Izuku can love without being in love. Izuku is very good at loving without being in love. It’s being in love he struggles with, because it requires him to hold space for himself and his own long-neglected feelings. Feelings he had to learn how to control because they were too big for him to hold unchecked. Feelings he thought would be a burden to everyone else around him. Feelings he only ever lost control of when one other person was threatened or hurt.

Izuku can love and care for Ochako, can understand her trauma better than anyone else, without being in love with her. Izuku can want to reconnect with her and want to build their friendship back up after years of quiet distance, without being in love with her. He can show genuine care and affection for her, genuine love, without being in love with her.
