basically, i'll try to keep this brief about patronuses. specifically,
stag patronuses.
the first thing we know is that, for animagi, the patronus matches their animagus form. [purely theoretically, yes, an animagus's patronus could probably change, but as far as we know, we don't actually have any confirmation of that]
since James's patronus matches his animagus form, that means it's his original patronus.
his patronus never changed.
Rowling also said that this [Potter’s Patronuses] wasn't a coincidence, and that patronuses can change because of love.
Chely: James patronus is a stag and lilys a doe is that a coincidence? J.K. Rowling: No, the Patronus often mutates to take the image of the love of one's life (because they so often become the 'happy thought' that generates a Patronus). 30 July 2007 Bloomsbury live chat with J.K. Rowling
accordingly, Lily's patronus changed because of James's patronus.
what else do we know about the patronus itself?
the patronus charm is an extremely advanced spell, far beyond O.W.L. level. and by "far beyond", i mean it simply isn't taught at school. [the only reason Harry was taught it at all was because the dementors had been brought into Hogwarts. that's literally the whole reason]
we also know that the Order of the Phoenix used patronuses extensively as a means of communication, which explains why, from what we know, all of its members were able to produce one.
we also know that NONE of the Death Eaters use patronuses.
so, based on all of this, Lily and James would have learned to produce their patronuses after joining the Order of the Phoenix, because it wasn't part of the Hogwarts curriculum.
at the same time, Severus most likely couldn't produce a patronus at all before the age of 21. again, because it wasn't taught at school, it doesn't seem like the sort of magic that would have interested him, and, as a Death Eater, he obviously wouldn't have had any reason to practise it.
after joining the Order, however, he would have learned the spell.
there's one more thing we know about patronuses. in the original writing that was first published on Pottermore, it's stated that a patronus may change because of powerful emotions, such as falling in love, bereavement, or a profound shift in a person's character.
The form of a Patronus may change during the course of a witch or wizard’s life. Instances have been known of the form of the Patronus transforming due to bereavement, falling in love or profound shifts in a person’s character.
when Severus casts a patronus for the first time, the emotion he's experiencing is bereavement. that word wasn't included there by accident.
that's all.
// and no, i absolutely do not believe that the doe was Snape's original patronus, because it suits him as poorly as it possibly could.
imho, headcanon whatever you like, but i'll never agree with that interpretation.
barty’s animagus form is a vulture. enough said
just explained the patronus charm to my dad and the irony behind remus’s name and patronus, and i was looked at like i’m crazy (maybe i am who knows)
Lunar Sanctum
🌕 Chapter 25 — “The Second Chance”
The bird of memory
In many traditions, ravens are associated with:
▫️ memory ▫️ bearing witness to the past ▫️ never forgetting
Draco’s greatest struggle is that he can’t let go of the past.
He lives surrounded by guilt, memories, and mistakes.
His journey isn’t about forgetting.
It’s about learning how to live with what he remembers.
The observer
A raven isn’t a predator in the traditional sense.
It’s intelligent.
Patient.
Observant.
Draco isn’t a warrior.
He’s a strategist.
A watcher.
A symbol of the shadow
Ravens are often connected with darkness, death, and transformation.
But they’re rarely symbols of evil.
More often, they’re guides—creatures that exist between worlds.
Just like Draco, who stands between two lives:
the person he used to be,
and the person he’s trying to become.
An invisible connection to Luna
Luna is a character defined by air and light.
Which means Draco’s Patronus quite literally exists within her element.
Ravens are also creatures of mystery.
That’s what Draco gradually becomes.
Not a hero.
Not a villain.
A mystery.
And that’s exactly how the other students begin to see him:
someone they can’t quite understand,
but can’t stop trying to figure out.
A symbol of survival
Ravens are scavengers.
That may sound harsh, but symbolically it means they survive where others cannot.
Draco survived a catastrophe.
Now he lives among the ruins of his past,
simply trying to keep moving forward.

Thinking back to how patronus are made and cant help but think how it wouldnt work for me. There are so many bad memories, they infected the good. When I think back to being happy all I feel is a could of sadness hanging over it. Would a patronus be affected by a wizards depression?
I think the closest feeling to happy i can feel in that situation would be content, is that the goal?
HP Canon pisses me off so bad bc what do you mean death eaters are inherently considered evil and therefore can’t produce a patronus. Hate to break it to you twin but even bad people can be happy. also no one is inherently evil, get fucked
I feel SO GOOD about myself rn.
I don't support Harry Potter because of J.K. Rowling but I love Drarry and so i wanted to see my house and my patronus and i literally got my favorite house and favourite animal, I didn't even know sharks were an option
