hi okay we've seen some posts about this floating around and i wanna clear up what this means before any misinfo spreads too far.
if you are in a country like the UK or australia with recent age verification laws, this changes nothing. if you are NOT in any of those countries, this will work the same way their age verification does.
on discord, this DOES NOT outright block access to the app. it will prevent you from accessing channels marked as age-restricted, and it will prevent you from viewing images that the automatic image detection software deems as "adult content". which is annoying, but that software doesn't pick up on too much. also, it doesn't stop you from sharing images with third party hosting services lol
again, you DO NOT NEED TO VERIFY TO CONTINUE USING DISCORD. DMs will work fine. most servers will work fine.
do not verify. you do not need to. don't let this become normalized. just continue using the app. find ways of noncompliance. show them how worthless this is.
My personal A Christmas Carol adaptation gripe is that Fred is usually glossed over, if not completely ignored, during the finale. Like, I get it: you need to wrap things up quickly, and the Cratchits are important, we all want to know their lives will be better and Tiny Tim will live. But Fred represents a form of reconciliation that's as important to Scrooge as his newfound benevolence.
Fred is Scrooge's only living relative, the only child of his late younger sister Fan, who we see only briefly but who the young Scrooge obviously loved very much. Dickens never says how or when Fan dies, but the description of her as "a delicate creature, whom a breath might have withered" leads the reader to presume she died young, and very likely as a result of giving birth to Fred (which would go a long way towards explaining Scrooge's coldness towards the young man). But even more important than their blood tie is the fact that Fred is the only person who has not completely given up on Scrooge.
Scrooge's isolation from humanity and human kindness is near-total when we first encounter him. Complete strangers recoil from his manner. His business colleagues care so little for him that they wouldn't attend his funeral. Bob Cratchit is willing to raise a glass to his employer in the spirit of Christmas, but his family is very reluctant to join in--just the mention of Scrooge throws a pall on their holiday cheer. Only Fred greets his uncle with a smile, invites him to Christmas dinner even though his every overture of kindness is met with the harshest dismissal. Yes, he laughs at Scrooge's sour disposition and miserly ways, but he has no malice in his heart for the old man, only pity--pity for a lonely, empty existence that he makes an effort to brighten in spite of Scrooge's resistance to it. And opening Scrooge's eyes up to that welcoming warmth and compassion is every bit as important as opening them to the humble poverty of the Cratchits.
When Scrooge makes amends with Bob, he is confident--confident enough to pull a small prank at his expense--because at the end of the day he is still in a position of authority and influence over him, even if that influence will now be used to better purpose. But Fred? He asks nothing, needs nothing from his uncle. Despite Scrooge sneering that he's "poor enough" he's clearly living comfortably, and doesn't expect to benefit from his uncle's wealth either during or after Scrooge's life. Scrooge knows he doesn't have a leg to stand on with his nephew; he literally told Fred to go to Hell the last time they spoke, and he accepts Fred's dinner invitation with absolute trepidation. He paces in front of Fred's house for a long time before he has the courage to knock on the door; he refuses to let the maid announce him (which would allow Fred to turn him away without seeing him); he humbly asks to be allowed to stay, knowing he has done absolutely nothing to deserve it, knowing Fred could throw his "I'll see you in Hell" back in his face and not a single person would blame him for it.
But Fred doesn't. Fred welcomes his reformed uncle with open arms and open heart, makes him a part of his Christmas joy as if he'd always been there. And that shows Scrooge that he can accept the generosity of others as well as being generous himself, that the past he cannot change can still be forgiven, that it really isn't too late to live a better, fuller, happier life than the one he had. For Scrooge, such compassion must seem as miraculous as any ghost or spirit.
So let's hear it for nephew Fred, a man so full of Christmas cheer that there's room in his heart even for Ebenezer Scrooge.

Introducing the team "behind the mask" at DC Pride Fan Zine! With faces new and old, we are so excited to bring this year's issue to life. 💜

The first box says "TJ [he/him] is the creator and lead editor of the DC PRIDE: Fan Zine. He is an artist and writer, a lover of comics, an inker on three DC Comics titles, and the Editor-in-Chief of Studio Skye-Tiger. He has had a hand in the comic-creation process from start to finish: from pencils and inks to coloring, lettering and now (thanks to the 2025 Edition of DCPFZ) formatting and editing. He has also appeared as an artist in several charity fan projects such as the Gravity Falls Seasons zine, the Mystery Twins Mystery Bags, the Hunky Drifters zine and the Tales of Arcadia zine." The second box says "Roy [they/he/she] is joining us for a second year as a social media editor! They are a writer and have been reading comics for most of their life. They have previously worked on fan projects as a mod (Symphony: A Joey Wilson Zine & STARFIRE: A Fashion Zine) and as a contributor (Timber Big Bang), and are very excited to be back!" The third box says "Jared [he/they] is a nearly life-long resident of Massachusetts and has been an avid DC Comics fan for roughly half that time. He earned an Associates Degree in a Creative Writing Concentration and enjoys exploring themes of queerness and found family in the genres of science fiction, science fantasy, creative and graphic nonfiction. In 2024, he grew tired of waiting on DC Comics official to contribute Kate Godwin/Coagula’s story after her resurrection in the DC Pride 2024 Rachel Pollack Tribute, and so wrote the story himself as part of the 2025 DC Pride Fan Zine with artist LadyG, “Walking Through The Wreckage.” When he’s not writing or making comics and zines, you can find him thinking about writing and making comics and zines, walking and working outdoors, and popping in and out of the Boston area. He is still waiting on some kind of new Doom Patrol book from DC, preferably one with Kate on the team." It has a cartoon in a circle to the left.
The fourth box says "Arcade [he/they] is joining the Social Media team this year as a Graphics Editor! Arcade is a writer, cosplayer, and artist, and has worked on several zines before, both as moderator and contributor. A few of the zines he's participated in include the MCYT Couture Zine, the Empiropedia, Lamplighter: Hidden Secrets of Kepler, and this very zine! Arcade is newer to the world of DC, but has gotten thoroughly obsessed in the time he's been a part of the community!" The fifth box says "Kane [he/they] is back as the communications manager this year! He is a recreational writer and artist, and delighted by the opportunity to help a project like this come together. The sixth box says "Gray [they/them] has joined the communications team for this year! They were a writer for the last DC Pride Fanzine and are looking forward to helping the project in a different capacity this time around. They have worked on several other zines as a writer, mostly in the Gravity Falls fandom, and have been writing fanfiction for over 20 years. Two years ago Gray fell face-first back into DC comics after over a decade absence, and hasn't quite managed to escape the gravitational pull of whatever Gotham City has going on. When they aren't yelling about Batman to anyone who will listen or writing excessive amounts of fanfiction, Gray can be found in their sewing room, hunched gargoyle-like over their faithful sewing machine." The seventh box says "Rowan [he/him] has joined the communications team this year after working as an inker in last year’s zine! He’s excited to be working onboard this brilliant project, having only been a contributor to zines in the past. He was a writer for the Legacies! While nowadays he’s busy working on his psychology dissertation, creating fanart and fanfic for dc comics has always been one of his favourite past times and he hopes to create more once he’s graduated!"
