These protest organizers are relatively unknown to and have refused support or resources from experienced, more established Black organizers in Ottawa, their volunteer forms require personal information which is almost unheard of for this type of action, the instagram page appears to be following people back, the police is WELL aware of all the details because they were contacted, it’s being promoted on local media and there doesn’t appear to be safety planning in terms of reaching out to lawyers/setting up bail funds/advising people on how to evade surveillance/having trained protesters there.

It is NOT recommended you attend but if you do, bring your own masks, don’t volunteer any personal information, don’t go alone, and have a plan in place. And unfollow the nopeaceuntiljusticeottawa instagram page.

Since that posts was made, some further updates have been posted on the No Peace Until Justice Facebook page and Instagram since then that may or may not address some concerns people have about the event. However, many people in the comments have concerns that don’t seem to be getting addressed at this time. If you’re planning on going, this may be worth keeping an eye on.

Seems pretty sure by now though that police will be there, and the mayor has stated he will be attending, which has been in the media.

Frontline First, who were previously partnering with No Peace Until Justice are currently distancing themselves from the organizers. However, they have left up heir general safety and health protocol handbook on their Instagram to encourage anyone still attending to take precautions in regards to COVID-19.

A 26-year-old Indigenous woman from British Columbia was fatally shot by a police officer she allegedly threatened during a wellness check in a northwestern New Brunswick city early Thursday.

Family of Chantel Moore say she had recently moved east from British Columbia to live near her mother and daughter.

Her death came at a time of heightened attention on police actions and practices in the United States and Canada following the death of George Floyd in Minneapolis.

The Edmundston Police Force says an officer went to a downtown apartment building prompted by a call around 2:30 a.m. AT to perform a wellness check.

Nora Martin, Moore’s great-aunt, told CBC News that a former boyfriend of Moore who lives in Toronto had asked police to check on her. Martin said he was concerned because she had been harassed after moving to a new apartment in the city.
