The problem isn't that you have to join a Discord or have an account to get something, the problem is is that Discord is a black hole for information that is completely un-googlable and doesn't allow for easy archiving.

If you want any answers to a basic question in a Discord, you're gonna have to either A. Wrangle with their abysmal search function, B. Pray that the answer is either pinned in the appropriate channel or in an FAQ, or C. Ask your common question and pray that someone doesn't yell at you for answering an already-asked question, get drowned out by people chatting in the same channel, or if the server is particularly dead, get a response at all. VS a forum or reddit where usually all the problems you can encounter have public questions and answers that you can just google.

Not only that, but when Discord inevitably shuts down, ALL servers and information spread throughout gets lost too. Sure there are programs to archive Discord servers, but who is gonna make all that public? Who is going to sift through thousands of messages of idle chat and meme spam in order to get to the discussions and information that actually matters? Whereas with web pages and forums, I have an extension on my browser that lets me send a page to the internet archives with a click of a button. I will archive this very post in fact!

And then if you go to college, there aren't quite so many people making things fun for you--although there are RAs, and the student life office, and various clubs and organizations doing activities, etc.--but you're in an environment where your friends are nearby and you all have similar schedules and responsibilities, so a lot fun just kind of arises spontaneously.

But once you're out on your own, in the workforce and whatnot, all that just drops of a cliff. Planned activities for adults exist, but you generally have to seek them out, rather than having them relentlessly advertised to you and/or taking place in locations where you will bump into them on the way to breakfast. And your friends are all spread out, and everyone's busy at different times, so you aren't just bumping into people and getting sucked into whatever adventure they have going on, you have to make arrangements.

It's a big shift! If you have kids, you generally figure out pretty quick that your role is now the Planner Of Fun, but without that big obvious signpost, it can feel like the world just gradually stopped having fun things in it.

But it hasn't; you just have to plan and seek out opportunities for fun yourself, because it's no longer anyone else's job to put them in front of you--it's yours!

Hair getting caught in your deep dive port when you try to plug the link in.

Your sleeves getting stuck in the seams of your arm cyberware when the mechanisms retract back in.

Mantis blades accidentally shredding your long sleeves when you flex them.

A ripperdoc not having your exact shade of skintone on your new limb, and telling you to wait to get it replaced while it's on backorder.

Needing to register the new fingerprints on your hand if you get it replaced with a cybernetic, and the complications of having two hands that might not match up printwise.

People 'tattooing' the chromed parts of their body via laser engraving.

Metal plating getting so hot during the summer that you accidentally burn yourself trying to scratch your nose.

Forgetting to deslot shards and accidentally carrying them around in your head for a week.

Needing to clean the gunk out of your mantis blades or projectile launcher at home, so you flex it open and scrub at it with a bunch of paper towels or a bristle brush for an hour.

Rust and tarnish cleaner being a staple in home cyberware maintenance.

Actually buying projectile launcher rounds.

Someone starting a Mythbusters/Jackass style TV show about cyberware ("Hey gang! Today we're asking 'Is it possible to punch through a 3-foot cinderblock wall using only seven-gen Gorilla Fists?'")
