Something I've always found interesting is how in CRK, they seem to avoid taking their time lately? I've been skipping out on recent updates because of just how BAM! BAM! BAM!
NEW LORE! NEW HIGH RARITY COOKIE! LIMITED THIS! DIFFICULT THAT!
It's just too much! I consider the last true 'filler' update we got to be the Farers of the Faraway Seas update. And that released July 30th last year! It's nearly been a full year since the last filler update! Now, one could make the argument that Premonition of Doom was a filler update, but I consider a filler update to be a story that has little to no narrative significance after it's over.
(Note - The KPop Demon Hunters collab also counts but I'm currently referring to filler updates that give us new characters designed for the game or crossed over from other games in the Cookie Run universe. I do not consider collab special cookies or guest cookies new characters in that sense since they are either non-playable or from a different franchise.)
Premonition of Doom played a major role during the Dark Enchantress War! Without the lore it set up we'd be missing huge chunks of the main story for the finale of Arc 1.
Meanwhile over in Ovenbreak, the most recent update as of this post is the Summer Party at Marine Soda Bay update. Another filler update would be The Great Pâtissier Battle update back in February. Now, I'm pretty sure the next update will be a Nova Cookie update, considering the 2026 roadmap, but that still makes for... two legendary cookies released so far in 2026! (Well, I suppose three if you count Bamboo Blade Cookie, since most of his update came out in 2026, but its initial release was in 2025.) And next to those 2-3 legendary cookies is the release of 12 epic cookies! So about 25% legendaries, and 75% epics. And that's IF we count Bamboo Blade Cookie and discount Allulose Nova Cookie. If we only count Halite Gauntlet Cookie, then that bumps down to roughly 8% legendaries, and 92% epics!
Back in Kingdom, we've gotten 6 cookies above the super epic ranking and 4 epic cookies. (The two dough cookies + ash salt and croissant.) That is 60% high rarities, and 40% epics. That is insane!
One might say that there are more Cookies overall in Ovenbreak being released so far than Kingdom, so they must be harder to level up than cookies in Kingdom. But that's simply not true!
For the new updates to how legendary cookies upgrade, you need 520 soulstones to get them to 6 stars of promotion + initial pull. That is 26 dupes! When the odds of pulling them from their banner is ~2.2% (I think, corrections if I'm wrong please) per individual draw. The expected amount of pulls is 1,182! (Please please correct me if I'm wrong I suck at maths)
And in Ovenbreak, usually you get the cookie once and use crystals and cookie potions to level them up when they're a new release. You can get 10,000 crystals a week just from the gold gem shop, and a ton of cookie potions basically everywhere...
oh right, this was about filler updates, not about how unfair CRK is. Yeah, Ovenbreak just handles its stories better. Not only does it have multiple different main stories at once, which allows for more variety, it has more filler updates, which allows time to rest in between lore drops.
While the Timeline of Fate does have branching paths and POVs, they're all connected. While the main stories of the Nova Cookies and the Martial Tarts are not really connected.
If you're not interested in Kingdom's main story, you're really out of luck. In Ovenbreak, you at least of have options.
Please not I'm not referring to Ovenbreak as a paragon of gaming or Cookie Run in general, I have my gripes (the Story Key system...) but it's a bit more digestible than Kingdom imo.
I can't really consider myself a casual Ovenbreak player, but I can consider myself a casual Kingdom player. Consider these just some gripes and confusions at Kingdom. I'm not saying I'm the paragon of Cookie Run opinions either.
