the idea that kink is somehow safe from critique and prejudice or harm is so fucking funny. ah yes bodies, desire, and power, three things that have famously never been utilized in harmful ways. great news everyone yes we are all existing in complex systems of oppression and violence BUT!!!!!! itâs on pause when we are horny
The reasons for why men kill their partners and themselves point to all the connected causes (financial stress, increased access to guns, etc) but never to like, THEE reason. Which is abusive men think they own women and children, and misogyny. But America is allergic to the words misogyny and femicide, so we can't get to the bottom of it
I think if your mother hates you you should get a little card in your wallet that allows you free concessions at the local independent movie theatre
and a gun.
overhearing my neighbor rant on the phone top of his lungs and his friend is saying something in calm voice and he goes NO. NO NUANCE. STOP SAYING NUANCE. MY BOSS NEEDS TO DIE

One thing about psychiatry that people I talk to are always surprised to learn is the disparity between how psychiatrists, psychologists, and others in the field discuss mental illness and psychiatric diagnosis amongst themselves and how they discuss these things in public facing or patient facing contexts.
For example, it has been widely accepted to a certain extent since forever but especially so in the past five years that low levels of serotonin are not the cause of depression. This has been established over and over again through studies and is acknowledged by basically every psychiatrist. And yet you will get called anti-science for stating this well-established fact because people have been told otherwise by their therapists, their psychiatrists, mental health advocacy organizations, and instagram graphics.
On a larger scale, it is also known and reluctantly acknowledged within the profession that there is no known biological cause for any psychiatric diagnosis. (A small number of conditions in the DSM do have known biological causes, such as âMajor or Mild Neurocognitive Disorder Due to HIV Infectionâ, but these are not primarily psychiatric disorders, they are symptoms of illnesses primarily treated by other disciplines where the patient may also see a mental health practitioner as part of their treatment.) But people also do not believe you when you say this because they have heard so many times from mental health professionals and organizations that mental illnesses are biological diseases like any other.
Psychiatrists are generally aware of the epistemological problems plaguing psychiatry, they just choose to keep it in the family. So you will get called anti-psychiatry for stating facts about the field that are regularly said at APA conferences and published in psychiatric journals.
Women and women can never be friends because the sex thing just gets in the way
People always have a lot to say about caregiver fatigue, but no one gives a shit about the shame of being taken care of. I think it's even heavier than caregiving. As a caregiver, you can always take a break. But when you're on the other side, the shame never ends.
Caregiver fatigue and empathy fatigue are just deeply uninteresting topics to me. Sorry. Can we talk instead about building a world where help isn't rationed according to how likeable someone is?
We have the capacity to honour the fatigue of caregivers and that of those who require caregiving, for the betterment of all society we can honour, support and raise up both. Imagining society as a competition is a capitalist concept. Envision a society in which care is not rationed, because the cost is managed by the State.
Lol, it's exhausting having my own posts explained back to me by people (curiously, it's mostly white people), as if it never occurred to them that if I didn't say what they're saying, there might've been a reason for that.
But sure, thanks for the unsolicited remix.
There are countless studies on caregiver stress and burnout. But when you start looking for research on the long-term emotional impact of having to rely on other people just to stay alive, there's a lot less out there. The experiences of people receiving long-term care still get far less attention than those of caregivers.
This is exactly what I've been complaining about. I don't need any more "additions" from smartalecks who think they're improving my point. If you want to make a different argument, write your own post. Otherwise, stick to your fandom blogging.
I genuinely think some of you are too ableist to engage with what I'm actually saying. Instead, you keep reading the worst possible interpretation into my posts and then arguing with that instead.
(no beers in) So how do you perceive me in the privacy of your thoughts
liberals making empathy a focus in politics is a mistake not just because of their hypocrisy (lacking empathy for victims of imperialism evidently) but because the right genuinely thinks "so much for tolerance huh" means anything when someone stands up to bigotry. like no, you don't actually have to tolerate people treating you like shit, and you aren't a better person for being a doormat--it will drive you insane
also "taking the high road" is an excuse for inaction in many circumstances. it is, ironically, prioritizing personal comfort by avoiding conflict
