One of the things I find so interesting Magnus stories is that everyone starts out as a normal person but they're doomed by the narrative almost from the start.
They make descisions. Sometimes they're innocent and sometimes they're selfish, but ultimately there is a cosmic helplessness in their humanity. You can make the choices you feel are right or you can make the ones you feel are necessary. You can be a good person or you can lean into your role. But it doesn't matter. A power incomprehensible to you decided that you were gonna be a pawn and now you have to play a game. A game that leaves you with just enough free will to be culpable for all your actions and their respective consequences, but never enough to get out.
Survival isn't the happy ending you think it is, and death only feeds the thing holding you captive.
Everyone— hero, villian, survivor, victim— is doomed. There aren't happy endings and there isn't justice. Just people trying to live despite fearing, despite knowing that nothing at the end will be good. Because that's not the kind of world they're in. They were always doomed from the very beginning and there was nothing they could do about it.
