nightmare never forgets to protect hornet's sleep, but as he's the only one who can unlike the reactive grimm, if hornet is sleeping and nightmare is unaware of it obviously he can't help. so he's most consistent and able to when she's with them or traveling with the troupe, but when they're in separate locations it's not as easy for him to notice.

(in the troupe au, since she's never far from them and always connected via heart, her sleep is always protected even if he's unaware. this perk is shared with all members that have nightmare's blessing.)

so in those instances, when he's unable to prevent them or take them once formed, hornet does wake up a bit frazzled depending on the intensity. since she's so resilient it's not often that a bad dream is going to ruin her morning or break any mask of being okay. hornet is okay. she's not on the cusp of a breakdown or totally needing a break. she represses things of course, but mental collapse is nowhere close to her.

if she's had a particularly bad week and has a particularly bad dream, she might curl closer into herself for a bit until she feels a little less weak and then she's up and going about her day. especially when she's on her own and there's no one like grimm to poke at her sensitive spots until she says how she's feeling.

hornet doesn't ever wonder why this had to be her life. in canon she directly states she's grateful for her life despite the ills of the world and remarks on the beauty of it in silksong — on top of always practicing self preservation. sometimes the ache of loss or physical injury gets her down, but it's never so dramatic.

(this would be a little different in the troupe au, at first, but she ultimately comes back around to the same sentiment. even though her life in that au is very, very different from what she was used to and had imagined for herself, it's still a life and she can still make the most of it. but in that au she can't have nightmares so any "why does this have to be the life i lead" would be prompted by more general weariness or situations. definitely does happen early on and grimm would do well to not bring it up if he notices her.)

would he have opinions on the weavers? sure. he'd see their tragedy and subsequent abuse as unfortunate but it's nothing new. he's traveled many kingdoms and seen many a bug in dire straits or tribes totally wiped out, their fault or not. part of what he does when he cleanses kingdoms is learn of their most unfortunate, their songs and dances and history, and makes way for new beginnings. it's common that the peoples he learns of aren't there to see that new beginning.

their tragedy really is what he thinks on most and that their passing of the burden onto the common bug was inevitable. they are, after all, their mother's children. her rage and cruelty and beastliness and self preservation are all traits they took upon themselves, by being elevated from the common bug it was natural that some would act as she did even if they were unaware of it.

so there's a sympathy and understanding, but it's nothing particularly deep given their separation of history and death. he, too, is a created child of a higher being but beyond that simple fact he feels no kinship to the weavers. he has the most emotion towards the weavers of deepnest who tried to leave and of course had hornet (which he is grateful for, but understands the original intention was for her to be a weapon and not daughter). he knows the cost that one bears when a higher being is in one's environment, if not from his own experience, then the countless civilizations he's seen.
