Significantly Other

Let me start out by saying I'm not a runner. Never have been. My GF's nursing class decided to do a 5k run/walk as a class fundraiser though so I got a buddy and we signed up. Planned on training more than I did, but I usually run/walk outside then go swimming. The 100 degree heat and humidity in the GA summer ment not alot of run time. LoL

Anyways had the run this morning. We got up at 5 cause my GF and I were getting there early to help setup. Me and 5 am on a Saturday don't mix. My GF is the same way though, and we drug ourselves out.

They did it at a local community park area with sports fields, playground equipment and stuff. It has a cross country track that runs around the park. Our course setup was 5k though the track seemed much bigger. Track was pretty well cleared out, but had it's share of hills. Started out like a lot of people including my buddy and ran to fast for the first 1k or so(about the 1st mile). Got hillier from there, and I did my fair share of walking. I also made the mistake at the drink station to take the blue Poweraid/Gatoraid as I just grabbed a cup going by verses water. Next little bit was like ugh might puke that up.

Made it though, and my buddy who finished ahead came around to run the last couple hundred meters to push me to the finish.

Despite being a 5k they had miles marked on the course. 5k is roughly like 3.2  miles. Did my 1st mile in 12 mins and change. Got to the 2nd mile and looked at this chick and was like I'm sucking and don't even wanna know my time. She was like well almost done! Only 1.2 more miles to go!

Finished at 47 mins. Yes that is slow, but I'm happy for my first time. It is gonna be an annual thing so I want to be around 30 mins next year. My buddy did it in like 30 mins and change. They had the men's and women's track team from my GF's school and they were the fastest. Best overall time was a cross country track girl that did it in 17mins. Totally smoked me! 

Oh well twas fun, and good exercise! My gf didn't run, but was tasked to take pics on the trail as well as be a guide/watcher in case of issues. I'll post pics later after she uploads them if anyone cares!

Letter from Steve Jobs

So this week thanks to general day dreaming as well as browsing the NeoGAF Official Headphone Thread I've decided I think I'd like to try and snag something new to carry around in my backpack. No not headphones (though a new pair would be nice!), but rather a portable headphone amp. Granted I'm not talking about anything to high end here. Plus I'm looking to use it with my Windows Phone, Samsung Focus, as well as my CR-48. I'd also try and put it to good use with the PSVita on down the road.

It also helps (or doesn't help if I'm in I don't need to spend money mode) that the reputable headphone amplifier company FiiO has a new portable model coming to the market soon. Their new E6 mode (pictured bellow) seems on the surface to be an E5 repacked for a more modern look and feel.  Looking a bit deeper though as I found over at the HeadFi Forums it appears they might share a little more in common with it's older sibling the E7.

Granted my GF questions the usefulness of getting one for what I'd being using it for, but I think the key here is the reasonable pricing. It seems to be around $28 + shipping and comes with the amp, usb charging cable, two clips, and two cables. Not bad for the package itself. It also sports a 10 hour rechargeable battery life. The innards themselves are a little deceiving. The amp itself is the same TPA6130 that powered the E5. The difference comes in the power supply which switches from single power to +/- this go round. It also comes with 3 different EQ settings that each light up on the indicator a different color. They also dropped the metal finish and went with plastic. While that might sound like a downgrade for some in terms of durability it cuts the weight down to 16g. Plus it helps that ClieOS who's known in the headphone world seems to like it thus far!

It's Pottermore Time! I, the Kevin half of the Significantly other blog, got the right convergence of moments today that I got pass the new Harry Potter site called Pottermore being over run with traffic, found the 5th clue, answer the riddle, and eventually figured out how to get the link to come up in the address I had worked out. Hint for all of you Potter Fans doing this, but make sure to turn off ad blockers if you have them turned on. The Quill Banner won't show when you finally riddle yourself out the correct link to go to.
