a gift from silas? it’s not that is was so unusual of a thing, a gift of sorts, from her friend. chloe just didn’t know what it could possibly be. it wasn’t her birthday or christmas or some special occasion. the curiosity was what was getting her through those last few hours of work. as soon as her shift was up, she went to meet him. “okay, so what’s this thing you wanted to give me? you’ve had me curious all day.” she chuckled. 

During Silas’ tour overseas, he stumbled across a little shop that sold crystals and various stones. He had always been rather interested in the different stones and what they supposedly helped with. In his pocket was a medium sized black box with an amethyst bracelet. He knew Chloe wasn’t necessarily a big fan of jewelry, but when he saw it, he was drawn to it. At the sound of his best friend’s voice, he spun around and chuckled at her anxious behavior. “Really? You expect me to give it to you right away? Aren’t you hungry? You did just get off work.” 

“Data isn’t going to help me. This whole thing is really stupid. People have things to do that really can’t be put off.”

“I, uh--” Silas didn’t know what to do or say and he wasn’t very good with dealing with people yet. He was trying, but since he had been back from war, he just didn’t know what to do or say to anyone. He felt anxious and took on the demeanor of an abused dog. “I was just trying...”

chloe: hm afraid not

chloe: oo a present?

chloe: well i get off work here in a few, so i'll see you then?

“The internet is out everywhere. Do you have any solutions for that?”

“I do not. I don’t even use the internet half of the time when it works. Maybe get more data? I hear my sister cursing about data all the time.”

“That’s really smart– I wish my landlord had thought of something like that. Looks like we’re going to be out of power for a while, unfortunately. Not that I really need to charge anything.”

“You don’t have a cell phone or anything? I just have a silly flip phone. It does the job. I’d be happy without one, except my mom would kill me.”

“For real? God… You guys have always been so generous. Uh… Could I charge my phone? It’s basically dead and I don’t want people to worry that I’m well, you know, dead.”

“It’s the least we can do.” Silas shrugged. “Of course. You can charge anything you need to.”

Z: You'll like this one. Not that you have much choice. Unless you want everyone to know everything you've been hiding since you got back to Granier.

I’m not really into games.

chloe: it's just common knowledge by now :)

chloe: ok, ok, give me a hint

silas: darn, i thought i was keeping it hidden well.

silas: i got you something

chloe: is it that i'm your best friend???

chloe: oh wait i already knew that

chloe: hmmm, what could it be?

silas: WHO TOLD?!

Silas: Hey Chloe, guess what?

Silas: You're never going to guess it.

Silas: I know you'll never guess it.

I like the Supernatural episodes, but I think True Crime has to be my favorite. I do like when they actually go to the locations, though– Bobby Mackey’s is probably my favorite. Or maybe when they go to New Orleans, for the Axeman episode. 

Definitely– are you staying in town for long?

Some of the True Crime episodes are good, but I get enough of that watching the news. Yes, New Orleans and Axeman are both really good. Have you watched the Ruining History episodes? Those are cool, too. I couldn’t get into the sports one, just doesn’t interest me enough.

Well, I’m glad I’m not the only one who has no self control when it comes to that series. I’m a little behind, but whenever I do get around to watching, it’s all of them at once.  

I keep rewatching the Supernatural episodes. The last season especially. I’m not sure why I love the ones where they went to London so much. And Goat Man Bridge. Next season, we’ll have to marathon it, okay?

chloe knew silas was in town and did want to visit him. but it was complicated. well in her own mind it was. thanks to amber, she had visited the conroy house quite often, leading her to become close friends with silas. but she had also always felt something more for the boy, never wanting to ruin the friendship, she kept that to herself. when he had gone to war, she wanted to tell him, but she couldn’t do that to him. that would’ve just complicated everything. now here he was, back in town. only to leave again in a couple of days. she really didn’t think she could handle him leaving again. 

she decided not seeing him at all would probably be something she regretted. so she pushed her feelings aside and went to meet him. she greeted him with a small smile, “hey, silas.”, was all she could let out. 

Before Silas had joined the military, he had never left Granier. His parents--while fearful for his safety--wanted him to see the world and have the chance to see things he never would with them. What they had never actually planned on was him actually going into battle. Silas wanted nothing more than to save the world, and he saw this as his chance. He had left a carefree, spunky boy, but came home much quieter and distant. Way more in his head than he had been before and now he had night terrors when he would actually sleep. 

Silas had been keeping to himself and his family for the most part on his return home; he was afraid to see other people as he wasn’t very much up to company, but there was one person he had mixed feelings about seeing: Chloe. On the one hand, she had always been the one person outside of his family that he dared to call his best friend. He had other friends throughout his life, but they had come and gone. Even before he went away, she made him feel more himself. But on the other hand, he feared seeing her because he wasn’t who he used to be. He didn’t want her to see how broken he now was, and he didn’t want to say ‘goodbye’ again. 

Fate decided for him, when he looked up from the book he was reading and saw the young girl approaching him. He placed the book to the side and smiled at her, though it wasn’t a large smile, it was genuine. “Hi, Chlo,” he replied. “I was meaning to see come see you, but I didn’t want to get in the way if you were busy, or anything.” Okay, only a sorta lie, that’s not that bad, right?
