Hello!! I see that in some sentences, we use ์ ๋ง, but there are also sentences where we use ์ง์ง. So what are the differences between these two? Is ์ ๋ง used in front of the adjectives, and ์ง์ง is like how we say "ah", "oh", etc?
Hi! In my understanding, both ์ง์ง and ์ ๋ง have the same nuance -- they both mean "really" and are used the same way. I would say that I hear ์ง์ง used more when asking "really?" than ์ ๋ง, but ์ ๋ง can be used for that as well.
They can both be used as adverbs as well. For example, both of these sentences mean "you're really tall," and I'm pretty sure there's no difference in nuance:
ํค๊ฐ ์ง์ง ํฌ๋ค์.
ํค๊ฐ ์ ๋ง ํฌ๋ค์.
์ง์ง can be used in a way that ์ ๋ง cannot, however (at least I think). If you attach ์ to ์ง์ง, it meansย โrealโ orย โgenuineโ orย โauthentic.โ For example:
์ ์ง์ง์ ์ด๋ฆ์ ๋ฏผ์ง์์. = My real name is Minji.
So thatโs one way ์ง์ง differs from ์ ๋ง -- I donโt believe ์ ๋ง์ meansย โreal,โ but someone correct me if Iโm wrong! I hope this helps! ํ์ดํ !
