Anyway in the meantime let me indulge in childhood friends lethan pls. They’re neighbors or something and grow up together, practically attached at the hip. So much so that they constantly have to have sleepovers bc they refuse to sleep without the other at night but to their parents endearment and frustration. Anyway they’ve got a whole shtick going on where Leon’s a cop/agent and Ethan’s his right hand man/hacker man and it’s cute. At one point they get pretend married bc they over hear Leon’s parents say that they married their best friend and they gotta you know, bc they’re best friend ofc and it’s the law according to these six year olds.
It’s all fun and games till Leon loses his parents. He changed completely ofc and falls into depression at a real young age but it never deters Ethan who sticks by his side regardless if Leon no longer wants to play games or joke around anymore. Ethan it patient and kind, and that’s a big help in getting Leon to overcome his tragedy. And slowly but surely he and Ethan are watching movies in the dark together and sleeping over and laughing together again.
It’s Leon who realizes his feelings for Ethan first (Ethan doesn’t follow until many years later). It’s so cliche and cheesy and Leon almost hates himself for it but their like 13 when they get caught in the rain and rush back home laughing the entire time. They’re both soaked and when Leon turns to look at Ethan he doesn’t think he’s ever seen something so beautiful in his life, and he can’t believe he’s been blind to the wonder that is Ethan winters till now. Ethan ofc remains oblivious and Leon has to endure nine years of awkward and painful yearning and pining. He’s well aware how sad he is the entire time.
Leon is Ethan’s first kiss (Leon wishes Ethan had been his) after Ethan admits to Cindy Lawson confessing to him and then inviting him to the school dance or something. He’s embarrassed when he admits he’s never kissed anyone and Leon offers to help him practice. Kissing Ethan is the best thing that’s ever happened to him, and he never forgets it.
Anyways they get older and reach their teens. Leon’s the more popular between them, it’s not that Ethan is unliked, he’s just more reserved in his nature. Besides Leon would pummel anyone who would even try to mess with Ethan. Still he always makes time for his best friend, never missing their movie nights or sleepovers(he doesn’t care if they’re too old damn it) till they graduate and Ethan goes to collage in Texas while Leon goes to the police academy. Making sure to call everyday, Leon is always excited to hear Ethan’s voice, tentatively listening to his every word while Ethan returns the favor. Leon’s still not over his feelings, even after dating on an off, not even when he’s with his current girlfriend. He’s relieved when his girlfriend breaks up with him really, but his heart is still heavy from his emotions towards Ethan. And after getting smashed he calls his best friend and admits everything, laughing through the confession and failing to notice Ethan’s stunned silence before he passes out.
And everything goes as is suppose to, except Ethan never gets the chance to see Leon again after everything and is left wondering what happened to him. Being the determined person he is though he spends years trying to find his long lost best friend, never giving up hope no matter what people tell him. Except Leon Kennedy seems to have been erased off the face of the earth and Ethan is left heart broken. Likewise Leon never stops thinking about the friend he left behind, nonetheless glad he can be sure he’s safe. He does yearly check ins on Ethan, even knows he’s trying to find him but he never relents knowing Ethan is safer away from him. No matter how much he wants to see him, even when Ethan gets married…and when that same wife goes missing leaving him a broken husk of a person. Ethan is safe and it’s enough.
Until Ethan goes missing too and it’s Leon’s turn to investigate. He’s frantic and worried until he finds out the truth and then his panic settles tenfold until he finds out Ethan Winters is alive and well and under Chris’ protection, and Leon can’t run anymore and he decides to pay Ethan and overdue visit.
