This is going to sound real sad and fucked up but one of the more unexpected adjustments I've had to make coming out of these TRA communities has been receiving like... normal emotional support. It's kind of hard to describe if you've not been in it, but because the vast majority of people in the "movement" are mentally ill or neurodivergent in some way and because the community itself discourages growth and healing, a tremendous amount of spaces that buy into gender ideology are sort of just misery echo chambers.
Imagine a group therapy session for young adults with personality disorders, severe unresolved trauma, bipolar disorder etc. but that has no facilitator, no trained psychiatric professional guiding the session. These sessions meet regularly but there is never anyone there who is knowledgeable about these problems and is capable of providing internal and external resources to the participants, or guiding them onto a path towards real healing.
What you'd end up with is a group of people who are attached to each other, who may care for each other, but who do not have much to offer each other in the way of meaningful support. Always in crisis themselves, they have nothing left to give to someone else. Deep in their own warped, traumatized perspectives of their world they're unable to offer any kind of reframing. They don't know how to provide support to others because they've never received that support. They don't know what it is, or what it looks like. All the group can really do is commiserate with each other, over and over and over again. Over time as their symptoms worsen they become increasingly self-absorbed, so preoccupied with and trapped within their own catastrophic internal lives that they can no longer see outside of them. You can feel their inability to empathize with you. After all, they can't even empathize with themselves.
When you reach out you'll be met with a series of "I'm sorry's," perhaps suggestions for a distraction, but eventually you'll hear nothing at all as you've all run out of comforting things to say to each other. I think this is generally true but also especially true for me, as I am so mentally ill I don't fit in well with other people who aren't also severely mentally ill, so I would actively seek out spaces which both bought into the ideology and were explicitly for those of us with the most extreme forms of these illnesses. Eventually I would stop seeking out these spaces altogether as I'd come to feel like they were actively making me worse.
When you actually attend group therapy in real life, you're usually heavily discouraged from befriending the other participants outside of the sessions. If you're a young, lonely person this feels unnecessarily restrictive but it makes a lot of sense. The problem with bringing lots of mentally ill people together is that they will find belonging and commiseration, but they'll also almost certainly trigger each other relentlessly as they try to stabilize. The sad reality is that we just don't tend to make great friends to each other much of the time because of our symptoms, and in a group dynamic this can become pretty catastrophic if left unchecked. This is in the case of a real group therapy session where there are trained facilitators supervising and guiding; now imagine how much worse it becomes without them and without ANY rules to provide structure. It gets pretty ugly, to say the very least. Every time I come on here and I shout some unpleasant feelings onto my blog and yall reply with kindness and support I'm honestly surprised. I kind of forgot it was supposed to work like that. I don't really know what to do with it or how to react to it. In most of these dynamics despite how unwell I am I became the one who doled out support because of my conditioning to care for others, and it feels strange and unfamiliar to receive it. But it's also really nice. I'm so used to screaming out and hearing nothing in return, just silence or maybe a "that sucks :(". It's surprising and weird in a good way to imagine that other people are out there genuinely wishing me well and feeling like, actual compassion for me. Thank you.
I WANT A GIRLFRIEND
STOP ADDING âOR A BOYFRIENDâ THIS IS A LESBIAN ONLY EVENT
Before responding, please visit our F.A.Q.
What tipped us off
The negative use of âboyfriendâ in this context matched a common pattern among radical feminists to posit attraction to men, as well as men in general, as deeply inferior.
The presentation of attraction to women, including queer attraction to women, as being something experienced only by lesbians, and not by, for example, bisexual women was also a red flag.
What proved the concern was valid
+Â Delegitimizes the identities of a variety of genders and sexualities.
+Â Delegitimizes the identities of other lesbians who donât meet arbitrary standards.Â
+ Mocks people for using self degrading humour, on the grounds that their sexuality is unacceptable.
+ Believes that people should not create new language to describe phenomena they experience.
+ Engages with other radical feminist dogwhistling posts*.
+ Believes that women in relationships with other women who do not identify as lesbians do not and cannot describe the harassment and oppression they face as lesbophobia.
+ Denies the possibility that people for whom performing a high standard of femininity is necessary or preferable may experience specific forms of backlash for doing so, a belief which disproportionately targets sex workers and transfeminine people.
+ Claims that- solely on the basis of sexual identity- some people tend to be unusually homophobic, and that creating their own language to describe their experiences is an act of homophobia when done by these people.Â
+ Mocks people who attempt to establish boundaries and protect themselves by others, as well as blames violence faced by people on victims rather than the violators.
+ Rejects and mocks people who have relationships they personally are not comfortable with, as well as rejecting the centuries long history of association between those people and queer society.
+ Claims that queer organizations should not be allowed or encouraged to focus on the subjects chosen by the members of that organization, but should instead center on other topics.
+ Alleges child molestation against fictional characters; these characters are legally and sexually adults, in addition to not actually being real.
In what ways are these actions concerning
The policing of other peopleâs language stops people from having discussions about their experiences or begin to address community problems directly. This prohibits building strong communities and enables exploitative and abusive people to exert control over queer spaces. It exacerbates existing divisions and makes queer spaces unsafe for a large number of people.
Accusing queer people, especially queer men, of child molestation when they are engaging in consensual, noncriminal relationships directly contributes to the death, legal limitation, and physical abuse of queer people. In modern times, it is especially popular a tactic among extreme right wing authoritarians who seek the extinction of queer people as a whole.Â
Denying people the ability to make fun of themselves and their own experiences is an abusive tactic that prevents people from understanding trauma and combatting oppression in their own lives.
Policing the gender expression of others is self-evidently transphobic, as well as sexist.
Additional notes:
*Although engaging with a dogwhistle is not necessarily evidence of radical feminist thoughts and beliefs, in the context of other posts and statements, it is an additional concern.
As always, the OP may not be a true and complete radical feminist, with all the political beliefs that entails. However, this post is presented in such a way as to make trans people, sex workers, and others often targetted by radical feminist and itâs descendant movements feel unsafe. Followup research revealed that that discomfort was warranted.

a lesbian: *makes a funny one-liner post*
a kweer: Actually here are ten paragraphs on how you are making men feel deeply inferior, are gatekeeping attraction to women and accuse kweer men of child molestation. Also we camped on your blog to nitpick your posts to make a callout on your joke post sound at least a little bit more serious. Also you are sexist and abusive and transphobic and a TERF. Also you are contributing to physical abuse and deaths of thousands kweer people by making those posts. Also you are
Get over yourself you narcissist
This whole text has That Tone, you know, the one ppl (mostly straight men) use to appear serious, factual and authoritative even though they are writing/saying bullshit. All this because a woman wrote âI want a girlfriendâ written in rainbow colours.
This is another level.
Op: I want a gf lol
That person: In this essay I will explain why lesbianism is evil
This is so 1984 oh my god
Men absolutely love it when a woman is a horrible person. They can be violently misogynistic without receiving any sort of backlash because everyone thinks itâs valid when itâs not. Iâve seen men say some terribly vile things about Courtney love and Taylor Swift. They arenât the best people, fair enough, but saying that theyâre evil and that they should die? Crazy. They donât even say that stuff about pedophiles and rapists. They get so happy when a woman does something shitty itâs like it fuels them.
âwoman doesnât have a set definitionâ is a very privileged take. you are able to happily sit in a position where you get to act like woman has such a vague definition and you act like this should be accepted worldwide. but ask a woman in a third world country what it means to be a woman and what makes them a woman, and itâll be pretty fucking obvious. women are oppressed because of their sex and have been for centuries. iâm not letting some males with hurt feelings overrule that because they canât piss in the womanâs bathroom.

I do think the ability to emoji-react is a net win for human communication. not only does it give you an outlet for 'I see and acknowledge this but don't have a verbal response' but it also adds a pleasing alethiometer element to things
my coworker announces that he's off to the dentist. someone reacts with a tooth emoji. is this a statement of dentist solidarity? a wish for my coworker to return with more (or fewer?) teeth than he set out with? simple word association? who can say

Sally Ride is remembered for her pioneering journey into space, but a new documentary reveals another dimension of the astronautâs story.Â
Rideâs life partner Tam OâShaughnessy opens up about their 27-year romance in Sally, which premiered at the 2025 Sundance Film Festival in January and will debut on Nat Geo June 16 and stream on Disney+ beginning June 17. The documentary covers Rideâs rise at NASA to become the first American woman in space in 1983 as well as her lesser-told love story, which started in the â80s.Â

Every time amber heard gets brought up as the butt of a joke I am obviously expected to agree with and accept, I face this internal battle. Like itâs often this aside in conversation where I donât want to derail the larger point, depending on the person. But also. Did you know it was a civil case? Did you know she was sued over the op-Ed about dv that did not mention Depp by name? Did you know about their age gap when they first met? Did you know about his extensive, and expensively suppressed, history of violence and abuse? Did you know about the perfume in the bathroom during the trial? Have you read The Gift of Fear (and thus know that certain abusers prolong abuse within the courts)? Did you ever consider that the inundation of reels and other short form videos during that joke of a trial, was by design? Did you know I donât much use Facebook, or YouTube, but whether logged out or logged in, all my suggestions were cruelly mocking her?? Did you know about the Saudi money? Did you know we all have a predisposition to savage women? Did you know we are all excited when we have an excuse to direct misogyny towards a rationalized target? Did you know expressing misogyny is conditioned to inherently feel good? Did you ever wonder if you fell for a scheme on a scale beyond the comprehension of the ordinary individual, within scope, expense, and effort? Nah sheâs probably just a bitch.
