No harm done for romanogers 🥺
Anon, this one got me. Literally this needs to be a whole thing, but I am the worst at that! Maybe one day... anyways (linked the inspiration below, again all these verses are so good!)
No Harm Done- (soulmates are not able to hurt each other physically)
Things are turning up for Steve after losing his best friend, he nearly died saving the world, but lucky Howard managed to find him and fish him out of the ice in one piece. He rescheduled his date with Peggy, who he believes is his soulmate, where she smiled through his terrible dancing the entire night. Now he along with the Howling Commandos are hard at work trying to rid the world of what’s left of Hydra, what he doesn’t expect is to find another organization that may be just as evil. He’s never heard of The Red Room with their Black Widow program, but the more information he learns, the more he’s determined to put an end to them as well. They separate young girls to train them to become assassins, an asset to use once they’re of age, cold blooded and willing to do anything to meet their objective.
They’re nearly impossible to locate when they know they’re being watched, but he managed to get a glimpse of one of their top agents. Her face was hidden behind a mask, but her red hair was left out in the open giving him something to follow. She’s fast, faster than he is, always able to slip just out of reach as she ignores his shouts asking her to stop running. It must be the version of the serum running in her veins to give her these quick reflexes, as well as years of gruesome training. He shakes the thoughts away as he gains some momentum running down the hill right at her tail. His hand makes contact with her forearm sending both of them tumbling down the bottom, it was only a short distance, they’re back on their feet almost immediately. Face to face with nowhere to run, it seems they would have to engage in hand to hand combat. He doesn’t want to hurt her necessarily, but he also knows that she won’t be pulling her punches, maybe there’s a way he can talk her down.
“Ma’am, please, I just want to talk.”
“I know who you are Captain, let’s not drag this out any longer.”
“You don’t have to do this.”
“You don’t know anything about me.”
“You saved that little girl in the alleyway, you probably could’ve gotten away if you didn’t help her, but you did. That means something.”
“I’m not a good person, you’ll learn this the hard way.”
He anticipates her attack as he adjusts his position except the strike is never delivered, they’re both in shock as she seems to almost be forced back before she could hit him. He’s not sure what’s going on, but he sees an opening and he tries to take it, except he can’t seem to touch her either. They both try again to make a move, but nothing happens. It can’t be, no, this can’t be true.
“I can’t hurt you… that means…”
“No, no, no. This isn’t real.”
This time when he takes a step towards her without any intention of causing her physical harm, his feet allow him to move into her space, she backs away trying to keep some distance. This is unbelievable, who would’ve ever thought this would happen. She can’t accept this, she won’t, she tries to run away again, but he has her cornered. The way he’s looking at her takes her breath away, he takes his helmet off dropping it on the ground as he reaches for her mask. The gentle touch of his hands on her face has her frozen to her spot until he removes the only barrier keeping her hidden from him. Blue eyes meet green and a spark ignites, a warm feeling floods through their bodies as they examine each other, watching the way their eyes seem to light up even more now that they’re so close together.
“I’m Steve, and I think you’re my soulmate.”
She doesn’t know why she gives him her real name instead of an alias, so what if he’s the one? They’re on opposite sides, it isn’t meant to be, just fate being cruel as usual. She won’t be swayed by anyone, but then he smiles and she swears she can feel the butterflies erupting in her stomach. This is a dangerous game they’re playing, nothing good can come out of this. It’s impossible to fight this attraction, especially now that she has a face and a name to keep in her heart.
“You should go Steve, before they see you.”
“I can’t. Go. They know that you were following me, I was only supposed to keep you distracted until I can get away. They’re on the way here now to get me, you need to leave.”
“I’ve finally found you, I can’t leave you behind.”
“I can take care of myself, besides I’m sure we’ll meet again soon.”
She smiles taking her mask from his left hand to put it back into place. Her hand lingers a moment longer than necessary before she pulls away to bid him goodbye. Now that they’ve met, nothing is going to stop them from seeing each other again; she’s spent years looking for an opportunity to bring down the place that made her a weapon, it hasn’t been easy on her own. Luckily she has backup now, and it happens to be Captain America himself.
