But what about Aziraphale. Don't forget Aziraphale. He said this. Didn't do this. He's also ooc.

Where were all these people and all these comments when people asked for Crowley to leave Aziraphale, fuck others, slap him, asked for him to suffer, have him dance a whole musical of apology dances, for Crowley to make sarcastic comments for the next few centuries, have him pay for being stupid in S2? Where were all these people asking everyone to be fair and look at both sides?

Aziraphale was - to me, willfully and openly hated on, spat on, and beaten down in S3. He tries his best and it's pointless, Crowley is the hero now, Crowley will get what he wanted, what his angel self wanted even - a universe that is not just a background but one that will run as long as it wants to. Just like he imagined. With some humans thrown in. With extra special free will that will bring all old universe look-a-likes together again. Crowley lost hope in the universe he lived in so it gets deleted.

The Crowley who spent years drinking and gambling and ignoring the knowledge that the universe is on a chopping block and the angel he once claimed to love is trying his best to change that, alone among his would be murderers, is head and shoulders, nay, a billion universes above the bad lines Aziraphale has gotten in GO3.

Aziraphale is forced to lie by the script about why he has returned. He does not get to say how lonely he felt. How he waited for Crowley to change his mind and he never did. How he replayed Crowley saying no and insulting him before walking away over and over. And he stayed and tried to save Crowley from eternity in torment anyway. He didn't give up, didn't just say fuck it, I'll watch the stupid musical for eternity, what do I care. He was the boss now even. Maybe he could put on another musical if he wanted.

Aziraphale tries again and again to talk about what happened between them. He tries to bring up things that made them laugh before. That connected them before. He is unfailingly kind and caring. Even towards Satan!! But the story now claims that this is futile and ridiculous and does not matter and Aziraphale is an idiot for trying.

Aziraphale praises Crowley even if the script tries to twist it so it seems he only cared for angel Crowley which we know is a ridiculous motion. Aziraphale did not know angel Crowley. Angel Crowley was an ass to him. Aziraphale loved the book!Crowley and S1!Crowley who adored and appreciated him back. Not some long lost platonic ideal of Crowley who didn’t make a stupid decision to follow Satan.

Do I think that Asa and Anthony were cute? Yes. Do I also hate them? Yes. Let me explain. Throughout television history there has always been the same tropes for queer characters: Predetory, misrable, bullied, alone, in a relationship but only if they're the side character, and death. We have seen this over and over and over again.

We've seen it in supernatural with Castiels' dying confession, in Stranger Things with Will's humiliating coming out, the end of any byler hope as we knew it and the completely unnecessary rovicky breakup, in movies like Brokeback Mountain, As You Are, and Maurice where the whole plots are built off of tragedy. And when we do get positive representations of queer people and their relationships their respective shows/movies get cancelled or pushed aside, for example: I am Not Okay Wth This, The Owl House, and Shera and the Princesses of Power (And I would absolutely love to get into the under-representation of queer women in media another day).

SOOOO, when Good Omens got adapted for TV and popularized people were excited to finally have a piece of queer media with queer characters that didnt end in tragedy, that spread the message that everything would end up okay in the end (I also admit that I'm relatively new to the GO fandom so I'm not 100% sure as to what people felt like at the time but I'm speaking from my own experience of watching the show and consuming older fan media of it as well). As I watched the show I felt so overjoyed to see such a beautiful relationship on screen, it was so refreshing (especially after being in the pits of doom and despair aka the supernatural/destiel fanspace for so long) to see these lovable characters learn and grow and be happy with one another.

Then the end of season 2 came up and EVERYTHING changed, all of a sudden the queer despair came back and Aziraphale and Crowly couldn't be happy and together anymore because aparently you can't have queer media without some sort of tragedy!!!!! After the dramatic, painful, and OUT OF CHARACTER end of season 2 it all just became a snowballing boulder of shit. I got to season 3 and all of the positivity and hope of the show had been completely sucked out of it. It had completely lost its message. And by the end of the movie all hope had been lost. Here we went again with two of our favorite queer characters dying a completely avoidable death. Another unhappy ending. Another tally in the book of queer tragedy. Which brings me back to Asa and Anthony. Like I said in the beginning I thought the whole idea of them finding each other in every universe was very cute, but that being said, Asa and Anthony were NOT Aziraphale and Crowly. They were not the MAIN characters we had grown to love and relate to, Asa and Anthony were simply side characters to a much bigger and more interesting story put in to help us forget that very few shows, writers, and producers will ever let us have a queer couple in the spotlight. It shows that they will never be brave enough to give queer people a chance to shine.
