i feel like the title is kinda cringe... but i just really like puns
honestly this fic takes the cake for the amount of time it took me to write ⠀
the sound of a soft male voice caused you to snap your head up. you had been so immersed in your novel that you didn't realize someone had come in. you sat up straight in your chair, immediately putting on your professional face.
"oh, hi! sorry about that," you said, feeling awkward as you scratched the back of your head sheepishly. "welcome to in bloom flowers! how may i help you..." your voice faltered as you finally took in the man in front of you.
he was, needless to say, gorgeous. his eyes were big and boba-like, and seemed to sparkle. the warm sunlight hit him perfectly, creating an arc of golden glow that lay on his hair and the side of his face. you also couldn't help but feel like you'd seen him somewhere.
the man merely chuckled at your antics, as if used to the gawking. "i was just passing by, and the fragrance of these daffodils lured me in."
snapping out of your mesmerization, you returned a smile. "ah yes, daffodils. that's a great choice, sir. did you know that daffodils actually symbolize hope, new beginnings, and good luck?" the botany nerd in you seemed to take over as you started ranting about daffodils like they held the answers to all of life's issues.
it wasn't until you realized the man had been silently staring at you as you spoke that you realized you were blabbering. you flushed. "sorry...um, could i get you something?"
he simply smiled, as if reassuring you. "no worries, that was quite interesting. i think i've learned more about flowers today than ever before." he paused here, thoughtful. "i guess i'll get a bouquet of those daffodils in respect to you then."
you nodded swiftly, gathering five bedewed daffodils and securing them with wires before placing them on a sheet of kraft paper and wrapping it all together, sealing it with some tape, adding a pink ribbon as a finishing touch.
you held it up for the man to see.
"it's beautiful, thank you so much." he smiled again, his dimples showing. you got the sense that this guy really liked to smile. it was cute.
"no problem! that'll be ten dollars." you calculated, hitting the buttons on the cash register with practiced hands.
the man paid, waving at you before he left. and as you watched his figure make his way out the door, you couldn't help wondering if you would ever see him again.
it was another sunny afternoon. you were working your shift, diligently spraying the fresh flowers with water and walking around, ensuring everything was in order.
suddenly, the door opened with a jingle. you looked up to see two girls around your age—maybe slightly younger—walking in. they were chatting freely and giggling.
you smiled at them and delivered your line, "hey, welcome to in bloom flowers!"
the two girls smiled back, and walked around a little, observing the flowers, before their eyes settled on the daffodils you had talked about with the man from yesterday.
"i think those are daffodils...?" one of them said, sounding unsure.
the two girls turned to you for confirmation, and you nodded encouragingly. "mhm, that's right."
"i'm pretty sure those are taehyun's favorite! we should get some for the concert. i think i could make something with it." the other girl said, then, turning to you, "could we get a bouquet of this?"
"of course," you said, collecting the daffodils and performing your routine again. as you gave the flowers to the girls, you noticed a keychain with a photo on one of the girls' bags.
"oh, i like your keychain!" you said, pointing to it.
"oh, thank you! it's taehyun from txt..." the girl lifted it to show the picture more clearly. you leaned in, interested, only to see printed on a small card, the man from yesterday?
as the girls left, still talking to each other animatedly about some 'txt concert' from snippets of their conversation that flowed to your ears, you quickly pulled out your phone and searched up 'taehyun txt'. the more you scrolled, the more shocked you were as you realized just who you had been talking to. you clicked on an instagram profile, shocked to see the newest post, dated back to yesterday, to be a picture of him posing with the same daffodil bouquet you had made him the day before.
the bell chimed again, and you looked up, eyes locking on the figure that was becoming familiar. speak of the devil.
you decided to test the waters a bit. "hey, taehyun, right?"
he blinked, then laughed softly. “i guess i'm not as subtle as i thought."
you shrugged, suddenly hyper-aware of how small the shop was, a feeling that came up often whenever he stood in close proximity. "i suppose. i wasn't stalking you or anything though, not really." you explained. "some fans of your group came in earlier..." you added quickly.
he hummed, his gaze drifting around the store before landing, once more, on the daffodils.
“still my favorite,” he said, sounding almost sheepish. “could I get another bouquet?”
“of course,” you said, already reaching for them.
this time, you worked a little more carefully, aware of his presence in a way you hadn’t been before. he thanked you again, just as polite, just as warm.
as he picked up the bouquet, he looked back at you one more time, shooting you his iconic warm smile. "well, i hope to see you maybe becoming our fan in the future? it was nice coming to your shop to rest a bit these two days." with that, he waved, and he was gone.
you stared at the door, deep in thought once more. you sighed softly and looked down fondly at the yellow daffodil pots. yeah—you were definitely becoming a fan.
