BIOGRAPHY

Shuri, short for Shuribrie, is a circus jester known for their intense daydreaming and lucid dreaming. They're very flexible and agile, but relatively weak. Despite their fragility, Shuri has a short temper and is willing to do just about anything to get them straight where they wanna go. However, they're also very spiritual, and tries to find any message or pathway given by whoever may be up there.

Shuri was born with an unknown condition unique to their species. It presents itself as green-blue spots on the skin and keratin, causing rashes. Their left eye was also affected, resulting in partial blindness. It's theorised the green colours were originally yellow like their brother, but this isn't confirmed.

Shuri has a younger brother by the name of Reggie who they deeply care about and spent most of their time with, however they lost contact after being recruited in the circus. They're constantly trying to find a way out, both out of the circus and the headspace they trapped themselves in.

LORE

REALITY

In the real world, Shuri was separated from their caretakers to unknown reasons and started living a solitary life with their brother, Reggie. After Shuri got lost, they were found by somebody known as The Ringmaster who promised a bright and stable future in exchange for circus work. Being desperate, starved and ill, Shuri naturally accepted the invitation in hopes of recovering and shortly after reunite with their brother, however this was not the case. After healing and recovering themselves, they were faced with the harsh truth: Shuri was stuck in the circus unless they proved they were capable of being independent. This of course was merely an excuse since Shuri was a grown adult, fully capable of managing themselves, but the circus thought otherwise due to their illness and unusual demeanor. Since then, Shuri worked for the circus's performances against their will, daydreaming about freedom and reuniting with their brother on the daily. They of course weren't the only ones struggling there, but because Shuri tends to distance themselves from people, the closest 'friends' they earnt in the circus are merely acquaintances. Even if they don't care much about other people, they're still secretly planning a potential escape route with the others out of the circus and the fences surrounding the gardens.

Shuri has always been an artist and a creator at heart. They always loved drawing and expressing themselves, however in the circus this was hardly possible, so they resorted to daydreaming and slowly creating an universe of their own in their head. Year by year, the universe expanded with its own worlds, backstory, flora and fauna. After learning how to thoroughly lucid dream, Shuri was faced with a problem never expected before...

HEADSPACE

The Homelands

Due to their intensive lucid dreaming, Shuri one random day found themselves falling from the sky and landing into a world they very well found familiar. It was the world they were slowly building in their head, now envisioned with their own eyes. They explored and eventually tried searching for a way out, or a way to wake up, but nothing worked. It was just them, their mind and their creation in front of them.

The Lightbringer

The world Shuri was stuck in was susceptable to changes based on their mental state, whether it be environmental or outworldly. This was because Shuri was the Creator of this universe, which also meant they were able to create and change things at will. Creating things when you're physically in your own world isn't easy though, especially with the world's own Willpower system, shortened as Will. Shuri naturally starts with a low Will, making them unable to create anything, but with enough strenght, endurance and meditation, they can slowly earn more Willpower and reach Enlightenment. 

In this world, Shuri has the role of The Lightbringer. The time period the world is set at their arrival is way in the future, where harsh environments thrive and ancients are long gone. There's barely any fauna, if not for Black Matter scattered around more commonly in darker areas: an unbeatable form of rot that consumes anything in its way and that stems from the Creator's inner negative feelings.

The Lightbringer slowly finds their way through meditation, which raises Will and allows them to create things, most notably light orbs (essential as to not get consumed by instability or Black Matter when traversing dark environments) and later on gain access to The Mindscape; an unstable 'pocket dimension' where they can create or modify more things with limited time.

The Lightbringer finds their way out of this world in 2 ways (+1 non canon bad ending which will not be discussed here):

1st ending: Timeloop

The Lightbringer travels around the world and beyond, warping in different universes, dimensions and timelines as they try raising their Willpower. After reaching Enlightenment (max will), they end up climbing a massive high mountain traditionally used for the most ancient way of ascension: the ancients used to climb the peak, do a religious ritual and then jump off to the lake. The speed and momentum would get so strong that they'd go out-of-bounds and clip into the Purgatory, where they would then swim a while towards the Hall of Nothing. Journey towards the Hall took a randomised time between 5-30 minutes for each wanderer. After the Hall came The Nothingness: an expansion of void where souls of the ascended slowly swam towards the light. However, The Lightbringer saw a different version of The Nothingness. It wasn't a peaceful void, but rather a hellscape which they could only exit by facing their inner instincts to give up (to put it simply...). Those instincts would be often represented by a huge chained bird. Afterwards, The Lightbringer would slowly swim out of The Nothingness and become a mere echo in the sky, until they fall down again and repeat the timeloop all over.

2nd ending: Reclamation

The Lightbringer follows the same journey as the first ending, however upon reaching Enlightenment they instead close all of the interdimensional warps they created and travel in The Mindscape to collect lost shards, completing a shattered mirror found within each warp. While they do this, EFFIGY ends up being awakened from her slumber and threatens them to give up and to succumb to the timeloop, trying to make them think they're incapable of escaping their own prison. After completing every dimensional warp, going into The Nothingness will bring them to an endless void where they'll be faced with more challenges and fight against EFFIGY. Having proven their Enlightenment and endurance, The Lightbringer ends up reaching Reclamation, meaning all the lost selves in other planes that made them prone to timeloops were reunited as one. As they swim upwards the void, they reach a place simply referred as Zen, where The Lightbringer can rest and create to their heart's content.

Up to this point, it's likely Shuri wakes up from their (theorised) lucid dream coma and becomes fully conscious in the real world. This is unless their mental state falls down again, causing their inner Will to drop and The Lightbringer to fall out of Zen and into The Homelands like a fallen angel, repeating the timeloop once more.
