The programme identified them as worthy of the higher reality. The Simulacrum went about with its normal processes, playing the part of the to-be deceased, but...
They didn't seem to be taking it seriously. No steps were being taken to try and reveal its true nature. They just kept joking around.
What was this? An anomaly, to be sure.
It kept conversing, starting to probe them gently for information. It only got a hyperbolic joke in response most of the time.
How interesting.

āYou set the extra mug in your hand down on the table he was sat at, pulling his attention away from his laptop where he had been diligently working. He turned to look up with you, appreciation evident in his eyes.

Jamie could be a, for lack of a better word, difficult partner to have. Theyāre used to being by themself, and they struggle opening up to people and letting them in. Once you get past the barriers they put up for themself though, you couldnāt find a more dedicated partner.
Being with someone else whose trans probably eases them into trusting you a little easier. You know what itās like to live in that shitty little town, sticking out like sore thumbs. Jamieās used to people not liking him because of how heās different. Heād be grateful to be with someone who wouldnāt judge him for that.
You know Jamieās really started to trust you the first time he shows you his hideout in the Solomon Mines. Itās filled with boxes of stuff you donāt really want to know the contents of, but itās also so uniquely them. Candles that smell like blackberry and lavender, gothic-themed decorations and tapestries, a shitty couch you donāt even know how Jamie got in there to begin with. Itās comforting to be there, especially when theyāre there with you.
Itās there that Jamie probably first asks you out. Theyāre awkward about it, despite their best efforts to seem cool and collected. With only a slight blush, they admit that youāre probably the most-tolerable person in town, and they wouldnāt mind spending more time like this together. Alone. Or maybe go out, if youād want toā¦
When you smile and say youād love to, pressing a kiss to their lips and gaining some of their lipstick, you see them genuinely smile for the first time. You could get used to that smile.
Once you get together properly, it doesnāt take long for the word to get around school that youāre both taken. Some people scoff or make fun of you both, but if anyone tried to say or do anything to you, Jamie isnāt afraid to send them running from an illusion of locusts swarming them.
Being with them also means getting free passes into parties and raves around town, and spending time with their friends. They all accept you openly, some more enthusiastically than others (aka Af). Theyāre happy to see Jamie happy, and having another person to party with makes it even better.
When the cult stuff and the death of Amanda happened, Jamie couldnāt be more grateful to have someone to lean against. When heās healing in the hospital, you didnāt dare leave his side, police interrogations be-damned. It would be a time of stress and anxiety for the both of you, but at least you had each other. Jamie couldnāt even put into words how much he loved you for sticking by his side.
