So during my first dnd campaing, which was Castlevania based, I was playing Paladin of the Church, which led to the following bit, just as we entered the castle:

Dm: …And to the left, you see a hooded man sitting on a flying carpet, playing a gold fiddle

Ranger: I go to say “Hi, Im Kaito, who are you and what are you doing here?”

Mysterious hooded: Hello there travelers, we dont get many visitors around these parts, my name is Light and I’m but a simp-

Me,half jokingly half serious: Oh, hey nice to meet you Lucifer, kinda surprise you’re here.

DM: ……….so the man just sighs, and reveals himself as Lucifer, former prince of darkness, and former ruler of castlevania

Warlord: Wait doesn’t he have to roll or something to know?

DM: He’s a Paladin of the Church, The first thing they teach you in paladin school is about Lucifer, that it means Beautiful Light and his betrayal……There was going to be this whole bit of his identity being revealed later, but that’s scrapped.

Me: Well you shouldn’t have named him Light and given him a golden fiddle

We just started a new campaign, this time we began as slaves in a battle royal against 3 gladiators.

Cleric: rolls to attack and misses

Gladiator 1 (6'2" with halberd): HAHAHA puny human I will crush you! No one can topple The Wall!

Our 5ft tall half orc ranger child: “I don’t need to topple the wall if I can climb it!” rolls an athletics check to scale the gladiator, passes, then proceeds to attack his exposed neck and rolls a 17 and a nat 20 on a dual short sword attack and nearly removes The Walls head from his body.

Ok. I’m tired of the typical vampire, werewolf and fairy.I’m also tired of the occidental-centrism in mythology. Hence, this list. 

I tried to included as many cultural variants as I could find and think of. (Unfortunately, I was restricted by language. Some Russian creatures looked very interesting but I don’t speak Russian…) Please, add creatures from your culture when reblogging (if not already present). DM: You see an elk run in front of your party, before it’s shot by a spear coming in a direction from in front of you. A man appears from the tall grass and, with one hand pulls his spear out of the fallen and dead elk. He looks up at your party, and then, goes like this. *covers face in hand*

Barbarian: We’ve been hunting this elk for several days now….

Ranger: dude okay we’re just passing through, we don’t want the elk, please don’t–

Me: WAIT. I got this. Okay, ready. *to the barbarian* We… are a hunger-based hallucination.

Entire party: *goes silent*

DM: …. roll Deception.

Me: already ahead of you–pleaseworkpleaseworkpleasework *rolls an 8* goddammit.
