The rhyme "Liar Liar Pants On Fire” was inspired by the English Inquisition, where the pants of heretics were lit aflame. The same inquisition also spawned the phrase, “Thief Thief Impaled On A Barbed Spike,” which is less known because it does not rhyme.
i made this i guess
One thing in Deltarune that I actually noticed back when chapter 3 & 4 released, is that every chapter the Big Boss character has gotten increasingly friendlier towards the fun gang.
Like, in chapter 1 we have King, who is EXTREMELY hostile from the get go. You learn he hates Lightners waaay before you ever meet him, and he explicitly wants the Fun Gang dead. He deeply resents Lightners and refuses to listen to anything they say, uses underhanded tricks, including threatening to throw his own son (who he very much cares about btw) off of the castle rooftop (yes it's a bluff. it's still fucked up) just to get back at them. His entire goal is to get rid of ALL Lightners. Suffice to say, he's not exactly friendly. He's also the only notable character so far to remain hostile after he's defeated (though he has chilled out a bit throughout the chapters).
Then, chapter 2 has Queen, who is still definitely hostile, but isn't really the "I need them all dead" kind of hostile like King is so much as "anything that opposes my goals needs to be dealt with" kind of hostile. She doesn't even really want them dead at all, she just wants them to Not Be A Problem. So either they join her as her willing peon(preferably) or they perish. Her end goal is to take total control of the world so that she, with her Infinite Wisdom And Knowledge, can make everyone happy (so long as they listen to her). Her actions are fuelled by love for people, even if the way she goes about showing that love is terrible. To her, control=happiness, so anyone who opposes control opposes happiness. By the end she has slowly started to see that total control is kinda making everyone miserable, and Noelle's outburst really made that settle in. She's not making her happy. She's not making anyone happy. So, away with oppression it is! She no longer has reason to fight them so she won't. Also I couldn't find a natural spot to put this but she also notably is very willing to temporarily side with Kris in contrast to King who would rather die than put his trust in a Lightner again.
Chapter 3 has Tenna, who is... kinda not a real enemy at first? He's an obstacle for sure, he's preventing them for reaching the Fountain by forcing games on them, but he's not presenting himself as an actual danger or someone who actually wants to hurt them. ...Because he doesn't. Tenna is a distraction in someone else's plan, which he's going along with because he desperately wants someone to pay attention to him again. And he WILL use dirty tricks like guilt-tripping to achieve that, but he very much does not want to hurt them. He wants them to stay and have fun and forget about everything else but him and the entertainment he brings them. It's only once they completely refuse to go along with his show by snooping around that he starts being an actual danger to them. And even then, he doesn't really want to fight. He just has no real other choice (because letting them go is not an option). His actions are terrible and his motives are selfish, but he does still very much like the Fun Gang and wants them to have fun. He just doesn't care if they want to. He's kinda like Queen in that way, wanting someone to be happy but it has to be on their terms rather than the actual person's.
Chapter 4... is the exception here, just by virtue of not actually having a proper Big Boss character to begin with. Like, the closest we have is Gerson, who IS definitely a lot friendly than the previous ones! ...Because he's not an enemy. At all. He's not an obstacle in any way, his boss fight is completely optional and is purely about guiding Susie anyway. So like... he can't really be part of a pattern he never adhered to anyway lol.
Lastly, chapter 5 has Flowery. He's actually so friendly it tips over into uncomfortable over-familiarity. Sure, he pisses Ralsei off all the time (on purpose), but the only one he seems to actually not really like that much is Kris, for... various reasons. But even then he doesn't really act hostile towards them aside from like. A few times in dialogue. But he's still undeniably an obstacle, even when he's helping the Fun Gang. He doesn't pose an actual physical threat to them until they actual confront him, but he is going out of his way to hinder them from getting Asgore or reaching the Fountain, and is consistently trying to get them to leave. His motives are not even remotely malicious, though they are definitely selfish (in a "selfless in a self-serving kind of way"). He wants to pay back Asgore for keeping him and the other flowers alive for longer than they were meant to, and is pushing his own idea of what Asgore "needs" to be happy onto him. He opposes the Fun Gang because they (and Kris in particular) do not fit in with that idea. And it's worth noting that, unlike the other Big Bosses, he actually knows about the Roaring and the consequences of letting it happen. He knows that this Dark World is ultimately unsustainable long term, especially as he and the other flowers are unable to survive in it. And he still decides he has to do this.
I don't know where I'm going with this I just thought it was an interesting pattern
