thinking about this more lately and i'm not necessarily saying it was intentionally orchestrated or a conscious decision but the officials very evidently singling chick out does make me wonder if, on chick's part at least, this was a satisfaction of said theatric role just for lack of any other route for him to go. it's never suggested that chick was ever suspended or penalized or black flagged or what-have-you-race-terms for anything he did, because wrecking the king was the most egregious thing and yet his championship was never revoked for that. and despite what cars youtubers and fan wikis would have you believe, chick was still racing after 2005. so does that say it's at least partially intentional? like sure he's an asshole but he's way more entertaining to watch because he's an asshole. and when that's reinforced then it perpetuates as long as you want it to and your viewership keeps racking up. or maybe chick hicks is just really fun to be mean to?
