“You know, Gin?” Maverick says, “I very much get the feeling of being scared of being a danger to those around you. That is pretty much the reason I disappeared for around seven years. I believed I was…” There is a small pause. “I was something that was better kept away from them. So that is why I went away, right? It only made sense.” They share a glance, as it is made obvious that Gin is very much listening, standing at the other side of the room. “I don’t know…!” Maverick shakes off with a gesture, feeling a bit awkward. “Lately, I’ve seen that maybe that was the wrong lesson to learn from everything I went through.” And there it is, her winning smile: crooked and lovely. Maverick tilts her head towards Gin with fondness, “It’s actually because I met you.”

“Yes, see? This one is very short.” She seems even more amused, “This tells me you are not one for romance so much. You are quite independent, aren’t you?” At that, there is a little glimpse of an honest amused smile, a half-prideful one at that. Independent is the understatement of the century. “Oh, but it is…” Lady Catherine sighs, with pity and disappointment. “It is so broken.
