Mark offered. You figured you could use all the protection you could get, so you agreed to have Mark stay over at your place.Â
You had gotten into a new routine with Mark. He slept on your sofa and only left you alone when he was going to the cafe in the mornings. He would finish his shift early in order to go back to your apartment and take you over to the college campus. After class, all the boys would escort you, but Mark always had his arm around your shoulders. Markâs presence was just so comforting for you. You spent all of your time in the cafe decorating cakes with Mark. You had gotten so good that some of your cakes were even up to Haechanâs tough standards. Mark was always by your side, and you didnât want it any other way.Â
You two even had movie nights on Fridays. You had gotten tired halfway through the movie, and rested your head on Markâs shoulders.
ây/n, you look so beautiful right now,â Mark whispered in your ears. Your heart pounded upon hearing his words. âI want you to be mine, y/n. I want to protect you for the rest of my life if it mean I get to be with the most wonderful person in the world all the time.âÂ
âI want you too Ma-â Before you could even finish your sentence, Mark pulled you in for a kiss.Â
âJust rest now baby,â Mark said. He kissed your forehead and carried you into your bed.Â
The next morning, you suggested that you and Mark should go to the cafe together in the morning. Mark was surprised to see you this eager to leave the house in the morning, but didnât question it at all.Â
When you reached the cafe, all the boys were shocked to see you there.Â
âWhatâs the big news? The last time you came to the cafe early, things werenât looking too good for you y/n,â Haechan said jokingly.
âOh, nothing big,â you said before giving Mark a peck on the lips. The dreamies erupted in screams.
âHear that Mark? Youâre ânothing bigâ according to y/n,â Jaemin teased as he slapped Mark on the back.
âYou said you were staying with y/n for protection, not to make out,â Renjun said.
âYouâd better use protection,â Jeno added.
âAll this time you said you were sleeping on the couch!â Jisung exclaimed.
âI was!â Mark said, finally trying to defend himself from the dreamies.
âHe probably got sick of the couch and wanted to try out the bed instead,â Haechan said with a smirk.
âOkay guys thatâs enough,â you said, hoping the teasing wouldnât go any further.Â
ây/nâs right. Markâs not the only one with important business to get done. Weâve got an event coming up next week,â Chenle started to say.
You zoned out at the talk of business and planning. You just knew that it was your job to wear a nice outfit and help out wherever Chenle needed you. After todayâs revelation, you were sure heâd keep you near Mark just to tease you two.Â
The day of the cafe event had finally arrived and you were excited to go to the cafe with Mark. But when you looked over at his pillow, he was gone. You were confused. You and Mark had agreed to go to the cafe together. You checked your phone and noticed that you had one unread message from Mark.Â
Mark: had to go to the cafe early, stay safe love
You figured that there was probably some extra preparations to be made and that it was nothing to worry about. You walked out to your living room to find youself face to face with Haechan.
âWoah, Haechan! You scared me! Did Mark send you here?â you asked.
Haechan smiled and said, âthatâs right, y/n. Get ready and weâll head out to the cafe.â
You got ready quickly, with the one thought of reuniting with Mark. You and Haechan headed out of your apartment and walked towards the cafe.
âDo you know why Mark left so early today? Was there an emergency or something?â you asked.Â
âYeah, you know how the guys are. They didnât realize their preparations werenât enough until this morning!â
When you two reached in front of the cafe, Haechan grabbed you hand and pulled you around the side of the cafe outside.
âItâs busy today. Weâre going to use the back entrance,â Haechan explained.
When the two of you were at the back of the cafe, Haechan pushed you to the ground.Â
âYou pathetic, little human. Iâve been waiting for my powers to awaken for years. When I set my eyes on you, I knew you were exactly the type of sacrifice. A person with no connection to magic having magical beings surround them. Iâve read about your type. Your presence is too strong. Youâre perfect kind for sacrifices.â
You began to cry as Haechan pulled out a knife.Â
âIf youâre string enough to draw in the guys, youâre sure as hell going to draw in my powers,â Haechan said with a menacing laugh. You screamed as the cold metal pierced your skin.
Haechan stabbed you in the leg and arm multiple times, and you could no longer keep your eyes open.Â
When you woke up, you saw Mark and the other boys, except for Haechan, standing around you. You looked around and realized that you were in a hospital bed.
âWhat happened?â you screamed at them.
âHaechan, he wrecked the cafe last night. All of our ingredients were gone. He left saying that he was going to buy ingredients for the cakes and then he broke into the apartment, and he got you, and oh y/n-â Mark said before he broke down crying.
âMark heard your screaming and we all rushed out back. When we got there, the ceremony had been completed and you were both passed out. Iâm really sorry y/n. We promised to protect you and-â
You cut Jisung off to laugh. The boys were visibly confused at your sudden mood change
âWhat are Haechanâs powers?â you asked.
âHeâs a healer,â Mark said.
âA real good one too. Iâm completely fine,â you said with a smile.
âOh my gosh, y/n! I was so scared I was going to lose you!â Mark said as he hugged you.
âWhen Haechan sacrificed me, he said my presence was too strong for me to just be a normal person. He was right. The sacrifice awakened some of my powers too,â you said.
âYouâve got magic in you?â Mark said as his jaw dropped.Â
âYeah, I had a vision of my own when I was knocked out.â
âWell, what did you see?â Mark asked eagerly.
âI saw us, Mark. I donât really want to go into details with the other guys around.â The dreamies burst into laughter upon hearing your vision.Â
âYou were right Renjun, your first vision is your most memorable,â Jaemin said with a huge smile on his face.
After you were discharged from the hospital, you and Haechan made amends and became friends again. You were both getting trainings on how to use your newfound powers. Your relationship with Mark was now stronger than ever now that there was nothing for you two to fear. The dreamies made sure to tease Mark about making your vision come true. You were happy with your new life, and you were especially happy to share it with Mark.

Your alarm rang at 7:15 am. You groaned as you turned it off, wondering why you made yourself suffer with such early morning classes. You were never able to get to class on time, yet you still picked the 8 am lectures every semester. You got ready and rushed out your apartment door to hopefully make it on time for once.Â
When you reached the lecture hall, class had already started, but you noticed that your friend Jisung was also making his way there.Â
âHey, Jisung. Itâs nice to not be the only one late,â you said as you opened the doors.
âYeah, the guys left me to clean up the cafe and I kind of lost track of time,â Jisung replied. The two of you took seats in the back of the class where you and the other guys typically hung out.
âHow does the cafe even make money if you guys are in class most of the time? Arenât you guys like, operating at a loss?â you asked.
âOoh, looks like someone was paying attention in economics,â Chenle said teasingly. âBut most of our customers are students, so our hours are actually very profitable.â
The cafe was called Cafe 7 Dream, and it was owned by Chenleâs parents. The cafe was practically as old as the boys, who referred to themselves as the dreamies. When they were in high school, they took over the cafe and rebranded it as Cafe 7 Dream. Though you frequented nearly every cafe in the town, you had never even heard of Cafe 7 Dream until you had met the boys.
ây/n, y/n,â Haechan said as he nudged your shoulder. âYouâre zoning out again. You have to focus so I can cheat off of you.â
âBut I was going to cheat off of you,â you replied as you pulled his hand off your shoulder.Â
After the class had finished, you and the dreamies were the first ones out. You were all standing around in the hallway outside the lecture hall.
âI should be getting back to the cafe now,â Mark said.
âMan, youâre so lucky youâre a senior. Youâve only got one class today,â Jisung said with envy.Â
âHonestly, I donât really need Calculus right? Iâve never had to find a derivative while making an americano. I think Iâll head to the cafe with Mark,â Jaemin said.
âLiterature is boring anyways. Iâm going to the cafe too,â Renjun added.
âIâm down to go to the cafe too. Why donât we all just skip today?â Jeno asked.
The boys were quick to agree with him.
âWhy donât you come along too, y/n?â Haechan asked. âItâll be fun and you look like you could use a coffee right now.â
âSounds great. Iâve been meaning to come around to your cafe too. I think the Starbucks employees have gotten sick of me,â you said with a laugh.
The cafe was just a short walk away from the campus, which explained why the boys managed to work before class started.
âYou guys mainly serve college students though, right? How are you going to make money now while everyoneâs in class?â you asked Chenle.
âYou underestimate how many kids skip class y/n,â Chenle said with a smirk.
Chenle unlocked the cafe and the boys quickly put on their uniforms and got to work in setting up the cafe.
âJisung! Ugh, I told you to clean this up before!â Haechan screamed at the young boy. There was a huge pile of spilt coffee and flour behind the counter.
âI swear I cleaned this up though,â Jisung said with a shocked face.
Haechan was clearly irritated, so you decided to step in before he took out his anger on Jisung.
âIâll clean it up. I should help out since Iâm not buying anything from you guys.âÂ
âDonât worry y/n, anything you have is on the house,â Chenle said with a smile. He too was trying to diffuse the situation, probably after seeing it get out of hand countless times before. âBut we could for sure use the help right now.â
You turned around to see a long line of students piling into the cafe. You realized why the boys skipped class to work at the cafe. The sales from one hour during lectures was probably more than other cafes saw for the whole day.
âAfter you clean up that mess, why donât you help make drinks with me, y/n?â Jeno offered. His face was a lot more serious than usual. The boys definitely took their jobs seriously at the cafe. Jisung grabbed some tissues from the back of the store and handed them to you. The two of you worked quickly and cleared out the mess so the other boys could work better. After it was cleaned up, Jisung walked towards the back door again.
âHey Jisung, where are you going? Donât you help serve customers?â you said with a confused face. The dreamies always made jokes about Jisungâs serving skills in class, so you assumed it was his job at the cafe.
âActually, I, uh, I keep stock of our ingredients in the back. It takes a long time and I prefer to work alone, so, uh,â Jisung said.
âOh, no problem Jisung, Iâm working with Jeno and Jaemin anyways,â you said with a smile. You knew the boy could be awkward so you decided to just give him his space.Â
âGood luck with that,â Jisung replied as he went into the back.
You shifted your attention to Jeno and Jaemin, who were making drinks at the speed of light.
âWow, this looks like a lot of work,â you exclaimed.
âItâs no big deal y/n. Just grind, tamp, and pull your shots,â Jaemin said.
You followed along with Jaemin, who seemed to work like a robot. His movements were so routine, you wondered if he was one with the expresso machine. You on the other hand, were very much out of place. You worked slowly and forgot the steps in the middle of the process.
âThis is exhausting, Jaemin. How do you do it?â you asked as you wiped the sweat off your forehead. Jaemin didnât respond or even break out of his shots cycle.Â
âHeâs in a whole different world right now. Thereâs no use in even talking to him right now,â Jeno said. âIf youâre looking for something easier, you can help me out.â
Jeno explained to you the process of mixing the fruit drinks, which was much easier as he had promised. Eventually, the two of you got into a routine. He did the blending and you pumped in the flavoring syrup.Â
âWow, you two work perfectly together,â Chenle said as he walked over to you and Jeno. âBut mixing drinks is kind of easy anyways, so Jeno doesnât really need the help. Mark and Haechan are kind of in a situation though.â
âWhatâs going on with them?â you asked.
âTheyâre arguing over sprinkles. This morning, it was flour. I donât know what it is, but Haechan has kind of been on the edge recently, so Iâd really appreciate it if you saved the cafe from being destroyed right now.â
âSure thing,â you said as you walked over to where Mark and Haechan were standing.
ây/n! Mark wants to put pink sprinkles on a yellow cake. Like, how horrendous would that be? Are you trying to put us out of business Mark?â Haechan said as swung an icing knife in his hand.
âIâll finish up the cake with Mark, okay? Why donât you go and check up on some of the customers?â you said, hoping he would take the bait and get away from you and Mark.
âYouâre right y/n, those kids better pay up. I donât care if theyâre broke. I need my paycheck,â Haechan said as he walked over to the tables.
âThank you so much y/n. I just suggested pink and he totally blew up and-â
âYeah Mark, donât worry about it. Letâs just make this cake the way Haechan wants it and hopefully itâll calm him down a bit.â
You and Mark worked together to decorate the cakes. Some of them were messy, but you and Mark had fun working together regardless. You put all the messy cakes in boxes so Haechan wouldnât see how âhorrendousâ they looked.
When Haechan had finished talking to all the customers, he walked over to you and Mark again.
âWow, you guys even boxed up nearly all the cakes! Thanks for working with Mark y/n, you really helped speed things up! Iâll take over from here. You can go over where Renjun is sitting and relax,â Haechan said.
Not wanting to irritate him, you listened to Haechan and walked over to the table where Renjun was sitting.
âWhat are you up to, Renjun?â you said with a smile before you sat down across from him.Â
âIâm designing a poster for an upcoming event at the cafe. Chenleâs parents invited a whole bunch of people to come, and Iâm in charge of getting some actual paying customers to come.â
âNeed any help?â you asked. You secretly hoped that Renjun didnât need any help, as you were exhausted with working with the other boys.Â
âNope, Iâm fine. Your company is really nice though,â Renjun said without looking up from his laptop. You spent the rest of the shift with Renjun, occasionally telling him stories to ease any akwardness between you two.
After the boys had gotten the last of their customers out the store, they started cleaning up the cafe. âCleaningâ was mainly just the other boys telling Jisung what to do and Jisung frantically trying to keep up with all the commands. After that was over, the boys cut a cake to celebrate another sucessful day at the cafe. You ate the cake with them and told them about all the fun you had while working with them.Â
It became a habit of yours to go the cafe with the boys after class. You had starting skipping you classes every day just to go to the cafe. Some days you just sat with Renjun and talked. Other days you were making drinks with Jeno. You had even learned how to work the expresso machine almost as well as Jaemin. Whatever you were doing, you were just happy to be at the cafe with the dreamies.Â

You and Kun had become close friends through your mutual friend, Ten. Ten invited you and Kun out for lunch practically every week. This week was no different.
When you heard you phone ringing, you knew it could only be one person.Â
âHey y/n, can you meet us at the cafe in ten minutes,â Ten asked over the phone.
âSure,â you replied, already dressed and ready to head out of your home. You had grown fond of you little meet ups with Ten, especially since it meant you could meet Kun. Kun was a pilot and always had the most interesting stories to tell you. You could listen to him for hours about what it was like to be in the clouds.
Usually when you arrived at the cafe, you could easily spot Ten and Kun since Kun typically came in his uniform. This week however, he was wearing a hoodie with jeans. Even with the outfit change, your eyes were naturally drawn to Kun.
You walked over to their table and jokingly said, âLooking good Kun. Whatâs the special occasion?â
Ten giggled and slapped your arm as you sat down between the two of them.
âIâm actually on my first vacation in weeks, so thatâs why Iâm dressed casually today,â Kun replied with a smile.
âItâs your vacation man! Donât you want to go anywhere?â you asked.
âWell since Iâm in the air most of the time, I didnât really plan on doing much travelling for my vacation. I was just hoping on relaxing,â Kun said after taking a sip of his americano.
âDude, youâre like, obsessed, with flying though. How are you going to mange staying away from the only love of your life?â Ten asked with a snicker.
âWell there was this one thing I was planning on doing, you know, to relax my nerves,â Kun said as he rubbed the back of his neck. âSkydiving.â
âSkydiving is supposed to be relaxing?â you said with a raised eyebrow. âQian Kun, you really are obsessed.âÂ
âIâm not going to go anyways. One of my friends from the aviation academy has his own skydiving business, but most of his clients are couples.â
âSo youâre afraid of looking like a wuss if you go alone,â Ten said with a smile.
âIâm not a wu-â
âWhy donât you just take y/n?â Ten said as he cut off Kun.Â
âWhat do you think about that, y/n?â Kun said with a hopeful smile.
âI donât know Kun,â you said as you frowned. âIt seems kind of dangerous.â Kun flashed his smile at you, and you just couldnât say no to that handsome face. âBut since I trust you, sure,â you said reluctantly.
Kunâs eyes lit up upon hearing your answer.
âItâll be wonderful y/n, donât worry. Iâve got to run. Iâll pick you up tomorrow,â Kun said as he got up from his seat and left the cafe.
You looked over at Ten with a confused face.Â
âWhat was that all about? Heâs on vacation but he has to run?â you said confused.
Ten didnât reply but instead drank his coffee with a smirk on his face.
Later that night, Kun texted you the details for your little adventure together. The next morning, he arrived on time with a bright look on his face. Kun walked you over to his car and opened the door for you to get in.Â
âIâve never seen you this happy before,â you said with a smile.
Kun slipped into the driverâs seat and replied, âIâm just excited to skydive, thatâs all.â
You could tell that there was more to his words, but you decided to simply enjoy the car ride before you plummeted from the sky.
The two of you arrived at what looked like a makeshift airport rather quickly. It was probably because of Kunâs pre adrenaline rush speeding, but you didnât bring it up. You had never seen Kun this happy before and you didnât want to ruin his mood.Â
After Kun finished filling out the paperwork, he brought you over all the gear you needed. You changed you clothes and then entered the plane with Kun.
After a few minutes of flying, you asked Kun, âarenât we supposed to watch a safety video first or something?âÂ
âDonât worry, Iâm a pilot,â Kun said as he slipped his arm around your shoulders.
âIâve never done this before.â
âFirst time for everything,â Kun replied with a shrug.
âDo you think Iâll get a second time?â you asked with wide eyes.
âOf course weâll go on more dates.â
âWhat?â you exclaimed with your mouth agape.
âWell I was going to ask you out after we reached the ground, but I couldnât help myself.â Kun looked like he was overflowing with joy. âSkydiving is a lot more fun when you do it with your girlfriend.âÂ
You were completely shocked when you heard what Kun said.
âOh, wait, I didnât even ask yet,â Kun said with a chuckle. âWill you date me y/n?âÂ
âOf course, but you didnât have to drag me thousands of feet in the air to ask.â
âLike I said baby, youâre going to have to get used to this. Itâs time for us to jump anyways.â
With Kunâs guidance, you safely jumped out the plane and landed on the ground.
âKun, oh my gosh, that was exhilarating,â you said as you ran to give him a hug.
âI knew youâd love it,â he said as he pulled you in to his chest.
You looked up at Kun and asked, âyou knew how to skydive all along, didnât you? The whole âcouplesâ thing was just a scheme, right?â
âYeah, I made it up. Ten was kind of right about me being a wuss though. Iâve been meaning to ask you out from the moment we met.â
