A supermarket. A pharmacy.
She broke from the group early, stumbling twice as she wobbled on unsteady feet before hitting a dead sprint for where on her i.d. the small building glowed invitingly. She must have been quite the sight â silently walking from the trial, fidgeting the entire way out of the dilapidated building, and then spooking like a cornered dog and disappearing around the nearest corner. But she didnât think about that. She didnât think about any of them.
She was panting by the time she got there, stumbling through the door with such little grace her shoulders slammed against the door frame. The pharmacy was nothing like the pitiful excuse for a school infirmary â drugs, real useful prescription drugs, lined the shelves. Her shaking fingers brushed over labels. Her lip bled as she bit down.
In the middle of the small building, Nori sat down on the floor and drew her legs up to her chest, sniffling as tears streamed down her face.
The friendly chime of the door announced someone else entering, having caught up despite Noriâs mad dash. If theyâd followed her here or simply arrived on their own merit, it didnât matter. Though her gaze snapped up to meet theirs and her mouth opened automatically to babble, she didnât change her position.
ââŚIâm sorry. I never wanted any of that, if ya can believe me. I just⌠the rules are rules, anâ⌠anâ I didnât wanna die, I thought it was.. âcause logically, it would have.. I⌠needed it to be logical. I needed it to be fuckinâ⌠right.â
A shaky smile touched her lips as she wiped her eyes on the back of her shirt cuff. âThe way monokuma explained it to me, unless people get away with murder weâre all gonna die. The only way for anyone to get out alive is to graduateâthâ same number of people are gonna die, but not everyone has to. Accordinâ to the rules, thereâs one way tâ live. Thereâs an out. Logically I should be happy for him.â There was no need to clarify the pronoun. âOr at least⌠understand. Yâknow, get why it happened. But Iâm just⌠tired.â
Finally she got to her feet, two unlabeled, orange tinted bottles clutched on one hand and filled to the brim with little white pills. âWeâre all fucked up in some way, jusâ like him.. I get that now, I think, after all that. Or if we werenât⌠weâre gonna be. So thatâs where logic fails. Logically, any of us should have killed. But only he did.â
Hesitating visibly, she swallowed visibly before jutting out her gloved hand in an awkward but sincere invitation to shake. âBut all of that aside. I made mistakes too, and Iâm not too proud as to not be able to admit âem. So Iâm sorry. I never wanted to be enemies. Please donât blame me for beingââ Her mouth was cotton. Swallow. âScared tâ die. Can we be on better terms?â
