This weekend I just want summer.

Narthecium ossifragum, bog asphodel. One of my favourite summer flowers because it seems to bloom a little early here, from about the middle of June, and I spend a lot of time in such places.

Ahh let’s face it, I love all summer flowers. For a stroll along a few miles of green lane in late April 2012 my diary noted ‘Warm and beautiful all round. Found lesser celandine, violet, stitchwort, wood anemone, bluebell, primrose, strawberry, dandelion, gorse, blackthorn, daisy, spurge, dog’s mercury, wood sorrel, ground ivy, campion, lady’s smock and periwinkle all in flower. Spring is here.’

Won’t be long now.

I believed I was…” There is a small pause. “I was something that was better kept away from them. So that is why I went away, right? It only made sense.” They share a glance, as it is made obvious that Gin is very much listening, standing at the other side of the room. “I don’t know…!” Maverick shakes off with a gesture, feeling a bit awkward. “Lately, I’ve seen that maybe that was the wrong lesson to learn from everything I went through.” And there it is, her winning smile: crooked and lovely. Maverick tilts her head towards Gin with fondness, “It’s actually because I met you.”
