Chapter Nine of I Watch the Ripples Change Their Size is LIVE!!!
I have to apologise for this chapter, sorry for the trauma guys. This chapter is for anyone who's ever said theyre tired when rlly theres something deeper going on
The rest of the day passed in a blur of avoidance, with Remus going nowhere near the Common Room, and especially not the dorm or library because anyone would know to look for him there first. He chose instead to spend his hours tucked behind the Greenhouses, reading a collection of Muggle books as he caught the downwind of some Seventh-years smoking something that didn't smell like cigarettes. He didn't see Sirius, or James, or Peter – or even Severus – despite peering through the windows now and again across the lawn. He thought he might see them at least once, and he wondered ceaselessly what they might be up to. Maybe it was easier for them all this way, for Remus to stay out of the way; it didn't seem as though they were looking for him.
By the time the sun started to cast glorious shades of orange and pink across the black lake, Remus had finished his selection of books and decided he ought to make a move. When he stood up, he was a little unsteady on his feet and needed a moment to lean against the side of a greenhouse to steady himself. He gathered up his things and made his way alone to the Hospital Wing, the firewhisky plan sitting forgotten somewhere in the back of his mind, along with everything else about the night that he'd been almost looking forward to.
"Are you alright, dear?" Madam Pomfrey pressed for the second time as the two of them made their way down to the Whomping Willow.
"Hm?" Remus hadn't really been paying attention to her, mostly zoning out as she spoke about her patients of the day. "Oh, yeah." He gave her a nod that he hoped was convincing, but she flashed him that pitying smile they always did, and he knew he needed to improve on his acting.
"I know you're worried about your transformations over the Summer, dear, but I trust your parents fully."
"No, no," Remus responded quickly, trying not to engage in this line of thought. His father placed him in Ministry accommodations during his full moons, and Remus resented it almost as much as the Shrieking Shack. "It's not that. I'm just tired."
Madam Pomfrey seemed happy with that, used to Remus' fatigue around the full moon. As they approached the willow, she gave her usual talk about waiting for her in the morning, and that she'd bring him some spare clothes in case, but that she'd been pleased with how he'd been taking his transformations lately. Remus let her finish and gave her a brusque goodbye before settling down on his bed.
He wondered for a moment if his friends were there, but a minute of silence confirmed what he'd already assumed. Remus would be alone for the moon.

Guys I just got a bot comment under the tumblr post I made promoting the latest chapter of my fic and it’s so out of the ordinary (as opposed to all the other bot comments I get and see… I’m getting so tired) because clearly my chapter was fed into the AI because it talks about specific details of my fic and then ends with them trying to show me fan fiction on discord?? I’ve never seen a bot so thorough before lol if u wanna see what the comment said then look in the comments of this

Really excited about this chapter because it recounts Snape’s Worst Memory!!! Read below for a snippet ^^
James and Sirius were taunting Severus, chastising him for his hair and his nose, asking rhetorical questions about the exam. They sounded vicious, more vicious than they usually did when they pulled pranks on Slytherins. Remus supposed it was the built-up anger from the incident a few weeks ago in the Great Hall. Several people, who had formed a circle around the spectacle now, laughed as Snape was ridiculed, and Wormtail had started to cackle. Severus kept trying, futilely, to stand up, but the curse was still active, and he couldn't move his legs.
"You– wait," Severus panted, managing to back away just a little bit, shuffling along the grass.
"Wait?" Sirius scoffed, "Wait for what? For you to wipe your nose on us?" He laughed, cruelly, as James gave him a high-five of approval. Severus glowered at them with pure loathing, letting out a stream of curses as he tried helplessly to reach for his wand, which was still several feet behind him.
"Scourgify!" James said swiftly, shutting off the stream of curses as Severus' mouth filled with soap. Remus knew, cruelly, where James must have gotten that idea from, and saw as she came running up the hill.
"Leave him alone!" Lily Evans shouted from across the lawn, panting as she pulled out her wand, running as fast as she could towards the commotion. Remus suddenly felt a wave of guilt, but remained strongly where he was, only able to watch.
When Remus finally did emerge from the shower, drying his hair roughly with the towel, he could see his three friends sitting patiently together on James' bed. They all gave him an awkward smile in unison, and Remus braced himself for whatever was about to happen. He strode over to his trunk and pulled a fresh school shirt out, pulling it over and beginning to do up his buttons.
"So?" He asked, trying to be nonchalant.
"The thing is–" Peter started, wringing his hands.
"Since the full moon is tomorrow," James added, "we wanted to talk to you about… us coming with you." Remus paused on his last button, looking up at his friends for a moment, before looking back down. He'd done his buttons wonkily. Fuck. He started to unbutton his shirt again, frustrated.
"Right." Was all he said as his heart started to race.
"Thing is, mate, we think it would be good!" James continued.
"Yeah," Sirius jumped in. "Werewolves only hurt humans, not other animals! Maybe, if you had friends with you, then you wouldn't… hurt yourself so much." Remus had grown less self-conscious about his scars around his friends, but suddenly felt small and exposed, and quickly did up the rest of his buttons before pulling a large jumper on over his head.
"So…" Peter said after a few awkward seconds of silence, "What do you say?"
"Uh…" Remus looked at his friends: James hopeful, Peter anxiously fidgeting, Sirius watching him with unwavering stillness. He looked down at his jumper sleeves and pulled them over his hands, shrinking into himself as he came to terms with what he was going to say next.
"Alright then."

I Watch the Ripples Change Their Size – Chapter Six
Happy Sunday my loves, it's upload day tomorrow! Here's a sneaky look into what's to come! After such a depressing chapter last week, you'll be pleased to hear that this chapter is RIDDLED with Wolfstar!!! Anyone a fan of the forced proximity trope?
“Hold on–” Remus said, without thinking. “It’s only under half of your collar.” Sirius stopped, and Remus stepped forward, lifting the collar himself. He straightened the tie and made sure to adjust the knot in the process, acting with practised efficiency; he’d done it a hundred times for himself, so Remus didn’t think about it until he was already doing it. His fingers were working at the knot when he became suddenly aware of how close they were standing.
Sirius had gone still, not even fidgeting or complaining, just allowing Remus to work his magic. It felt strange, after weeks of careful distance, to be this close. Remus could see a shadow just below Sirius’ jaw from this angle, no doubt left there by Mary, and quickly finished the task, smoothing Sirius’ collar down one last time.
“There.” He stepped back, self-consciously adjusting the strap of his bag on his shoulder, newly heavy with his freshly topped-up inkwell. “McGonagall will have to find something else to complain about.” Giving Sirius an awkward, wonky smile, Remus turned to the dormitory door and started towards it.
Sirius looked at him for a moment, his lips slightly parted in shock, before he remembered himself and his mouth curved into a smirk.
“Cheers, Moony!” He sang, following his friend out of the room.
