I have a headcannon that throughout Alex's entire life, he always knew something bad was going to happen to him. Like, he didn't know why, but he always had the feeling he was going to die at a young age. We can see how much emphasis he puts on luck (not wanting his dad to rip off the old boarding tag), how he becomes uncomfortable of the idea of the future, and how he seems withdrawn from his classmates. It's very different from the other visionaries, who seemingly never had that feeling until the moments leading up to their promotion.
