MIP(Nature Revenge) (29April2017)

As I said, I want to do a music video so I get to try make this for real. My animation is about a man helping the nature to revenge this polluted world. My inspiration is based on an animation called, ‘Man’ by Steve Cutts. The animation giving the message of how human destroy the world and I want to make another animation that the nature is giving a revenge to those people who polluted the world. Besides, it is inspired by a Chinese poem as well, ‘Life in the mountains on an Autumn Evening’ by ‘Wang Wei’. Its said that 4 seasons are so pretty and unique. Showing how the writer respect the nature and the cycle of 4 seasons. I face to this direction to design my story and animation. The most hardest thing I met is doing some action which need to follow the music beats. This is so hard to handle while you are focusing the frames you are drawing and listening to the song every moment to connect each others and create an animation. Although some of the scenes are quite unreasonable, this is the most reasonable things I can think about in this few weeks and combine all of them together. In this animation, I had tried different brushes like charcoal, pencil, water colors and grass brushes(I designed it). Besides, it doesn’t look good after complete the whole animation. I still need to improve my ideas and frames I drew. At least, this is a good try and challenge for myself to do a music video by myself. Thank you for Harry Cook designing the music for me and glad to work with your music. 

My dissertation topic is exploring how the digital media techniques has micmic and replacing the traditional art techniques. It is based on my practices of animation and investigating why people used digital media to do their artworks rather than using traditional art techniques. Although one of the main reason is saving time to draw in papers, there are more reasons to prove that digital media is corroding hand drawings. For example, it is more convenience to send to others and saved it in computers, people using pen tablet can draw different styles and this is a trend of the art history going by. There are two pictures above I had chosen to share here because this is a combination of digital and hand drawings. ‘Loving Vincent’, is the animation they are making to respect Van Gogh and remake his works into a story about him. Animation is easier to let people digest the information of his life and viewers could know more Van Gogh drawing styles though the animation because this animation is based on his drawings style to remake. I giving out this example is because sometimes there is a grey area of digital medias and hand drawings and I am going to investigate more and research deeper of this topic. After the discussion from the lecture with course mates and tutor, I got much more information and details to research. The next target I need to focus is ‘David Hockney’. He is a man who follow the art history styles to make all of the works and proved that he can also made those styles as well. This topic is amazing and interesting for me. As a animation student, I am sure this topic can help me to understand more about creating animation and some of the animation history.

I am so glad to have a chance to draw the scenery of cemetery. It is because in Asia, this is impolite and disrespect if you draw the tombstone. I used ink, watercolors and crayons to draw the grey dark cemetery. I caught the scenes of most vivid cemetery. Like experimental drawing, compared with my term 1 location drawings are more interesting and lively. I had slightly improved my drawings skills (I guess) and I would like to take more photos and doing location drawings when I go back home.

This is the last week we can edit our animation. I had been doing the breaking glass, eyes shinning and some bubbles rise effects in this animation. I had searched different types of movie opening to achieve cinematic feelings. After the tutorial, I suggested to change my title opening because it is not suit for the whole animation style. Then, I changed different fonts, atmosphere to make it more relevant to the animation. My group mates suggested me to look like the title in a test tube and more likely to have a relation with the animation. Although this animation is a short trailer for our animation story, I think is quite attractive and catch people eyes of the story. This is nearly done the whole animation and I think it should be a great operative work with my group.

Pitch Project (Clone Dating) (06March-10March 2017)

 I chose to work in this pitch project because I want to work with some new people and different kinds of genre. This pitch is a funny one and I wish I could make this animation more likely a movie. My job is to take part of effects so the opening, ending or some special effects like smoke, shinning light or water dripping are made by me! We had been doing a live action to micmic the storyboarding for looking at the details and emotions from the characters. This is so much fun and relax with this group. Thank you Rowan, Lili and Medmed work with me. Rowan has been editing all live action scenes and make this one.( not including the NG parts ) Also, I had been doing the opening for our animation. It is so dramatic for this opening. I am so surprise that I made this opening as well. I haven’t decide what font I am going to use but at the moment I will be doing in “Helvetica” first and see what I can change after the tutorial.

We had been provided different talks by animators and illustrators and we divided into a group to make our own zine though the topic. Our group talking heads topic is “Presentation”. I wrote down what they spoke and I found it quite useful for my course and my future as well. I liked how the speakers playing with his own name and develop his work in several parts.(Russell Weekes)In the talk, I can understand and summarize their points. First, understanding yourself and create your own work though your personalities. Second, doing online profile to let all people know about your work. Third, try to experiment different mediums and test the one you are suitable the best. This is how they present their work and sharing their own styles. Later on, we will make a 4 pages zine for our project. Hope those information may useful for our group.

Pitch project (self) (24Feb-03March 2017)

My pitch project is based on “Dream”. I would like to show what love is it is because I lack of family love in my life and want to make a animation about family care. In order to make it more easy and simple, I choose to use first person view to create my pitch project. Basically, the story is about the character got a heirloom necklace that will keep him safe and his family will protect him every moment. From the story beginning, he is escaping from the monster and he meet one of the monster which can make fog. He cant see the road clearly and fall down. Luckily, he has the “Clock necklace” protect him not to harm by them. After twenty years, he has his family and a kid. He gave his home necklace to him so he has protected by the family. Two of the pictures are captured from 2 animation and inspired me to create this idea.( description has been wrote in the pictures)
