Hi speaking of complicated women what are your opinions on Grace Blackthorn
i believe i've already spoken about grace but i will always take any opportunity to yap about how snubbed we were because tell me why at first grace was introduced as this strange creepy girl cooking up evil things in this gothic house with her adoptive mother
then in tlh it was like oh woe is me i am being forced to do bad things and i am very sad. suddenly grace turned into tatiana's helpless victim instead of her partner in Evil Stuff. she became this rag doll with no agency over what she was doing instead of the powerful girl magnus met who could murder you for her own entertainment
and like, technically there's nothing wrong with this type of character. but the grace we were promised and the grace we got are NOT the same person and i will always be salty about that
her storyline could've been much more interesting if she wAs actually doing all of it willingly and also realized she was tatiana's victim. if she did have her agency and her own motives and still ended up hurt by tatiana
the grace we got is, in my opinion, a cardboard cutout of a character. and honestly not even that. a paper cutout. her character was so flimsy i am offended on her behalf
and i don't think the tlh cast should've forgiven her, let alone allowed her to be part of their group. i think she should've either died or become an iron sister. if cc really wanted grace to be a poor little girl with no control over anything ever she should've stuck to it the whole way and given grace a tragic ending
i guess what i'm angry about is that cc did not make grace a complicated woman
i can't think of any other media that has a sacred bond of friendship (pretty much like a platonic marriage) other than shadowhunters, and while i have a laundry list of problems with cassandra clare's writing i have to say she popped off with the whole parabatai thing
i understand people who ship heronstairs romantically but it just does not hit the same as the idea of these two just being so fucking weird you don't even know how to describe what they have going on. i was gonna start this post saying they were best friends on steroids but honestly they're not even that. they're on a dimension of relationship yet unfathomed by human minds. there's no label for this. queer platonic comes close but doesn't do it justice. they blur the lines of friendship and romanticism and obsession and brotherhood and soulmates in one big blender and then they get drunk on it and they go kill a demon or something and the rest of us are here like???? what was that??
and now i don't even remember the original point i was gonna make in this post. all i know is will and jem and jem and will. them and only them and no one has ever done it like them

i'm pretty sure you've asked me something like this before but i also have the memory of a fish and i forgot my answer so here is my thought process again:
- city of ashes: i looove the scene where simon crawls out of his grave and the scene where valentine kills the silent brothers. one of the creepiest tsc books i wish the others were this dark
- clockwork angel: i love will herondale who is a piece of shit and hurts everyone. yes i am mentally ill. when he made out with tessa while drunk on holy water after biting a freaking vampire??? he's so fucked up i love him. and then pushing tessa away and insulting her he's such an ass ugh i love him. but seriously tid in general had the potential to be sooo much darker and the beginning of clockwork angel with tessa being kidnapped and tortured is the perfect example of that. but i digress
- city of glass: sebastian being the key that valentine needed to be able to get into alicante had me GAGGED when i was 14 and i never got over that. valentine really had it all figured out. using sebastian as a trojan horse to make his way in I AM SICKKKK. the third mortal instrument being the lake is genuinely one of my favorite reveals. and valentine planning everything down to a T and then being defeated by his daughter who he hated brings me immense joy. and isabelle killing sebastian because his death just HAD to be on her hands after he killed her brother oh god. and then his body disappearing??? i am sickkkkkk. and clary coming up with the binding rune that is my GIRL. finding an ANGEL dying in the BASEMENT oh i love that scene. yes including the fuckass incest line by jace. and the key to wake up jocelyn being in a cookbook IN VALENTINE'S HOUSE because she knew that fucker would not read a cookbook is so funny. the prisoner in simon's next door cell being hodge oh that was goooodddd okay this is turning into a stream of consciousness and i will spare you the rest of my thougfts

I think most of us have seen and probably done that GIGANTIC tsc ship ranking on SORTR by @rhiannons-bird. What a fun thing that was, having to choose between Gabrily and KitTy... and Herongraystairs and Kieraktina... and Jessa and Wessa...
ANYWAYS- after doing some digging on SORTR to see if there were ones that only included the characters themselves, I realised that those only included the TV show version or only certain types of characters so that got me thinking: What if there was a SORTR with all the characters of TSC?- okay, not ALL of them obviously, but the major ones and a few notable ones (am i biased? Maybe :p)
If you want me to make things harder for everyone, feel free to ask me to throw in more items. Maybe make it 500 items πππ (we'd be stuck in sortr for hours on end if that were to happen lol)
Also I know TSC character showdowns exist from time to time but those are technically a team effort and the characters that win might not be your personal pick
With all that said- waste your time wisely, take a million breaks if needed, have fun and try not to kill each other over this!
Agajn, I don't expect ANYONE to finish this in one go. Actually I expect many to abandon it entirely halfway through (so surprise me lol)
