DRAG ME TO HELL
This past Tuesday I went out to the movies, it’s been a while since I’ve been out to a movie on a week night! (Weird for me to say that right?!?!)
It was actually for a TERROR TUESDAY event, sponsored by the Alamo Drafthouse, yup, that one, and at the screening we heard that, the L.A. Alamo is coming; “sometime in the near future.”
The movie of the night was DRAG ME TO HELL. Directed by Sam Raimi! Because it was a RAIMI night I wore my DARKMAN shoes!!! Yes, I have DARKMAN SHOES!
I for sure DRAG ME TO HELL when it first came out in theaters, I loved it and had a blast. If I ever find it on TV, I watch it.
It’s about a girl, Christine, who crosses a gypsy, get cursed and has 3 days of torture that may lead to a trip to Hell!
At the screening there was a slew of guests: actor Dileep Rao, Producer Grant Curtis, Composer Christopher Young, and fellas from the sound department; Jussi Tegalman, Marti D. Humphrey, and Chris Jacobson then lastly Christian Cordella who worked on storyboards and the titles. (I hope I got all the name right, I was scribbling fast!)
All the fellas gushed about working with Sam Raimi, and shared how they created the sounds of hell for the big screen.
Watching it again I jumped, closed my eyes and got the creepy feels. It’s classic Raimi who assaults you with sound and makes inanimate objects horrific! A floating lacy handkerchief was never more sinister.
On the way out of the theater I was able to thank Dileep for coming out! Woot! He stayed through the whole movie!
I really do miss going to the movies, and this movie energized me, taking me to my happy place, mostly because it was a Sam Raimi movie! Yup!
Now, don’t upset gypsies, and just be nice!
More movies have been rented from our friendly neighborhood video store and reviewed at SHEMPCAT.COM Yup!
Renting movies! Just like the good old days! Round 2!
I ramble on about a bunch of movies I rented from a video store! Round Up Numero Dos!

Blogging again about movies I watch!
THE PIRATE MOVIE
Last month I re-watched THE PIRATE MOVIE with my guy Dave. I hadn't watched it in ages! Dave had a drink, saw my DVD and said let's watch, and so we did! I thought I'd collect all my tweets from that night in one stream and post them here.
So here's my recap of THE PIRATE MOVIE!
Dave drank some beer and is willing to watch THE PIRATE MOVIE. WOOT!

May you all have Happy Endings like in THE PIRATE MOVIE. I wish you all a good night. Yup!!
I'm wandering around Comic Con, yup!
Attending a midnight movie is one of my "happy places" is Los Angeles and it's most happy at the New Beverly Cinema. Last night the screening was Joe Dante's EXPLORERS (1985) in 35mm of course!
It was a great night! By the time I lined up with my guy Dave there were a bunch of people already in line! I found more than one familiar face and all were very excited to be there. Yup.
Joe Dante was also in attendance to introduce the movie. Originally he was to bring the an alternate reel of the movies ending but wrong reels were sent and so it was the same good old original version that played.
Joe Dante is awesome and was very happy to see the crowd that showed up. He stressed how special it was that a 35mm print was showing to relive the movie as it first played back in 1985. He talked about filming with the boys; how Ethan Hawke had come with an actor friend not expecting to audition and got the lead. Dante said he got to listen to the boys talk on set since they would leave on their mics and he was glad to hear them talked about kid stuff like when he himself was 13 too. It was interesting to hear how EXPLORERS just got rushed out by the studio, and Dante called this version his "Thursday cut" as he just had to get out what he had together.
I watched EXPLORERS on cable as a kid and I watched it with my sister a lot. I always dug it, but as a kid those aliens really creeped me out. The best part of the movie is the kids building their ship together, and all are ready for an adventure. It still holds up too, that wonder, excitement and dream of space journeys!
The crowd really seemed to enjoy the movie, most having already seen it too. It really was a fun night! I came out happy and jazzed, batteries charged up until my next movie going outing!
Ben: If this is all a dream, what's gonna happen when we wake up?
Wolfgang: I don't know, but I can't wait to find out.
FREE COMIC BOOK DAY!!! One of the days I love most out of all the year has come and gone! The first Saturday of May is FREE COMIC BOOK DAY! I love going to shops, snagging comics, seeing super heroes, fellow comic book fans, and hanging out with my nieces who are comic book geeks too! We LOVE love FREE COMIC BOOK DAY!! This year we could only visit two shops, but fun was had comics were snagged, comics were bought! Even with the heat and sun it was all a lot of fun! Thanks to Golden Apple Comics in Los Angeles and House of Secrets in Burbank for the good times!!! We are already counting down to do it all again next year!!! YUP!!! COMIC BOOKS KICK ASS!!!!
