December 12, 2014 - University of Florida Dream Defenders and Students for a Democratic Society had a die-in and blocked the doors of the O’Connell center right before a basketball game. Around 120 students and community members rallied for 2 1/2 hours in the cold as part of the #BlackLivesMatter and the #NoMoreBusinnessAsUsual movement. One of the most powerful chants was, “You only care about us when we are in jerseys!”Â

Hey Everyone, I'm posting this for everyone who is rushed and my not have time to make their own sign. These posters are for the solidarity protests for Mike Brown and Ferguson.  The process is super simple to print this out. 1. Go to a print shop and tell them you want to print an image that is 11x17. 2. Use one of their computers and download this file that I'm attaching. 3. The personnel will help you from there. I got a heavier paper and in color which means that one poster cost $1.79. However, you can print this black and white and on thinner paper to make it cheaper.

The action began at the Alachua county court house where students and community members marched to city hall where a round of speeches were given that condemned Israel’s collective punishment against Palestinians in gaza.
Also during the action the names of the two hundred plus killed in Operation Protective edge were read aloud.

Here’s the event description: Women’s equality has made positive gains but the world is still unequal. International Women’s Day celebrates the social, political and economic achievements of women while focusing world attention on areas requiring further action.
What does it mean to be a woman, to be a Palestinian, to be an activist? We live in a world where our stories are cast aside and marginalized, and we can easily lose sight of the fact that many of the struggles we face are inextricably linked. Come and hear stories from your fellow community members, students, and activists! This year, International Women’s Day falls on Saturday, March 8th. Come celebrate international women’s solidarity when you get back to Gainesville with Students for Justice in Palestine and Students for a Democratic Society! We will be having a joint panel and discussion about women’s activism in Palestine, a history of International Women’s Day, and a look at ongoing struggles, such as the current Rasmea Odeh case. This will be one of UF SJP’s first events for Palestinian Solidarity Month. We look forward to seeing you there!
University of Florida President Bernie Machen said Thursday he was proud of the commitment students have shown in support of tuition equity for unauthorized immigrant students and would join them in their push to change state law so they can pay in-state rates.

"University of Florida President Bernie Machen said Thursday he was proud of the commitment students have shown in support of tuition equity for unauthorized immigrant students and would join them in their push to change state law so they can pay in-state rates. "I am impressed with your depth of knowledge and your commitment to the issue, and I am proud that you are part of UF," Machen said after three students spoke to the board of trustees about what they described as the inequity of charging unauthorized students out-of-state tuition. Several student groups, including Students for a Democratic Society and Gators for Tuition Equity, have been demonstrating on behalf of unauthorized students who must pay rates that are four to five times higher than the state rate. They've persuaded the Student Senate to pass a resolution in support of legislation that would provide guidelines for unauthorized students who graduate from Florida high schools to receive waivers so they could pay in-state tuition."

This evening the University of Florida student senate voted in the historic resolution to allow Tuition Equity for undocumented students. Thank you all who came out, we have a long road ahead and many more victories to look forward to. It's a good day to be part of the Gator Nation!
