The Greatest Wealth is Mental Health: A self-development journey
@selfjourneythroughbuddhism
The purpose of this project is to engage in Buddhist practices and acquire knowledge from the literature as I embark on a self-journey to enlightenment and mindfulness. Hello I'm Sarah. As being one of the few people in my family to finish university or continuing education comes with great pressure. I am fortunate enough to have the support of my family and lucky to have such a great opportunity. I want to succeed and with the personality I have developed over my life I tend to worry, stress easily, be intolerant, impatient, over analyze, and overall become worked up over anything. I mean my friends and family also describe me as friendly, caring, kind, intelligent, and open-minded. But it is always the negative characteristics I focus on and want to change. The negative characteristics sometimes get in my way when I am trying to complete a task. About a year ago, I experienced the most difficult school year. I experienced academic overload, family struggles, nutrition and activity losses, and health issues. I had never experienced such an unbalanced phase in my life. This burned me out. I was unhappy and exhausted. It made me pessimistic, more intolerant, judgemental, and lastly disappointed with myself. Finally I told myself I needed an outlet or a practice that teaches me healthy ways of being. I need to shape my character, learn self-care, and develop a new insight. My journey of self-development begins here. And while, I am not perfect, my posts are for me mostly, but to also help anyone that feels they need to take a step in the right direction to take care of their mental and spiritual health. We often forget this part of ourselves, yet, it is the most important.
