                     ・   。   ◟      there’s    foolishness    that’s    written    into    tear    stained    cheeks    ,    but    she    remains    seated    on    the    steps    of    her    cabin    with    red    rimmed    eyes    while    festivities    take    place    .    most    of    the    cabins    are    empty    ,    people   love    their    gods    &    their    excuses    to    get    drunk    on    godly    wine    ;    dana    ,    can    still    remember    her    last    hecatomb    at    camp    -    before    everything    turned    to    shit    &    she    was    left    with    a    sour    reminder    .    grey    eyes    steel    ,    focus    waning    in    &    out    of    the    green    while    she    thinks    of    a    reason    (    any    reason    at    all    )    to     𝒔𝒕𝒂𝒚    (    she’s    been    thinking    since    the    day    began    ,    there    hasn’t    been    a    single    one    yet    )    .   ❝                   i    think    mr.    d’s    giving    out    some    wine    in    the    mess    hall    .   ❞    she    says    to    a    passing    camper    .    ❝                   &    i    know    i    haven’t    done    much    ,    but    could    you    get    me    a    glass    or    two    ?   ❞

        there’s a slight frown as morrigan pauses ─  not at dana exactly, but more at the idea of going back towards the festivities right then. she did have an alternative option, though it was one that would mean she would eventually have to make her way back. “i’m heading the other way, but... give me two minutes, and watch this for me.” she sets a thermos down beside the other demigod, along with a plate of what seemed to be scraps from the feast.         she’s gone for little more than a minute, thankful that nothing was ever far from were she wanted it in the hecate cabin. she’s got two glasses in hand and what seems to be an over-excited ball of black fluff bouncing around her feet as she makes her way back over, offering a cup once she’s seated next to dana. “i’ll get a lecture if we’re caught with this, but seems like you could use it. there should be a bottle’s worth in the thermos.”

             .・。.・゜☆ .・☾   brooklyn  was  someone  who  rarely  slept  between  the  hours  she  was  supposed  to .  this  meant  she  had  a  lot  of  time  to  herself ,  which  usually  led  to  invention .  she  and  morrigan  were  the  only  ones  who  could  do  the  kind  of  magic  you  see  in  movies ,  their  mom  gifting  them  with  talents  of  their  own  all  the  same .  the  younger  girl  took  it  upon  herself  to  know  everything  she  could  know  about  five  years  ago ,  after  her  lack  of  ability  was  the  direct  cause  in  loss  of  life .  “ i  was  inspired  by  some  of  my  demeter  friends ,  started  working  on  things  a  little  bit  more  heavy . ”  she  hinted  at  what  her  ideas  were ,  the  inspiration  really  being  andromeda ,  her  singular  attachment  to  the  demeter  cabin .

       the implications weren’t lost on morrigan ─  she knew her sister well enough to have an idea of what she meant, even if she hadn’t been around at the time of the event in question. “heavy means we might wanna find somewhere a bit more secluded than just the woods or the cabin, maybe somewhere a bit darker.” it was never too hard to find somewhere decent to do magic but practicing something new, especially something big, was best done in the dark and away from people that could wind up hurt.

          𝖙𝖍𝖊𝖗𝖊'𝖘  𝖆  𝖈𝖊𝖗𝖙𝖆𝖎𝖓  𝖑𝖊𝖛𝖊𝖑  𝖔𝖋  𝖈𝖔𝖒𝖋𝖔𝖗𝖙  that  can  be  found  in  a  person  with  shared  experiences  ——  experiences  of  life  &  death  ,  the  good  &  the  bad  .  people  like  morrigan  filled  him  with  that  feeling  of  comfort  ,  because  they  faced  the  good  and  bad  together  .  making  it  through  a  quest  without  finding  trouble  is  unlikely  ,  each  member  a  beacon  drawing  in  monsters  with  the  thirst  to  kill  ——  to  kill  the  children  of  the  GODS  .  so  it  wasn’t  uncommon  for  him  to  seek  her  out  in  their  day - to - day  routines  at  camp  .  sometimes  even  to  rid  his  mind  from  his  own  inner  demons  .  for  him  ,  these  demons  could  be  as  little  as  a  competition  that  saw  him  on  the  losing  side  ,  something  he  could  barely  stomach  if  his  opponent  wouldn’t  grant  him  the  chance  of  a  rematch  .  as  far  as  he  knew  though  ,  most  of  them  cheated  .  some  had  special  abilities  gifted  to  them  from  their  parents  .  another  resentment  he  had  that  he  wouldn’t  get  into  now  .

          “  pick  up  a  sword  ,  ”  an  amused  grin  curves  his  lips  while  he  glances  back  to  her  ,  after  bringing  her  along  with  him  to  the  arena  .  his  hand  wraps  the  grip  of  a  sword  &  he  rolls  it  in  his  hand  a  few  times  ,  getting  a  feel  for  it  .  a  reminder  of  his  choice  of  weapon  being  a  spear  ——  the  sword  just  felt  too  awkward  .  yet  ,  he  could  use  it  as  if  he  were  a  skilled  tradesman  .  “  my  reaction  time  is  garbage  right  now  .  need  some  help  getting  my  shit  together  ——  keep  that  H  word  between  us  though  ,  don’t  need  people  hearing  my  sob  story  ,  ”  he  pauses  while  he  turns  to  her  ,  the  grin  widening  even  more  now  that  he  faced  her  .  a  bow  ,  out  of  respect  ,  before  he  readies  his  sword  .  “  how  was  your  day  ?  ”

              .・。.・゜☆ .・ ☾   brooklyn  smiles  at  her  sister ,  no  niceness  in  it  at  all ,  and  shrugs  her  shoulders .  “ i  could  wait ,  or  i  could  teach  them  sooner ,  rather  than  later . ”  she  waves  her  hand  in  a  scooting  motion , leaving  it  up  to  interpretation .  the  suggestion  carries  little  weight ,  the  option  still  very  much  available ,  but  having  no  real  desire  to  exhaust  herself  on  new  people .  at  morrigan’s  last  suggestion ,  her  hand  reaches  to  grab  the  hilt  of  her  sword ,  not  planning  on  either  of  them  being  there  for  much  longer .  “ you  know ,  that’s  an  excellent  idea ,  because  as  you  see  my  friend , ”  she  hooks  an  arm  in  the  other’s  elbow ,  dragging  her  along  as  she  readies  up  the  next  part  of  her  story ,  “ i  may  or  may  not  be  working  on  a  few  ideas  for  spells ,  and  i  need  your  help  with  them . ”  she  gives  her  a  real  smile  this  time , “ but  chiron  can’t  know . ”

        she can’t help but grin at the idea, knowing full well that nothing short of an act from one of the gods would chase off the two that were already sparring ─ they were new and likely filled to the brim with excitement over skills they never knew would come quite so naturally. until the adrenaline wore off or dinner time rolled around, the arena was unlikely to be free. she hums softly as she lets her sister lead the way, raising an eyebrow ─ keeping a secret wouldn’t usually be hard, but practicing a spell without getting caught? “what kind of spell did you have in mind, exactly?” knowing what they were hiding would hopefully make it easier to actually hide.

𝒍𝒐𝒄𝒂𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏   :   outside  the  hecate  cabin ,  morning .

                    camp    half  -  blood’s    morning    breakfast    rush    was    notorious .    jesse    had    heard    tales    of    stampedes    —-    though    he    never    seemed    to    be    present    when    they    happened ,    much    to    his    chagrin .    nevertheless ,    he    rose    early    —-    and    as    luck    would    have    it ,    there    was    never    a    pre  -  formed    line    when    he    arrived .    with    each    daybreak ,    he    filled    a    mug    with    equal    parts    coffee    and    cream    only    to    shake    8    packets    of    sugar    into    it    as    an    afterthought .    he    purposely    eyes    the    hecate    cabin    on    his    way    back .    it’s    an    act    of    wariness    as    much    as    is    anticipation .    he    waits    for    morrigan’s    emergence    each    day    with    the    sureness    that    one    would    wait    for    the    chime    of    a    grandfather    clock    on    the    hour .    taking    up    his    post    with    his    back    pressed    to    the    side    of    the    tyche    cabin ,    which   presents    as    more    of    a    poor    man’s    las    vegas    than    a    temporary    home    with    its    blinking    lights    and    neon    signs    —-    he    waits ,    though    impatiently .    clearing    his    throat    loudly ,    he    calls    out    only    a    second    later .     “     morrigan !   rise  and  shine .     ”      the    i’m     bored    is    silent ,    and    he’s    stooping    to    pick    up    a    small    stone    only    to    toss    it    at    her    cabin’s    window .

        she’d known as she had fallen asleep she shouldn’t’ve stayed up as late as she had, but she did have a plan ─ she’d sleep most of the day, wake refreshed sometime around noon, and spend the rest of the daylight hours getting ready to stay up all night. the new moon meant the world would be that much darker than most of the month, and that darkness was something she’d revelled in even before she’d known she was a child of hecate. of course she knew she wouldn’t get to sleep in, not with jesse van houten in the cabin right next door.         a groan slipped past her lips before mismatched eyes even flutter open, but within minutes she’s up and dressed and heading outside ─ she can’t help herself. for as much as she can’t stand jesse, she had to admit no day felt complete without at least one or two sarcastic jabs between neighbors. “ jesse ─ didn’t anyone ever tell you not to wake a sleeping witch? ”
