so, now mel's forced to not only fly home to chicago but to invite her co-workers to her aunt's wedding who they've never even heard of.

and she's nervous. because she'll know they want to go (because, if anything, it's a weekend off work). and because well her family's insane. separate, they're fine. but put 'em all together and it's a shitshow. most of the time at least, they have their moments.

the next morning, frank's trailing behind her almost instantly after she enters work. "how did i not know you were from chicago, mel?" "nobody knows i'm from chicago, frank." "but, i'm your second best friend. i should know." frank heard from becca who texted him almost immediately after she learned.

as expected, her co-workers are all excited about the wedding and to meet mel's family. mel tries to explain her family tree full of cousins, "cousins" ("what are "cousins?" dennis asks. "they've been around the family so long they're family in all but blood," mel responds.), aunts and uncles, nieces and nephews, and extras ("extras?" robby asks. "ex-wives, adoptees from ex-wives. ex-wives new spouses.") but there are so many she ends up making a fifty slide-powerpoint titled "the king family tree 2.0"

and with all her preparation, when the wedding rolls around and they've all flown out on her aunt's new rich fiancés expense, nothing prepares them for the true chaos of the kings.

within five minutes after landing, mel's cursed six times, ran into a friend invited to the wedding, and ducked behind frank to avoid an ex.

but nothing compares to the reception where mel gets into a rather physical fight with a long-time enemy; a drunk uncle gets set on fire; several arguments break out over decade-long issues; and several women arrive at the wedding wearing white.
