Had breakfast with my folks the other day
what on earth is it that possesses thin people to go onto any post where a fat person is being vulnerable/discussing insecurities and feelings of undesirability/having a VERY serious discussion about eating disorders/etc. etc. and open up the replies to go "wow this is so real and beautiful. can relate on the opposite end because i've always been skinny. always been really skinny and small and thin so i relate except the opposite, on account of because i'm small (unlike you) so it's the same thing i think. i tried soooo hard to gain weight but the pounds just don't wanna stick! lol. people tell me 'eat a burger!' which hurts, because i like being small and skinny and petite and little and i think it's so beautiful that i'm thin. just thought a different perspective might be helpful live laugh love xo"
like idk how to communicate to this kind of person that what sucks about fatphobia is not so much "people say mean stuff sometimes" as it is not having any positive role models; never receiving any affirmation for physical achievements that's not tied to the idea of you losing weight; being conditioned to believe that your body size and shape are not just in need of change, but a marker of fundamental bad-ness; being often unable to convince healthcare providers to treat you for disordered eating; being unable to seek treatment for non-weight related illnesses without being largely ignored; employment discrimination; housing discrimination; education discrimination; greater standards for gender performance; uncertainty that literally any venue or business will accommodate your body type; difficulty finding clothing and significantly higher prices when you do; public harassment up to and including being stalked, filmed, doxxed, and assaulted; being made to feel actively unsafe in many public spaces and (ime) especially at gyms; being kept as a sexual "secret" for others, and the staggering level of abuse which that arrangement subjects people to; higher rates of intimate and sexual abuse coupled with difficulty in reporting and being believed; et cetera. different magnitudes

trying to teach myself emotional regulation after a lifetime of being taught (mostly through violence) that the only mature way to handle my emotions is to not feel them at all is i'll admit a little hysterical. every day i have to hold my own hand and go now are you going to be a big boy and acknowledge your feelings? it's okay if you don't acknowledge all of them but i need you to at least try alright? if you finish acknowledging your feelings we can go out for ice cream shakes later, how does that sound?

the dichotomy between the "immigrant" (someone from the global south who moves to the north) and the "expat" (someone from the global north who moves to the south) makes me feel fucking crazy. a white person who moves to asia is an expat but an asian who moves to the west is an immigrant. & how those terms are politicized and assigned class statuses, like the word "immigrant" tends to imply a blue collar worker (even if that isn't the case) while "expat" implies a white collar worker. the associations with "expat neighbourhoods" in asian countries is very very different from those of "immigrant neighbourhoods" in western nations. also how "immigrants" who dont assimilate are seen as "failing" and bad, lower class, a burden on society, etc. whereas "expats" not assimilating into local culture is expected and viewed as a sign of their higher status. the double standards are so insane
IM TALKING ABOUT ASIA???
i don't know how many times i can say to europeans in the notes "these words have political connotations associated with race, class, and national origin outside of the most literal linguistic definitions and i am specifically talking about how these are used in the (southeast) asian context but this also applies in varying ways around the world because racism and classism are global phenomenons" before they stop replying to this post with 'uhm actually as a german who moved to chile i consider myself an immigrant this must be an english-ism or americanism, it's linguistically incorrect' because i'm going to start getting mean for real soon
To be clear, the creator of that fangame is legitimately a lawyer.
enamored lately with an asmr channel i stumbled upon on youtube that’s literally just a sweet korean lady pretending to give her enormous ragdoll cat (who she pretends is a famous and wealthy cat actress) extravagant spa treatments that are wildly, wildly overpriced (because the cat is rich)
it’s fine she’s good for it
Haitian-American Drag King Dred was one of the most prominent Drag Kings to emerge from the dynamic drag scene of New York City during the late 1990’s. Dred embodied the term “gender bender” long before it became common parlance. Moving with ease from male to female and showcasing an array of characters within one medley made Dred’s performances mesmerizing to say the least. Dred blurred and blended gender lines; made you question masculinity, sexuality, identity; challenged racial, social, gender stereotypes; and provided memorable, world class entertainment.

Professionalism is performance art. It’s like security theatre, humility theatre, eagerness theatre, humanitarian theatre etc all wrapped into one.
Faking neutrality….that’s killing me rn. I want to run my mouth so bad.
I feel like there's two levels of chronically online. There's like, the variety where you recognize obscure memes and stupid drama and post constantly but have some sort of tether to reality and have friends in the real world and read the news from time to time, and then there's the kind where you genuinely don't realize that your political position or feelings about popular media are not just non-mainstream but actively fringe and that it's not emotional labor to pick people up from the airport.
may I suggest?

"Will you free my Palestine"
Sticker spotted in Brunswick, Victoria
The person behind the Martyrs of Gaza account account just posted that their daughter was martyred in November.
The text:
Noor, my daughter, was the only one who held my heart in this world. Her story was different from other girls.
Noor Al-Fara, 13 years old.
She had dreams for the future and was planning to achieve things beyond her age. She lived in her own world, with thoughts and interests that were unique. Whenever someone met her, whether a woman or a man, they would sit with her, chat, and say, "This girl is extraordinary. Mashallah, she seems like a university student, not a child who hasn't even turned 14." Indeed, when they said this, we realized that we are not just numbers. We have souls and bodies, and we have dreams that we want to fulfill in the future. It was as if she sensed that her time in this world was limited, but her dreams were grand, so she raced against time to achieve as much as she could.
As soon as she entered the house, she would start talking as if she had been away from me for a week. She would share many details about herself, her friends, teachers, and school news.
She was an icon at school; she felt like the center of attention among the students. She participated in all academic and non-academic activities, and she was a dynamo at home, on the street, and at school with her friends.
On November 7th, 2023, at 6 o'clock in the morning, the Israeli occupation aircraft bombed the entire square in front of the Farhana School in Khan Younis, and Noor was martyred. Oh God, she left a great void. My life turned into an empty desert after her, despite the crowdedness around us.
