Fun design exercise in making species swap versions of the ROTTMNT turtles. Playing around with these freshwater turtle boys on a spectrum between fully on land tortoises, like my OC Jaybird the Indian Star Tortoise. And mostly in the water sea turtles, like my redesign of Venus De Milo.
It's interesting to research and consider a few things adapting each designs.
Each one's size (finding the biggest ones for Raph and near smallest for Mikey, there are smaller freshwater turtles than the ornate box). And type (Donnie must be flat at all costs, don't judge me.)
The environments of species affecting color. Freshwater being most saturated with pond, lake and river environments. On land tortoises being earthy tones to blend into dirt, rocks, and tall grass. Cooler soft palettes with the sea with darker shades on top (to look like the deeper sea when looking down on it) and lighter shades under them (looking like the sunlight surface of the water when looking up at it) depending on what angle a fish is looking at it from. And how to adapt that animal to fit with the redesign of each character. Hopefully I did an OK job. But overall, it was fun to stretch my brain a bit.
